  1. For those interested in off-site weigh-in documents for USA Card holders, please

contact tourney director, Cal Warner @ cwarner1@sbcglobal.net for info and forms.

On-site weigh-in from 6-9pm on Saturday evening, March 7th only! No Sunday morning

    weigh-in!

We will have the pairing pools done on Saturday evening so that wrestling will begin at 10:00am

sharp on Sunday.  Last year we had 254 wrestlers, each got 3 matches.  All the pools were done wrestling

and on their way home  between 2-4pm.

We will have a full concession stand, Jim's Wrestling Supply, and an organized format.

Every wrestler will recieve a medal.

BEGINNERS ONLY PLEASE!  Two years or less of wrestling experience before this year.  You are eligible

if this is your third USA card.

We will have USA cards available for sale on Saturday evening only.  No off-site weigh-in without a valid

    USA Wrestling Card.

Looking forward to another great day.

  2. Wes and Colin:

Man I hate to hear that, for Colin.

Great kid, great competitor, great wrestler.

I could see the disappointment in his face on Saturday.  I can't imagine what he is going through having this happen two years in a row.

There is no doubt in my mind that he will recover from this injury and will be just as successful in life as he has been through wrestling.

Best of luck to him at Ball State!  Sure wish he were still wrestling this Saturday!

    Regards,

formerwrestler and the Tipton wrestling community.

  3. I bet all the ice bags at New Castle will be watching out for Tony though.

He obliterated that poor defenseless ice bag on Saturday.

That was the funniest thing I saw all day.  Gold man, pure gold.  ;D

  4. I didn't think they were so much flexing.  I think they were both just excited to win and let out a loud "Whoop" after winning.

    It's an emotional sport.

    Congrats to both.

  5. No decision yet on college.  However he has applied to and been accepted at the following schools listed alphabetically:

    Ball State (no wrestling though)

    Manchester

    North Central

    Trine

    Univ. of Wisconsin-LaCrosse

    Wabash

Still waiting to hear back from a couple of others.

  6. OK.  This will be an interesting topic for discussion....

What kids still wrestling are related to wrestlers at other schools.

Nathan Whitlow of Southmont 145lbs. is cousin to Colin Warner 215lbs. of Tipton.  Nathan is also a cousin to 189lb.  Southmont teammate, Nick Hodges.  Warner and Hodges, however are not related.

    Any others?

  7. Garity did not wrestle.  Heights bumped up some of the others.

Since Zach's name was listed in the program at 189, the announcer assumed he was wrestling, and that is probably how it was reported.  The coaches can make some changes to their lineup.

Zach's parents said he is gonna try to go on Saturday if he can get full range of motion back.  Will be keeping my fingers crossed for him.  He just never has any luck around tourney time.

  8. Coach clev has part of the reasoning correct.

Additionally, Our 189lbr, Dylan Ford is 32-7 and weighs @ 185-189lbs.  Ford has been Warner's drill partner for the last three years and is also very solid.  Warner and Ford both have wrestled 189/215 the last two years, but Warner has much more experience and performs a little better @ 215lbs. than Ford.

Warner is also hoping to wrestle in college and sees himself as a 197lbr.  Wrestling bigger, stronger guys will help with this transition.

He wrestles each day with Ford and our heavyweight, so the weight issue is really not that big of a deal.

We're looking forward to the regional this weekend, and watching all four Blue Devils compete.

  9. Warner is having a good year.  37-3 thus far.

He and Ford were both wrestling 189/215 this year.  Ford is 35-7.  It's great having them both in the room along with

Moats @ 171lbs. with a 39-1 record.  These three are great practice partners.

We're looking forward to Pendleton Heights this Saturday.

  10. Also found out last evening that Levi Rutledge will be unable to compete because of a knee injury suffered on Tuesday in practice.  He had just returned to the wrestling room recently after suffering a back strain in late December.

The back appeared to be OK, but he tore a ligament in his knee on Tuesday evening and could not get in to see the Dr. until Thursday afternoon.

What a shame for him.  Great kid, great wreslter, great competitor.  Placed 7th at Conseco last year.

  11. For Lovitt, I hope he does wrestle. His Indiana record is 4-0. If his weigh-ins carry over from Florida, so should his record, right? Which would make his record ? which could change the minds of the coaches at the seeding meeting. Potentially, this weight class could and in my opinion should be redrawn. If Lovitt is the best he'll win the weight class anyway. But why should the other wrestlers suffer on a bad draw.

I agree that the semi finals upper bracket should be the finals.

His Florida record really does not help in critera a.) Head to Head, b.) common opponents, and c.) He was not a returning champ at 130lbs. last year.  The tournament officials were trying to follow the rules, and be fair to all the wrestlers.  Unfortunately, this was a unique case.  Let's let the kids decide it on the mat. Top 4 will advance.  I would think that the top 4 will rise to the top in this bracket.  Should be a fun bracket to watch on Saturday.

  12. I don't believe that is right.

We wrestled them last week, and the coach said he had a letter from Bobby Cox stating that Lovitt was allowed to wrestle in Indiana.  Apparently, his weigh-ins from Florida counted.  The coach seemed pretty confident that they had all the ducks in a row to allow him to compete.  I believe he was 11-2 in Florida with his only losses to two state ranked kids.

    Old71...

Do you have new information that things have changed since last week?

    formerwrestler

  13. Not knowing the rules for seeding a sectional are equally boneheaded.

The Lovitt situation is very unique.  The tournament directors and all the coaches discussed this issue deeply.  It was determined that the best course of action was to follow the below rule.

    d. A contestant with the best overall record (winning percentage) who has wrestled at least 10 matches;

NOTE: A wrestler with less than ten matches may not be seeded ahead of a wrestler with at least ten matches and a winning record unless

he/she meets criteria in a, b or c. A wrestler with a losing record may not be seeded unless he/she meets criteria a, b or c unless there are

less than six (6) wrestlers in the bracket.

Lovitt had a 4-0 record in Indiana at the seeding meeting and had not a) wrestled any of the higher seeds, B) had no common opponents and c) was not a returning champ or runner-up in the same weight class.

    Tough situation for all involved.

  14. Sent an e-mail to Bobby Cox to avoid any confusion:

    Here is his response:

"...a wrestler may wrestle in the weight class they are entered or if you wish at the seed meeting, move them up one class.  They may never wrestle below their entered weight class and they may never wrestle more than two weight classes above their entered class."

Thought others might like to see this clarification too.
