  1. Monkey...

Does it "disgust" you because weather was bad, the Randolph County government "closed" the county, the school administrators told the coaches they could not travel to participate in their regional, or that Jay County and the IHSAA made a decision in favor of the 86% who made it to Jay County, not against the 14% who did not?

I still think is is a shame that the schools administrators (from Winchester, RS, and others) cared less for their wrestling athletes than they perhaps would  other sport athletes (read basketball) and would not allow them to travel and participate in the regional tournament for which they trained and qualified.

To continue to beat this horse is ridiculous.  There is no way now that everyone can be satisfied with this situation!  Let's just make the best of it and move on.  Congrats to all who will participate in the Ft. Wayne Semi-State this weekend.

    Sheesh!

Honestly, I do not even know. I have no connection to Rand. Co. wrestling, only having wrestled there in h.s. many a moon ago.

Here's how I see it and sorry in advance to the boys who won advancement tickets last week:

No one really qualified for SS at Jay Co. Saying that they did is like giving the top ranked wrestler from each wt class in Jan. the gold medal State Championship.

The coaches should have protested Sat. and banned together and not wrestled their boys unless all who rightfully qualified from Sect. had the legitimate opportunity to be there and wrestle. What happened was not a few being over weight or being disqualified because of training rules. It still disgusts me. What other possibilities were presented, considered? Did we just go with the first one?

It reminds me of No Child Left Behind. Why penalize the disadvantaged?

  2. Have one from this year....We host our own tourney each year.  My 103 lbr. is usually in the 80-90lb range and has not had many matches where he outweighs his opponent.

He proceeds to wrestle the #1 seed in our tourney and gets taken down in less than 10 seconds, faster than I could even get to the coaches chairs.  As I am just getting to the mat, he is already walking off the mat, headgear in hand looking very down.  I asked him "What happened?"  He looks up at me and says:  "That kid was HUGE!!"  Hard to imagine a 103lbr. being HUGE, but I guess to him he was!

I gotta give my kid credit though, he wrestled every match he could and never asked to forfeit.  I keep telling him to EAT all he wants.

  3. Just a reminder that The Tipton Wrestling Club will be hosting our 7th annual Beginners Folkstyle Open on Sunday, March 7, 2010.  (This is the same weekend as Folkstyle State and is listed in the Amateur Wrestling News publication. )

The entire tourney will be offsite weigh-in only this year.  NO ON SITE WEIGH IN! Please e-mail requests for documents to: cwarner1@sbcglobal.net by Tuesday, March 2,  2010.  Forms are due no later that Wednesday, March 3, 2010 @ 7pm.  $10/wrestler, pool bracketing so wrestlers compete on the same mat all day.  Fans $3 per person or $10 per family $2 cooler charge.

Concession Stand with hot food all day.  Doors open @ 9am, wrestling starts @ 10am sharp and should be all done by @ 4pm or earlier based on past years experience.  Excellent atmosphere for young wrestlers.  Each wrestler receives a medal based on pool placing.  Jim's Wrestling Supply will be on hand for any equipment needs.

    Please e-mail with any questions.

    Thanks,

    Cal Warner

  4. My question is: are the 9th graders there still allowed to compete in high school sports?

Thank goodness they are.  We have 12 of them at THS and all have wrestled some varsity this season.  We never have less than 8 in our lineup on any given match and have had as many as 10 suiting up for varsity.  Obviously, we don't have a JV or freshman team.  Hope we get 10-12 more again next year.

  5. Do you know any good tailgating spots, im gonna go tailgating, but want to no a good spot to go

Wrestler...West of the Lucas oil there are several spots to tailgate that are close to the action, yet reasonably priced.  If you are planning on having a vehicle there plan on getting to the area @ 6 hrs. in advance of the game and you should be able to get a good spot relatively close to the stadium.  Diamond Chain allows people to park only (no tailgating) in their lot for @ $20 and there are several spots South of the Hurst Bean lot for the $25-30 range.  The East lots are all more expensive, and i think you have to walk farther.

    Hope this is helpful

P.S. fearless...you cracking on my bus??

  6. Does anyone know when the wrestlers will be getting the 2lb growth allowance for this season?

There are several holiday tourneys and I know the wrestlers would appreciate knowing if the growth allowance is in effect before them.

The IHSAA Winer Bulletin indicated "on or after Jan. 1, 2010"

    Anyone know for sure?

    Thanks,

  7. Dale was impressive all day.  Beat Vlahos in OT in round #1.  Very tall and deceptively strong young man.  Tough to score on.  He does not get in bad positions on the mat.

He scored a TD in the first period, then rode Moats in 2nd, and earned an escape and TD in 3rd off of Moats aggressiveness.  His little brother was impressive as well.

My hat is off to the two wrestlers who wrestled exhibition matches vs. West Lafayette.  I believe they were in the @ 160lb range, one from Harrison, the other from McCutcheon.  You two were not only a credit to your school, but to the whole sport of wrestling.  Well done!

  8. The Tipton Wrestling Club would like to congratulate all the recipients of the ISWA Founders Scholarships and the Rollie Hoover Memorial Scholarship for the 2009 year.

TWC member, Levi Rutledge joins Mathew Adams of Center Grove, Camden Eppert of Anderson Highland, Kyle Mosier of Yorktown, and Ivan Stetter of Southridge High School as ISWA Founder's Scholarship recipients.

Additionally TWC member, Colin Warner was awarded the Rollie Hoover Memorial Scholarship by the ISWA.

Both Levi and Colin spent many years competing all over Indiana and the US as representatives of the Tipton Wrestling Club;  we are proud of their accomplishments and are thankful to the ISWA for their continual support of Indiana's wrestlers.

  9. Just wanted to thank all the volunteers and wrestling families at the Tipton Beginners tourney on Sunday.

Had an outstanding day of wrestling with over 300 wrestlers on Sunday.  Wrestling started at

10:10am and everyone was done by 4:20pm, with some starting to be released @ 3:00pm.

The Student officials did an outstanding job as did the table workers and concession people.

    Thanks for attending.

  10. Both Tipton wrestlers are All Hoosier Conference football players, Moats at OLB/RB, Warner DE/C.

Warner also earned Honerable Mention All-State in FB and was named All-Conference in baseball

    as a catcher last year.

Wrestling has had a HUGE impact on their other sports.
