  1.

What freshmen are going to make a name for themselves next season?

IMO each of these freshman will have a significant impact next season:

    Tylor Triana 106

    Zack Fattore 132

    Marc "Trey" Buehler 145

    Ian Dembowski 106-113

    Alex Hirschfield 138

    Alex Bautista 106

    Cody Crary 113-120

    Diego Lemley 126-132

    Lucas Davison 145-152

  2. Wow, I am very excited to see this matchup.

This might be a homer pick, but I gotta give it to Tsirtsis in a close one.  I just think the physical maturity level of a 20 year old will be too much to handle for a 17-year-old.

I'd call it the smart pick.

  3. He was also pinned by Sam Brancale, who failed to qualify for NCAA's, and Gilman himself was a paying customer in OKC.  Stevan is great, but let's allow him to make his own name before we declare him NCAA Champion is all I'm saying..

Also, by all accounts, Freestyle is Stevan's best and favorite style (MCKAJC even made a post this preseason questioning whether Stevan would even wrestle the HS season).  The 5-0, 5-0 loss to Gilman and the loss by fall to Peters in Stevan's best style don't translate all that well to the college game, which is wrestled in a style that RWA insiders like MCKAJC allude Stevan is less interested in.

I agree. I don't want to put the cart before the horse either. Time is on his side right now. Gilman did watch due to his RS this year. I think you could see in both of the posted matches with Gilman and Peters strength and maturity seemed to be a big factor. I think Gilman is a major player next year at 125 or 133.

  4. Have a hard time believing Micic is taking down Jesse Delgado. Didn't Iowa backup Thomas Gilman beat him 5-0, 5-0 and Northern Iowa's Dylan Peters pinned him. Those guys are tough, but a far cry from Jesse Delgado, Nahshon Garrett, Nico Megaludis, etc.

I'm really not trying to convince anyone of anything, just sharing some first hand info. Believe what you want. But, exactly how far a cry is Gilman from Delgado? Gilman did win the midlands this year and in the process beat Delgado in the semis. So...

It's going to be up to Stevan and his peeps in regards to him taking a RS this year. Im sure the NW coaching staff will abide by what ever he decides just as they did JT. I get the impression talking with them that most of the people around Stevan would like to see him take the RS, but he seems to be leaning the other way. That's just my impression, I've not heard anything for sure. Should be interesting though.

  5. I think one of the things that made Stevan so attractive to the D1 programs in addition to his top flight talent is the fact that he is possibly a four year 125#. He's 130# occasionally now. We were just having the red shirt conversation last night and it looks like he may take one this coming year. It was offered in his deal, and he would clearly benefit from the extra year. Most of the coaches believe he is technically ahead of any IN wrestlers when they came out of HS and that his overall game is D1 ready now. But IMO he could get a little more on his frame to help him stand up to the big ten schedule. Last April-May in his trip to Champaign he was just a bit behind Delgado on his feet he did take him down though and was 50-50 with Zain Richards so in his mind I think he wants to compete now.

  6. We want all the freestyle participants we can get. But we are only going to allow 2 from each weight to go to Fargo. And if you are one of the top 2, pony up the $700+ if you want to make the trip. So, what's most important in that scenario? I'll give ya three guesses. But I'll bet you only need one.

  7. Just goes to show how good Lee is because Micic is on another planet.

Really? How good Lee is? Better be careful. Some actually believe to much praise on this board will make fans not like your guy. If that's all it takes to sway someone's opinion they didn't like them in the first place for whatever reason. jealousy or animosity possibly based on their own achievements that don't quite equal. Dominating a great wrestler in a big match, but it won't be good enough, he should have beaten him by more or pinned.  ::)

Lee is a great wrestler and will be fun to watch is career unfold. But you right based on Micic's domination in that match he is on another planet.

  8. And from looking at the bracket at 113, Konrath dominated everybody they put in front of him. TF 21-4, TF 25-10, TF 24-9, TF 22-7, Major 16-2 in the Finals!!! I'm sure that clinic was fun to watch!

It really was fun to watch. I think he weighed in under 112. One of the smallest in the group. On another note. I have to say too Joe Lee is gonna be my pick next year to win it at what ever weight he goes. Both the Lee boys are just as humble as they can be before and after they do their thing. It's a real pleasure to see NO show boating or non-sense from such talented kids. It's makes it even more of a pleasure to watch.

  9. i thought that was kinda stupid but ive seen the ncaa do some crazy things with tournament seeds before

Agreed. But this was the topper. In the qualifying event, beat 1 and 2 seeds in solid fashion. And one of those two get a better seed? What ever......

  10. They just let fans and parents in there to eat?  Was this their payment for the Stevan Micic Public Relations work you did this year?

Awesome you just won me $10(lunch) ;D  I bet that you, and you only, couldn't resist responding with this type of "hospitality police" comment. And right in the time frame too, 15 mins to spare. Right on.. Well minus the Micic dig. So predictable. Thanks Eric. Lunch on you tomorrow.. LOL

BTW - NP told me to take Cody in and get him a bite at County. Kid's hungry 24/7. We'll clear it with you next time.

  11. I was going to give extra points for the use of the word "except," except you misspelled it.  It's actually except.  Excellent effort though.

So it looks like three found my attempt at interjecting at bit of levity into this uptight thread. But it didn't come from where I had hoped it would come from. Oh well, I tried..

  12. Then why did their coaches vote to add another class recently?

Until last year we spent more time wrestling in IL than in IN. And in 8 years of wrestling in IL I've never heard anyone say they favored the class system for the individual state tournament. And Scholar I also heard the same from 3 of the NCAA AA that are now coaching that you've mentioned in your post. So..
