I notice you only picked one champion from Merrillville, Garza at 106. Just curious as to how you arrived at that choice. I know anything is possible, but did you know Garza got third place at semi state and Sinkovics beat him by tech fall?  It wasn't a situation where Garza got stuck by a lucky move or something, after dominating the match.  Not to mention he would also have to get by Red, who is a nationally ranked wrestler, and Lee, who placed third last year.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not belittling your opinion, just curious as to your thought process on this one.

  2. Just watched this finals match, after having previously watching Kral's semi finals match.  I'm not a rules expert or anything but if what Kral did in these two matches is not stalling, there needs to be a rule change.  He did little more than push his opponet backwards with almost no attempt at actually scoring.

  3. Its not desiring it, its telling a fact.  Talk to any AD and they will tell you the team portion is done.  People were calling this many years ago because the team series is for about 15 teams in the state at most and now it is dead because people didn't want to expand and were only worried about getting our true champion.  Good bye team state it was fun while it lasted.

You said you have better things to do today than go to state today, like make your kids better for next year.  Tell me,  how exactly are you making your kids better for next year by posting on this message board all day?

  4. By sending your JV kids to team regional/semi-state and by threatening to not show up, that is making a mockery of the team series.  That simply tells the IHSAA that the wrestling coaches do not think the team series is important.

I will not be there tomorrow.  I have better things to do like make my kids better for next year.  My wrestlers are more important that watching eight teams I have no connection to.

Did your wrestler win Friday night?  I'm assuming if he didn't, that you didn't sit on your butts all day Saturday watching individual State when you could have been doing something a little more productive.

  5. I could be wrong but wasn't there someone who won state his junior year, signed to play football at a D-1 school and they didn't want him to wrestle his senior year?

I think you are thinking of Bemenderfer from Penn.  He placed third his junior year then didn't wrestle his senior year because he had a football scholarship to Northwestern.  The only one I can think of that fits this criteria is Galka from Hobart.  He won state as a freshman then quit wrestling for a year, then came back to wrestle again his junior or senior year.  I don't remember if he ever won state again, but I think he did place high his senior year.

  6. Are you serious? Wow! You shouldnt be saying something like that! Im sure Hassman had a game plan for him an Knura followed it to the exact point! If anybody remembers Lentz killed Knura at the Calumet 10-2! And then Knura gets a takedown with seconds left and gets a crappy locking hands call! Dont take anything away from Knura at all a soph against a Senior who has already been there and done it I think the match should have gone to OT and let them wrestle ref please dont take away a kids chance of being in the state finals! That ref gets a booooo from me!

Yes I am serious.  What I said is an opinion, and you can't tell me I can't have an opinion on a message board, which is the whole point of this type of forum, to express your opinions.  I said a few things:  1. "I don't know if it was a bad call..."  I couldn't see if it was a legitimate call from where I was.  I tried to go back and watch the replay on broadcastsport.net, and it's not available.  I didn't even dispute if it was a bad call or not, and for the sake of argument, I'll agree with you and say it was.

    2.  I said I don't feel sorry for a wrestler who does nothing offensively for an entire match, and doesn't get a call to go his way at the buzzer.  That's my opinion, I am free to have it.  I prefer aggressive wrestling, and quite frankly didn't see much of it in this match.  Please point me to a video replay to this match and show me where I am wrong, and that I missed numerous offensive moves by Knura.  As I recall, in the last period, There where times that Lenzt stood in the center of the mat, and waited for Knura to even come to him.  I recall thinking that Knura was making absolutely no effort to push the action, so much so that Lentz could stand there and not even risk a stalling call.  I also think Lentz didn't wrestle very aggressively in the match, he only did enough to win, and it almost cost him the match.  Had the call went against Lentz, I would not have felt sorry for him either, I thought had he wrestled more agressively, that he would have had a big lead and wouldn't have to worry about a ref's call.  Once again, this is my opinion.  You stated "Hasseman had a game plan for him and Knura followed it..."  I don't know if this is true, but if  the gameplan was to stall until time is almost out and take a last second shot,  then this does not change my position any.  This might even be a good strategy.  But once again, if that is your strategy, then I don't feel sorry for you if you use it and a call doesn't go your way.

Finally, you state "don't take anything away from Knura..."  Aren't your comments taking something away from Lentz?  Isn't that  what anyone who questions a refs call does, take something away from the winner? So is it ok for you to dimininish Lentz's victory?

  7. I'm not sure if it was a bad call or not, I couldn't see from where I was at.  But I've always felt that if you put yourself in a position to let the ref decide the match, you have no one to blame but yourself.  Knura did almost nothing offensively this whole match, then with 5 seconds left he decides to take a shot off the whistle.  Had he had any offense at all during this match, I might feel sorry for him.

  8. I dont think you can call the brady win an upset they had 2 very close matches this year and brady just had porres number tonight hopefully it was a preview to next weaks final

After watching this match, I have no doubt Brady has the ability to beat Porras again.  And I'm sure Brady's family and coaches thought he had the capability to win the match, but I do not understand how this is not an upset.  Porras is a defending champ, runner-up twice, has placed 4th and 8th in the nation at  Fargo, and has a scholarship to wrestle at Purdue.  Admittedly, I don't know much about Brady, (other  than  he has had  two close matches with Porras). Please show me his credentials that would  convince me that  this is  not an upset.  By the way the definition of upset is "the defeat of a person or team that is considered more formidable".  Going in to that match, the consensus had to be that Porras was more formidable than Brady.
  9. By my count, only three finalist have won State before:Wright, Sandefur, and McMurray.  Three former champs, Raley, Quiroga, and Harper come up short in their quest to return as champs.  I can't recall a year in which as many as three former champs were knocked out, does anyone else remember such a year?  And one finalist, Ryan Stahl has a chance to follow in his brother's footsteps as a State champ.  Have brother's ever won in consecutive years?

  10. Mish. is like A-Rod; Win at all costs, even if you have to bring kids in from other schools!

Mishawaka just dismissed a top-ranked wrestler from the team on the eve of Regionals, knowing full well that the dismissal may cost them the State Championship.  That doesn't sound like a program that wants to win at all costs.
