  1. CC wrestled Saturday @ New Pal, Monday @ Carroll, Wednesday against Dekalb, and then @ Goshen Saturday.  We couldn't fit the EN dual in anywhere last week.  We again wrestle this week Wednesday @ Garrett, then EN comes here on Thursday.  I wanted either Tues/Thurs so we could practice before hand rather than the Monday like we had the NHC Triple Dual on.  See everyone tonight!

    A "nice" coach

  2. Great job East Noble, and their coaching staff, wrestlers and family! This goes to show how great of a conference the Northeast Hoosier Conference (sad to see it break up) really is.  We (Columbia City) had a football player go down with a major head injury week 1 of football and almost all of the NHC schools stepped up and donated or did something for that player and his family.  Homestead and Carroll were major contributors to this.    I know that Carroll, Columbia City, and New Haven had planned on donating as well during the NHC triple dual that was cancelled last weekend, and that will still happen once we have that meet on Jan 6.

The football player mentioned above showed up to the Columbia City Elementary duals this past weekend to meet a young Yorktown wrestler that he had been in contact with during his stay in the hospital.  Good to see him giving back to fellow athletes as well.

  4. We have had a lot of calls about registration. You are allowed to walk in and register on site. Weigh ins are tonight from 6:30-7:30 pm and Sat and Sun from 7-8 am. We will be wrestling freestyle and greco on Saturday, folkstyle on Sunday. $30 to wrestle all 3 styles.

  5. Again, it can't be stressed enough how UNUSUAL of a situation Bellmont is in--for themselves and for any team really.

First, I've run the numbers for the 3 years prior to now and they would have earned enough points with ease each year for the duals event.  That will be the norm going forward for them as they return to their normal performance level.

Second, again, they were below their normal level of performance last year (only 6 would have been at semi-state with the old 3-go-from-regional system...has that happened any time in the last 20 years?) AND they graduated 10 starters, which almost never happens across the state.

This is a very, very strange situation for them.  Let this season play out so we can see that in fact the 8 invited teams are very good and so we can see in February the Bellmont of old prove it belongs in next year's event.

    Great post

  6. You mentioned they have been beaten by schools already.  Yes they have, that happens every single year.  I stated that, I know they get beat every single year by Yorktown (I use them because they are #1 and recently beat them) in a early season dual.  Now go back and look how many times Bellmont has beaten Yorktown when it counts.  All but 1 time!  Am I saying the teams that were invited shoudln't be invited?? Absolutely not.  But its hard to believe Bellmont, a team notorius for beating teams 2nd times around when it counts, is not there.  If I were Yorktown, I would want to beat them in the tourney for the Championship.  Shoot, I don't remember the last time Bellmont has beaten them during the regular season.  But I only remember once of yorktown beating Bellmont when it counted.  That is why it is hard to not put Bellmont in the state tourney!  Again I have nothing against Yorktown, they are #1, but I would have loved to see those two teams face off again....like it has happened for the past how many years at Team Regionals.  No individual tourney will ever show you how good Bellmont actually is in a team tournament.  If you go off of last years results, Bellmont may not ever make it into this State tournament.  They do usually lose some quality Seniors.  You have to respect what they have done in the last 20 years of the Team State tourney against teams that are better than them.

  7. You guys can say whatever you want about the computers, but anyone that has ever had to wrestle Bellmont in the tournament series knows they are one of the best coached teams in Indiana.  They have missed a total of TWO state tournaments in its entire tournament history.  How many years now has Yorktown or some other great wrestling school beat Bellmont early in the year, and then lost to them in the tournament?

I appreciate the IHSWCA attempts at getting this done right.  However, I was dissappointed to see Bellmont not in the 3A tournament, then was furious when I found out they were not even selected for 2A.  Show them some kind of respect please.

I hope they find ways to correct this issue and make changes in the next year or two so that it doesn't become the BCS of Indiana Wrestling.  I think the computer is a great starting point thought!

Great teams have great JV wrestlers as well, not just a great Varsity team.  Tradition doesn't graduate.

  9. Just a reminder that the Columbia City Folkstyle tournament is February 12th.  Pre-registration may be done through Trackwrestling.com.  However, walk-ins will be accepted the morning of the tournament, for an extra fee.  Weigh ins are that morning from 7:00 - 8:00 am.  This event will be held at Indian Springs Middle School.

  10. What better way to prepare for the real state series than to prepare to win a IHSWCA Team Title, then wrestle conference, then sectional.  Why spread the season out and prepare for team state, then relax then prepare for state series?  Build everything up to the seasons end when you want to be hitting your stride.

  11. I only have a few questions about it.  Is there any way we could move it later than the Dec dates?  I don't think all teams have meshed and came together yet.  Also is there any better way to find the teams participating?  Using the rankings on here would not be the best route but I am not sure of how else to do it other than what system we are getting rid of.  I know  from 2004-2006 Columbia City was beat in the Team State semi finals, and never were we a top 10 team.  I think the first year we went we were 13th, and hovered right around there for the next 2-3 years, even though we continued to advance to the semi finals at Team State.

I think trying to get the tourney as late into the season as possible would be the best thing to do.  I know there are some conference tourneys  that run 2 weeks before sectional. If there was a way to get all of them to move to the week before sectional, then we could have this Team State 2 weeks before sectional.  But we have to find a better way of deciding participants than just using the rankings.
