  1. Both of them are fairly well known to us. Zahid had mixed results, he defeated Ali Reza Karimi pretty easilly at the world cup, but got teched by the young Japanese in the recent tournament, both at 86k. Mersteller beat Savadkouhi at a ranking tournament which was a bit of a surprise to me
  2. I hope Ahora can grow fast enough to be the 57 kg rep for the seniors soon
  3. Meanwhile in the US, the team selection is complete Olympic champs Taylor, Snyder, Steveson win, Marsteller tops Burroughs, in men’s freestyle at Final X (teamusa.org) The big news is that Stevenson is back and will wrestle, Burroughs lost, cox was injured and did not wrestle Snyder. The US team is a formidable team.
  4. And the silver is due to an injury forfeit. So far, the boys are undefeated.
  5. That may very well be true. But it's a good thing for wrestling. The medal winners in the next Olympics will not need to have an Asterix next to their medal report. We do not want a repeat of the 1980 or 1984 olympic story. Far more importantly, I hope the invasion stops and peace wins
  6. Looks like Russians and Belarusian wrestlers will be allowed to wrestle soon This will have major impact on all major FS weights other than 86 and super heavyweight in the Olympics based i the little I know about GR, this will probably impact every weight class https://uww.org/article/uww-decision-neutral-athlete-inclusion
  7. I want to take a moment to congratulate our good friend @LJB for his son’s amazing success in the tallin open last weekend… first American to win that tourney at U20 Greco. This video shows his match against 2022 U17 world silver medalist
  8. Thanks for sharing. Very unimpressive performance. Even if he had won the match, it would be a terrible performance for him. Not impressed with his lack of offense at the beginning, and his inability to finish his moves. He seemed to be a lot slower that he usually is, and he seemed very hesitant to attack.
  9. I did not see the matches. If any of you have links to the matches please share them. Yazdani had four matches, he teched three opponents, and lost one. I agree he has world class potential, but he I think he lacks the mental discipline. Let's hope with more experience he can improve. He will not be a factor in the 24 olympics anyway, so perhap in time for the 28 olympics
  10. AM Yazdani fails to win gold in Bulgaria شکست یزدانی در تورنمنت بلغارستان/ ۳ کشتی گیر ایران فینالیست شدند (khabarvarzeshi.com)
  11. I just can't see him overtaking Azarpira who is also young
  12. He was on vacation in the US. He is back now.
  13. I finally had a chance to watch the Azarpira vs Snyder match. Here is my take He showed excellent defense against one of the best in the world. Azarpira showed that his defense is very effective. Considering how Snyder overpowered Ghassempour, I was pleased with that. Azarpira was too timid with his offense. Did not try to attack until the last 30 seconds when he was down 3-0. I hope next time he will have the confidence to attack more, and attack earlier. Overall, I remain very optimistic about Azarpira's potential. He is only 23, and we are 1 year and half away from Paris Olympics. He will likely improve significantly between now and then, both physically and mentally
  14. I only saw Emami's match in the semifinal against the Turk, and I am sorry to say that I was not impressed at all. He scored two point via push outs, got one point for warning, and gave up a take down. Did not see any good wrestling from him.
  15. @Uwwdocprobably knows more about this, but there are reports that Pejman has been missing for a days due to personal reasons. There are also unsubstantiated rumors that he and his family are in the US. Yet another distraction before a big tournament
  16. I believe that his walk around weight is around 93-94, the problem is that his opponents walk around weight is 100-105 kg . I just think he is too small for 97, and will not be able to compensate with his superior wrestling skills
  17. wow, I hope they don't deprive him of the opportunity to try at 86 I don't know if he can qualify for 97, there are just too many bigger contenders, I think he might struggle against Mohammadian, Goleij and Azarpara. If Azarpara improves the way I hope he will, given his age and experience, he is my pick for 97
  18. I think that is a bit optimistic, given that DT did not tech Zahid, but I will be very happy if I am proven wrong
  19. Zahid did very well against Karimi, Zahid also had close matches against DT, so he is legit. I think Hassan will win, but it will not be easy
  20. If he has an injury, then I cannot imagine they would not give him a chance to wrestle at Takhti Cup I am not sure Bazri losing at 97 to anyone is a big Suprise. He is an 86 Kg wrestler who is trying the next olympic weight after reallizing he does not have a shot at 86
  21. We are very privileged to have someone like @wrestfan with his vast wrestling knowledge, and also @uwwdoc with his inside information.
  22. Many thanks for clarifying, it makes sense. Your last point is very interesting. Ghassempour has a very difficult choice: Try to get passed Hassan, and if he does, he will be a top two contender with a shot at gold Try to get passed Mohammadian, Goliej, and Azarpira, and if he does, he might have a shot at bronze. If by then Sadulaev shows up, bronze will be his best-case scenario. I realize both are very hard tasks, but I think his overall odds at 86 are better. It sucks that such a talented athlete will most likely not wrestle in the Olympics
  23. Looks like Iran's A team, minus the gold medal winners. Interesting that they are sending Azarpira. That may be message of what they think about their best bet for 97 at the olympics
  24. Savadkoui credits Reza Yazdani for his success پای یزدانی به باخت جردن باروز در کشتی باز شد/ متوجه شدیم که کجای کار هستیم (khabarvarzeshi.com)
