  1. I knew his shoulder injury had been a nagging pain every now and then all season, but he still managed to wrestle very well despite this setback.  His ribs seemed to be holding up well and I was told the night before that he was feeling great.  It was when he woke up on Saturday that his ribs began aching again and the knee pains first arrived.  By then I had obviously already made my picks.  So his pain was mostly unknown until competition day.  Last I heard he felt great so I assumed he'd be ready to go come Saturday...and I was wrong

Was going through some older posts and found this jewel.

  2. Zach Henderson - Evansville Mater Dei

Ranked top 5 his senior year, beat Trevor Moody (who got 3rd, and gave McKinley all he wanted at state)

Agree, I for got to mention him earlier. I think Moody finished 6th though. Brian Kuhn and Alex Johns finished 3rd. Who beat Henderson in the ticket round?

  3. Noah Schweizer of MD. Stuck behind Johnson, Lee and Pierre his entire career. All three went to state with 2 (Pierre might have?) placing.  He beat Davis at Freshman JV Tournament, Lovejoy and Mantel at ISWA Tournaments. Great wrestler. Would have placed IMO had he attended any other schools where he could crack varsity.  Davis, Mantel and Lovejoy all State placers in their careers.

  4. Careful as to what you say. Red MAY just mop the mat with Lee as Micic did. You can't discount that he's an undefeated 2X state Champ.

Did you happen to see Lee dismantle a fantastic wrestler named Early for 3rd place? He pinned or TF pretty much the entire State of Indiana (except Micic)  plus beat the top wrestlers of Kentucky and Missouri as a freshman. Chad Red had several matches that exposed some things he lacks. He couldn't even put away Lahue who was wrestling with a torn meniscus. Red is a great wrestler. But seriously speaking until he leaves Indiana and accomplishes something on the National or International Level like Micic and Lee have done...let's just keep him in the talks about how well  he did against the 120 pound class.

  5. My wife suffurs from migraine and it is horrible. Can't image someone being physical or even being around lights and sounds. You have one tough kid and he will bounce back well. Good luck Hudkins

I'm sure its got nothing to do with you and Tyler? Lol  I am going to miss seeing your son. Our 2 boys battled it out once 7 years ago (Perry Meridian days!) and remained friends. I was great to see those 2 down on Bankers floor still talking after all these year. Tyler is a fantastic kid and I always enjoyed talking to him. Congrats to you and your wife...and Tyler for a great career and great year.

  6. That was the first time I watched him wrestle and I was impressed. He injury defaulted to 4th place but I never heard what happened. I know that he wrestled Nick Lee several times this year and his Friday night draw was Micic. From the frying pan to the fire with that draw.

Great wrestler and kid. Mt. Vernon has 3 more years with him and Konrath to cause headaches for Castle Regionals coaches.

  7.

I definitely didn't see this coming at all! From what I've seen previously I really thought it should have worked out this way.  132 has been crazy all year long though, and you are absolutely correct.  A terrific day of wrestling. I look forward to much of the same next weekend.  Tough to see some great guys' careers come to an end one week short of the State Finals.

What did you see? Crazy? Jourdan gets beat once by Todrank and that shook things up? The very next week he not only gets pinned but doesn't even score on Jourdan. Jourdan beats Davis in close matches so you think one bad match for Jourdan who beats Davis = Orndorff Champion.  I hear all the "132 is crazy" and yet the top kids prevailed to state. Todrank lost to ward, Jourdan, Broukal and now Anderson. Nothing crazy or shameful about that. They are all solid wrestlers and Todrank has an excellent coaching staff to take him to the next level...next year.

  8. i couldnt imagine Jordan taunting opposing coaches. of course he is excited and celebratory but Partee isnt going to be disrespectful.

Partee had just won a very competitive match against a great wrestler. I saw his celebration and found none of it offensive or disrespectful against Castle (I am baffled at this accusation) or anyone in the building for that matter. The kids excited and showed emotion...what would you prefer him to be like C-3PO?  I didn't see the headgear thrown but it seems as though it was handled by the coaches. For the amount of emotion, energy and testosterone in the building I can safely say one throw headgear and a Mike Tyson reenactment (to a finger) was pretty darn good. The coaches were  absolutely the best in the state with their behavior but that could also be because the officiating was top notch as well. It was the best Semi State I have seen in 10 years.

  9. I'm excited to see lee wrestle but I would be surprised if he beats micic. If he does, he's likely the best freshman to come threw indiana and I'm sorry but if he does win, I doubt anyone even touches him the next 3 years, even if someone like red ends up in his weight.

Red is a great wrestler in his own respect. State Champions are studs but Red honestly doesn't compare to either of these wrestlers. I doubt he will handle Hudkins after watching him wrestle Lahue. I think Lahue will rebound from that match and wrestle better at State so Red will have all he wants from both of those two.
