  1. It is up to us, as coaches to make sure these young men act as just that, young men.  I see the way some of the parents act and it is no coincidence that their children act the same way.  I am only speaking of the ones that display poor sportsmaniship, I realize there are many great parents out there that are teaching their children humility and respect in victory and defeat.  We can't control what they are taught at home, but we can control how they act when they are representing us as a school and a wrestling program.  So many coachces are after the almighty win and respect and sportsmaniship falls to the wayside.  In my opinion, you are doing a young man an injustice if you allow him to throw a fit just because he is a good wrestler and it will hurt your team if you suspend / discipline him.  We, as coaches have an obligation to these young men to teach them life lessons like respect, sportsmanship, humility, and commitment no matter how good or bad of a wrestler they are.  If you are not teaching this as a coach, I don't care what your record is, you are not doing your job!

  2. just to clarify.......you have it backwards.......gladiators were the "good guys"......lol

A gladiator (Latin: gladiator, "swordsman", from gladius, "sword") was an armed combatant who entertained audiences in the Roman Republic and Roman Empire in violent confrontations with other gladiators, wild animals, and condemned criminals. Gladiators are often considered the predecessor of modern day wrestlers.

thank you. I rarely get anyone to agree with me lol
  3. Are you saying the parents of your wrestlers want you on this board posting things they "want said"? Surprising...

I actually had a parent tell me to think of a nickname for their kid and talk about him when he gets into high school to help in recruiting. I have no idea if it would work but I will try I guess. This is all I'm trying to do. Is help develop and get these kids recruited with free college. So far so good. Some of the things I say are convos that happen at wrestling meets from multiple sources. I'm not mad at them at all.
  4. Wrestling is a Gladiator sport? Gladiators like attention? Actually, Gladiators were typically criminals, slaves and or outcasts of society who were killed before audiences for entertainment by way of sword, animal or even rocks. Gladiators were mostly despised by the society they were from. I haven't seen a sword at a single match this year. Technically wrestling is considered a grappling sport which has one or more contestants fighting, grappling and clinching for superior position. Wrestlers have always been held with high regard in the society they are from. They are considered superior athletes in strength, intelligence and respect.

Maybe that is why you are having such a hard time to get your team noticed? You didn't understand the concept of wrestling. Drop the brash act and humbly defeat your opponents.

AWESOME! More advice! I love it! Keep it comin lol my team has been noticed for a long time now. We have produced 11 state champions and will produce more in the future. My "gladiators" will be just fine. I have been lucky enough to be a part of this program, and want nothing but the best for it. Most coaches don't post on here, so that they don't get into arguments. I don't need to argue, I debate. ;) there is a difference. I also like to stir the pot a little. No harm intended what so ever. Nothing I post on here hasn't already been brought up once or twice. I just like to correct the convo when it went the wrong direction.  I'm not sending out a "brash" act, and I am humble, but I am also caring coach that treats his wrestlers like family, ask any parent of my wrestlers. I like to say things that my parents want said, but don't want the spotlight. I don't mind it at all. I care about only those in our circle. We love this website, and use posts from it to help fuel us as athletes. We don't need to get extra fuel for competition, our wrestlers desire to win should push them through the situation, but it helps when people trash talk. That's why NFL players use what is said in the papers. I do want to thank you for the lesson on gladiators. It sounds like you watched a lot of sparticus. It was a good series. I liked it too. ;)
  5. Looks like there will be a blackout in Bankers Life after all according to Coach Hartman in another thread.

this is true. Hobart does have someone down state, but we would have rather won to get there rather than injury default in. These are the rules and we are excited to be a part of the tourney this year. We hope to not disappoint our LOYAL fans.
  6. Just to play devils advocate

Brenden Black 9 Tylor Trina 8 Zach Fattore 8 all Hobart kids wrestle for RWA under Alex Tsirtsis Andre Hernadez Jose Escobedo Bill Hawkins and Vince Sessa. I would give RWA some credit 14 of the 20 lake county SQ attend. It isn't just one guy building champs.

this is why I think our kids will do well. Coaches like the RWA coaches are a big reason why some of the areas best wrestlers go there. Those guys produce champions! These coaches make our life as a high school coach much easier. The kids can walk into the room and compete for the starting position. I, for one, am very grateful at all the hard work these coaches put in. They also like that there is a buzz around these kids as well. Hawk and I have talked about this situation. I think it was at the portage youth tourney when we had this talk. Keep up the hard work RWA!!!!

  7. Funny you say this.. I saw former Hobart coach John Cantu ripping Cosgrove and Danny Bell a new one at the semi-state this weekend after Hobart's performance..  The words, "too busy on the internet, and not enough energy spent preparing the wrestlers" were used.

lol those words weren't used. Lol they were much more colorful than that. If you were so close to hear you would have heard what was said. But I guess that's just you talking about something you don't know about again. Lol you post a lot of trash talk directed this way. It would be nice to put a name next to your words, but I guess that's how you keep it safe. Just ramble on with out anyone knowing who the idiot was that posted. Safely done my friend. Safely done. Lol lol what a joke lol
  8. Coach,

If you want his name known all he has to do is win matches. You obviously need to be a basketball coach where your kids names are printed on the back so everyone "knows" them by reading them (much like that's how I learned your kids name, I read it). I understand that you want your kids to be known but when you are a fantastic wrestler and or coach everyone knows who you are when you walk in the gym. I couldn't pick your kid out of a lineup made of 3 people.  I don't really consider what you are doing to be worthy of the sport.  If you want to talk yourself up and make a mockery of Danny Bell then by all means do it...but leave the kids out of it.  They deserve better out of their mentor.

you must be an awesome person in life then. Maybe I should let you mentor me. Thanks for the advice but like I said before. You don't like it then don't read it. It ain't facebook, and you don't have to comment because there is an option too :) it's hard to take advice from someone who is afraid to put their name next to a comment instead of hiding behind a tag name. Worthy of the sport you say? This is a gladiator sport! Gladiators like attention. My wrestlers like that I talk about them. It fires them up to hear most of you talk about them the way you do. You my friend are just chalkboard material. Period. We will enjoy our time in Indy this weekend, and on Monday we will be starting next seasons wrestling practices. Trust me when I say this. I will be even louder come next year. I can't wait for some more of everyone's chalkboard material. Have a great day everyone.
  9. #4 seed Baumgartner.....  The freshman  from Bellmont will give Koontz a battle... This is one where I like the #4 seed...

Good call he is a tough kid too. He has been coming on strong as of late too. God pick!
  10. Coach Bell, I don't know you and I will probably smack myself for getting into this conversation. However, like a lot of people on this message board I have been around a long time and seen a lot of things . You are clearly a passionate guy who cares about his wrestlers. So here's my advice, feel free to take it or leave it:

Be humble. Black is probably the first state tournament wrestler you've coached, but act like you've been there before.  I've met Brenden at the NCC tourney a month ago and he seemed like a very nice young man.  Don't put a target on his back.  And most of all, remember that this is HIS state tournament experience - not yours....

Thanks for the advice. i appeciate it. This isnt my first kid in state though thanks. I ran advanced practices for a long time now, and have had many come through my wrestling room. This is my first year at Hobart though. You will here my loud voice every year from now on. if you want i can personal message you so you can proof read em first since your so involved with what my wrestlers and i do. He likes the thought of a target on his back. even though you think it is a bad idea, he loves it. Now people like you who have awful opinions know who he is when none of you did before this year. Welcome to the coach bell hour. I will bring more kids into the lime light next year as well. If you havent noticed, i put a buzz around brendan that wasnt there before. Now he has started getting noticed by people who never would have even cared. He is just fine. You on the other hand like to think that you know the situation, but just give bad advice instead. See you at State this weekend, and next year, and the year after that, and the year after that. You get the picture. I will be around for a while producing state qualifiers and hopefully champions. I just hope you are still around to talk smack about 14 year olds. See you then genius.
  11. That's a five over a 1 he has the skills to do it. Hopefully he puts some extra time in this week. I would bet the sinkovics/black score from semi state is close to the Sinkovics/hudkins score from Al Smith.

Sinko and black at semi state was 5-2. Hudkins sinko at the Al Smith was 17-1
  12. Forget +1, I'm going x 1000000000000000000000000000000

Nope i cant say that i have heard tonte, or harper say anything, but i hear you chime in a lot. I may be a loud mouth coach, but i can back it up. you may not like that i talk about my wrestlers, but that doesnt bother me one bit. I will continue to do this for the next 40 years im sure. If you dont like that i post stuff, dont read it. Im sure you will enjoy this website. its great. it has many posts that you can read outside of my qoutes. i have only posted less than 100 posts. All of which must have upset you, because you seem to have your panties in a bunch. I am glad that my wrestler has a chance to wrestle this friday and hopefully saturday. Its ok if you dont approve of it. We get it. Youre a whiner. its ok my daughter is too and i still love her. someone will love you eventually too. Have a great weekend lil fella.
