  1. Question for Zach-

In some of your SS rankings/preditions you have more than 4 wrestlers from a Regional.  At 106 you have 6 of the top 12 from one regional.

113 - 6 of the top 11 are from NM

    120 - 5 of the top 11 from PM

    132 - 5 of the top 10 from PM

5 of the top 15 from RI

    138 - 6 of the top 9 from PM

5 of the top 15 from NM

    145 - 5 of the top 13 from NM

and it goes on like this through most all weight classes.

Am I correct by saying that each Regional will only have 4 wrestlers at SS?

  2. If the team that fft'd the first match ended up winning the tournament over the team they fft'd to then this woul dhave had no impact on the team outcome because the team points the wrestler who was fft'd too earned would be no different than if they had wrestled and the guy he fft'd to pinned him.  If the team that fft'e would have loast by points then you could argue the coached decision "might have made a difference.  Ther would be no strategical advantage gained in this situation other than maybe the coach felt his kid would expend to much energy in the match and that would hamper him in the wrestlebacks.  If I had a wrestler who was very ill, or had an injury that might flair up I might choose to set him out of a match that I knew he would not win so as to give him an opportunity in matches he might win....that only makes sense and is most fair to the wrestler and the team.

After reading all of this, and not being biased towards either team, here is how I look at the situation. Could this have been the reason behind a team championship? Yes. Maybe you did give the other team the maximum points, however, how many points did you get credit for from your wrestler coming back and wrestling to take 3rd place? If you were to take those points away from your team, would you have won? Simply stated, the answer would be, no. So take the points away from your team that your team was awarded for his/her third place finish and then figure team points.  Would your team have won? No.

Now let's talk about individual wrestlers not a team championship since the IHSAA has made this an individual sport. If your wrestler were injured the entire season, even if he/she were not injured the entire season, you take a chance  in every match the possibility of injury.  This is wrestling, not checkers.  What are you teaching your wrestlers? To take the easiest route in life? To skip out on the hard matches only to go the easiest way? Wrestling is a tough sport, mentally and physically. Were you not worried your wrestler could get injured in the next match or the match after that?  There is a very good possibility these two wrestlers could face each other again at regionals.  Are you going to inj. def. that match to?

Your predictions are pretty good, however, I think some of these could go a different direction depending on seeding.  For example, at 126, if Loos is seeded 3rd and Boggs 2nd, they will most likely meet in semi's.  I don't look for Boggs to come out on top.  Boggs does have the win over Loos but the call that won it for him could go a different way this week and I look for Loos to come out with the win. I also believe that some of your predictions are biased, but I would also be biased if predicting. That's why I am not making predictions.  Could put a target on the ones I am sure will be a top the podium.  There will be some upsets to your predictions, in my opinion, especially from wrestlers that you have not seen wrestle yet.  I believe you will say, "what?  um, who's he and where'd he come from?" But that's just my opinion and I hope I am right.  I usually don't post, but thought I'd throw this out there.

In other news.......... What team takes the title?

Personally, I think it will come down to Greensburg and Franklin County.  Hopefully, they will meet tomorrow evening, weather depending, and that will give us more insight.  I have not seen Greensburg wrestle yet, but have studied who they have wrestled and know what each of their wrestlers have done.  Tomorrow evening should be a good meet.  I think Greensburg has some good wrestlers at weights that Franklin County has inexperience/young and I think Franklin County has good wrestlers where Greensburg is lacking.  Could come down to one match for the win.  Again, my opinion.  We will see, HOPEFULLY

  4. ***kid went to his back and then the kid bit him. LOL, geez***

This is the part of the post that I took exception to. Yes, the SD wrestler was disqualified for an apparent bite. There was one set of teeth marks on the FC wrestler's arm. I am not going to disparage either kid in this. The decision was made on the mat at the time. Coaches understand the circumstances that occurred postwith. Other than that, your comment did seem to come off as indicating the SD wrestler bit him out of frustration or something similar due to being beaten in the match. That is not the case. Please do not presume that to be the case, either. We as coaches are working to help young wrestlers (on either team) be much more than wrestlers, and such was the case in this instance.

This call could have gone either way.  If a wrestler is cross faced (across the mouth) and his mouth is open, the wrestler that is doing the cross face can push so hard that his arm ends up in the bottom guys mouth and could get teeth marks.  I was at the match, seen the whole thing.  Did SD's 138 bite FC?  Maybe.  Did FC shove his arm against SD's mouth as hard as he could while SD mouth was open and got teeth marks which doesn't mean SD bit him? Maybe.  I do know that the FC wrestler jumped up holding his arm.  However, I also have seen Reggie Miller fall down and have fouls called against his opponents without there being any foul at all.  (Sorry to bring up basketball on this but these calls go hand in hand). I have also seen a referee call locking hands when the hands touching don't belong to the same wrestler.  So let's just say this, "The next time these two meet, SD will not let FC in the position to cross face and if he does, he knows now to keep his mouth closed tightly.  And FC will know that the hard cross face will lose him a point for Unsportsmanlike"

  5. Just a little confused here.  What weight is Guhl from Cathedral going this year?  He is ranked 16th at 195, yet in the NCSS rankings is at 220? He wrestled the Spartan Classic at 195 and was beaten by Hooten from Batesville.  Hooten has already beaten Madison's Sandlin this season. Hooten was pinned by Rushville's Hittle earlier in the season and then pinned by Franklin County's Harnishfeger very early in the first period at the Spartan Classic.  Harnishfeger then pinned Hittle late in the third.

  6. Finally someone with sense. Neither wrestler  involved needs their stellar season ended in such a way. Both wrestlers gave it their all on the mat and unfortunately, we as spectators do not always agree with what happens on the mat and stupid arguments are what follows. When it comes to championship matches of this caliber, there are two Refs. and two coaches on the floor that are in charge and we hope are capable of making the right choices. Sportsmanship is not just for those in the sport, but also for those in attendance.

You are correct, however, not much sportsmanship throwing elbows and punches.  Will be a good championship this saturday .

  7. Worst officiating I've ever witnessed in all my yesrs.  A rushville boy wsd slammed, went unconsious and the ref let the 30 seconds come off the cloc to end the match.  He couldn't even walk off the mat by himself.

Same official gave a batesville boy a pt. for running out of bounds.  The batesville kid won by that one point.

  8. Well, I intended it to be in order, but after reading your comment I realize that majority of those arent possible, but I still think that those will be the top four placers.

Not close on some.  Here are mine.

113 - Ely, Butz, Martindale, Speaker

285 - McKee, Wolka, Mount, Hayes

Sorry Schueman, I think you have your 220 weight all wrong, you are giving yourself more credit than you deserve.  I've seen you wrestle on several occasions and you're just not gonna make it out. Sorry, pal

  9. Howard against Harnishfeger at EIAC

Something doesn't make sense here.  They have Howards record as losing only 6.  Are you telling me these are his ONLY losses?

    Harnishfeger pinned him twice

    Centerville pinned him

    Hittle beat him

Two losses at Spartan Classic one to Scholer one to valpo.

That's six... he also lost a match last week.  Right there is seven.  Is batesville trying to pull one over on everyone for better seeding?  Guess we'll go back through the results page.
