  1. What a great match and a shout out to Leo.  Great job Lions!  Bellmont had to come in thinking this to be a good dual-meet but knowing they would get the "W" by 13-16 points.  The loss of Friedt hurt and Leo without a 106lber is tough.  Also, Bellmont hurt by the need to bump a few guys up a weight class.

    Some thoughts:

    * 120lb. Ruble boy for Bellmont will be a stud this year and in the future.  Richard for Leo will be another great one!

    * 126lb. Davis for Leo get's a big win over ranked Mendez who normally is at 120.

    * 132lb. State Ranked Becker get's the win here but Leo's Hissong holds him to a Decision.

    * 138lb. Ranked Gunsett to me looked the best technically for Bell.  Kern held his own and his late scramble where Gunsett was on his back put a scare into the Bellmont crowd.

    * 145lb. Leo's State Ranked Eicher get's the Pin.  I hope that Gutierrez is not hurt bad.  I believe he rolled his ankle?

    * 152lb. A low scoring match win for Leo but fun to watch between two strong wrestlers.

    * 160lb. The 10-0 win for Bellmont was big.  Ranked Busse looked gassed at the end..

    * 170lb. Ranked Baumgartner gets the Pin with 10-sec remaining in match and tying the team scores.

    Meet started at 182lbs.......

    * 182lb. Wow, Hankenson is a beast... don't know how he's making weight at 182??

    * 220lb. This is where I thought all along that Leo had to get a Pin and only ended up with the MD...

    * 285lb. Leo's freshman Elwood weighing in around 205-210 put a scare into the Bellmont crowd.  He just started wrestling in 7th grade and gave the Bellmont big man a run..

  2. I coach middle school wrestling at Garrett.  As Joe said, we're in two conferences, the TCAC and ACAC.  We've used different weights and I just quit worrying about which weight classes we're using because it's different everywhere we travel.  Against FW Blackhawk we had 75-80-85-90-95-100-105-110-115-120-125-130-135-140-145-155-165-175-200-230-260. Against Heritage it was the same up until 130 and then it was 138-145-152-160-170-185-215-250

Against Fremont they followed the same as Central Noble.  ....This baffles me.  We need a universal set of weight classes for middle school wrestling in Indiana.

I was at the Garrett - Leo MS match last night (you have a very good team) and was wondering why the Garrett wrestlers on the roster was so different from who checked in to wrestle at each weight class?  My unoffical count had 11-Garrett wrestlers in a match of a weight class different from where they were listed on the roster??  A lot of the boys were wrestling up a class but there were a number wrestling down from their listed weight?  In addition, do the middle schoolers weigh in at the host school prior to the match?  Thanks Coach.
  3. At Carroll 220 if both Nicodemus and Wilson make it to the finals it would be two undefeated wrestlers going for the championship. Are there any other possible undefeated match-ups this weekend from around the state?

Wilson won conference (ACAC) at 195lbs.  Is Nicodemus also a small 220lb'er?

  4. Reading comprehension..SMH. I said, don't give me that lame "not at my school" (or IHSAA sanctioned).  If boy's have a sincere desire to compete at Volleyball, find a way and stop whining.  Go sign up for girls volleyball and softball and force the issue until you are satisfied.  That's what female wrestlers have done?  As I pointed out, lacrosse continues to thrive without support of most schools and the IHSAA.  Your right, fair is fair and I would support any boy that pushed the issue with volleyball.

Softball is a differant story.  Despite the desperate attempts to call men's softball competetive, any man playing softball started by playing baseball and settled for the watered down recreational opportinity softball offered after their dream of making it to the big leagues died.

I read what you said originally and nothing was there about "(or IHSAA sanctioned)" until now.  I also really don't care about lacrosse as I'm comparing girls and boys sporting events governed by the State of Indiana High School Athletic Association.  In regard to baseball and softball, girls are allowed to compete with boys in Baseball starting at "T-Ball" level.  You can define men's softball any way you want but you are again wrong if you define it as not being competetive.
  5. Right after they eliminate baseball, football and ...oh wait they DO have male gymnastics!!  (and don't give me that "not at my school" crap, didn't seem to stop lacrosse from growing!)

Nope, wrong again awood1.  No IHSAA sanctioned gymnastics for the boys, only the girls.  Same thing for Volleyball and Softball.  However, as we already know, the girls can try out for and are allowed to participate on the FOOTBALL and the WRESTLING squad.  Fair is fair, right?
  6. The Leo wrestler was Mark Toarmina.  I may have the first name wrong. He also had a brother who wasn't as good of a wrestler.  He wrestled around the 138-145 range and placed again the next year.  He was also the coach at Leo for a few years.

This would have been more like 29-years ago. I think that was 1982 or 1983 when that happened?

  7. You ppl make it sound like the 50's on this board.  The difference is men do not WANT to participate in girls sports. She is performing at a level that is exposing some of your insecurities. If the boys don't want her out there, wrestle her like a man and BEAT her...if you can. lol

So you say "men" don't want to participate in "girls sports"??  You might want to search around and see how many MEN'S Softball players are participating in the spring, summer and fall leagues throughout this great country...  In addition, men?s gymnastics and volleyball were at one time IHSAA sanctioned sporting events.  Wrestling was never an option for girls at that same time.  This all happened roughly 30-years after the 1950?s.
  8. boys can play volleyball!!! as long as it is a boys team bc the rules are different for boys and girls volleyball!  If there is one boy on a girls team they have to raise the net height to what the rules are for a boys team, but it can be done. There are high schools in Indiana that have a boys volleyball team.

Boys cannot play the IHSAA sanctioned sports of Gymnastics, Volleyball or Softball.  IF you are going to allow a girl to wrestle, you should allow a boy the opportunity to play the three sporting events listed above.  Fair is fair.
  9. The difference in official national rules is actually the reason usually given for not allowing boys to participate in sports like gymnastics or volleyball.   If that is a legitimate argument or not for not allowing them to participate what allowing girls to cross over to boys sports is an issue no one as fully tackled as of yet.

It appears to me that if/when a Boy wants? to participate in High School Volleyball, Softball or Gymnastics in the State of Indiana, all he would require is a claim of "sex discrimination".  Make a call to "Public Justice" and "Philadelphia's Hangley Aronchick Segal & Pudlin (HASP)" and they'll take care of the rest....

  10. While Fitch has had a lot of success in the UFC, his style is reallllly boring.  Of his 15 fights in the UFC, he's ended 3 ended by submission and 1 by TKO.  The rest of his fights have been decisions and now this draw.  He hasn't finished a fight since 2007, as his last 9 fights have ended in decisions.  I'm obviously as big a fan of wrestling as anyone, but if I want to see a bunch of takedowns I'll watch college matches on the Big Ten Network.  People watch the UFC to see fights, and Fitch's lay and pray style is really hurting his chances for advancement in the league.  Dana White is reluctant to give him another shot at the title because his style is so unentertaining.  Heck, he's even from my hometown and I don't like watching him.

ALL of the UFC's have been boring since the original rules were changed somewhere around or after UFC #10 back in the mid 1990's.  If you want to see good UFC fights again they need to revert back to the original rules when the fights had NO time limits, NO rounds, NO weight limitations.  The only rules were no eye gouging and no fish-hooking.  Groin shots were allowed and used quite often.  Man do I miss the days of Tank Abbot and that crew!
