  1.       Many officials put a lot of time into becoming a better official, including myself.  Working pre-season, post season, all levels from elementary state tournaments, middle school tournaments and national tournaments,  attend pre-season clinics, certification clinics, rules interpretation clinics. post season, association meetings.  We do to better ourselves.  Then we wait for coaches ratings, only to see ratings from schools we have not worked for, nor ever seen and some never heard of casting votes.  I know one of the 5's is tossed, and one of the 2's is tossed.   Averaging a 3.794118.    What if two of the schools that never saw one of those officials gave two's cause well that official was on the list and well they "just didn't remember them"  If they didn't vote the score would jump to over 3.90.    This could move an official up 10-15 spots and could mean the difference between being assigned just a sectional to potentially a semi-state.

So with coaches vote being 50% of the score, should it not be an accurate score?   I think we would be willing to do the homework to determine every school we see, enter that info onto IHSAA.net. At that point, notification is sent to that school that that particular official had worked that event and at that time a vote could be cast.  Could be a 2 or could be a 5.   I think, this could also give a good indication of the officials overall ability to work 1. a dual meet, 2. a multi-dual event, a two day event, a individual bracketed tournament.  And would also determine favorable or non favorable coaches votes.  For instance,  if one coach disagrees with a call and sours him for the rest of the day and maybe he gives that official a 2 because of his displeasure, but 5 other coaches at the event give the official a 4, is he worthy of the 2 or the 4's??  and of course vice versa.

I definitely don't have all the answers, and I'm sure I have made some bad points but hopefully some good ones too.   We have seen in this post the system in front of us.  And that is what we have to work with.  We will continue to grind, and get better everyday for the betterment of the sport, teams, and individual wrestlers in order to get the best kids to the state level.

  2. How many people noticed this weekend how IMO  rude Brooks was, by walking right inbetween the two wrestlers that just finished before him.  And sometimes even taking the ankle bands from the wrestler themselves.   I saw him do it Friday night, in the Quarters and Semi's  and thought it was EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL  of him to do it after the finals of 106.   thoughts?????

if the final was 51-21.  terriquiez could not have beat miilliron  12-2.  because he was only awarded 3pts.

  4. I have not seen the wrestler from UCi wrestle this year, but to imply that Fuller is soo much better than everyone that its laughable for him to lose, thats funny rite there.  ;D

if you read the earlier post,  Someone picked clark to beat terriquez at 113,  That was laughed at by SA parent,  then SAparent went on to say the upset of the tournament was that Terriquez beats fuller at 132.  I just thought it was funny.    And i know you say this because you can not get over that Fuller beat Port.  Why is it so impossible.  Fuller beat port as a freshman,  then as a sophomore he weighed in at 120 and bumped up to 130 to wrestle Port got a concussion in the 1st period, finished the match and lost 7-0.  then looses 7-6.  then wins 8-6.  But somehow it is a fluke, refs fault, timers fault,  i've even seen people on other threads blame the person who is suppose to throw the towel in, for Richmonds losses.  DONT LEAVE IT IN THE REFS HANDS!    Enough said,  this is the TEC thread.

  5. There are going to be a lot of great matches. Terriquez is my upset pick to beat fuller. So what are some other upset picks?

You laugh at clark beating Terriquez but, pick the other Terriquez to beat Fuller, LOL.  Wyatt couldnt do it as a freshman,  Rascon could not do it as a sophomore and Terriquez will not do it when he is a Jr.  You have a lot to learn Young Grasshopper!  L :o

  6. Big Blue learn how to read.  I said I wasn't concerened with a 1 and 2 seed.  It was 3 and 4.  The 4 would wrestle the 1 seed.  Instead of being seeded 3rd and wrestling the 2 seed.   For example, how about wrestling in Cody Phillips' weight class.  The one is his, but I'd rather be seeded 3rd instead of 4th.  This is when the records and wrestling each other would help.   Laugh you all you want, until someone on your team or your kid is screwed over by seeding and how the TEC does it.

And what are you talking so much about Winchester and Union County??   Just fyi, Union County wrestles a much tougher schedule than Winchester.  All I have said is that Union City and Union County would be my favorites.   Not really sure what you are talking about anyways??

I can read just fine  but your spelling could use some work.     I did say if your son/wrestler has only 3 losses chances of him being seeded 4th are very slim.   But really who does Union City wrestle,  this topic has been addressed before and I understand that you can only wrestle who is in front of you.  But when a contract is up with a certain school plan on changing your schedule.  Many teams have left the ECIC and many will argue this tourney is not what it used to be.  Pick one of the more talked about tourneys to wrestle in over the holidays,  Spartan Classic, Mooresville,  Al Smith something of that nature.  Just as teams like Yorktown has done.   Then common opponent may come into play as well.  You dont have to always wrestle a team one on one but wrestle somebody they do.  (this is not always the answer but it helps.)  Hagerstown, Centerville, Union County, Northeastern, wrestle in the Spartan Classic.  Lincoln, wrestles New Castle, Connersville, Westfield, Columbus East,  Jay County, Milan, the first weekend of the year.   Union County left the Union City five way when Union City refused to send kids out to wrestle phillips his freshman year and go to a dual to wrestle New Castle, South Adams, Alexandria, Fishers, Mason OH instead of  wrestling Monroe Central, Randolph Southern, and Daleville (with no disresct to their programs) were not in the best interest of the program and went to North Central to wrestle Cathedral, Hamilton Southeastern, Westfield, and others.  I see where Northeastern is Heading west this weekend to wrestle  Roncalli, Ben Davis, Warren Central and one other.  So Schedules can be changed,  When was the last time Union City sought tougher competition?  Thats all everyone is saying.    You asked me to talk about Union City  so i am.

  7. I'm not talking about difference between 1 and 2 seeds.  I'm talking about a 3 or 4 seed.  Or 5th  and 6th seed.   This is where it matters.  My kid may not be able to win the tourney but could beat the 2 seed and finish second.  But because of bad seeding and not a conference schedule where everyone wrestles, my kid not finishes 3rd.  Which in turn hurts that team.  For teams to win conference the number of 2nd and 3rd placers matters just as much as winning it all.

    [/quote

allaboutturks,    keep posting your comments cause you make me laugh.      if your son is either  18-3 and the Lincoln wrestler is 19-3 and somehow they dont wrestle and the lincoln kid gets the nod over your son.  You really need to understand that there is actually no difference between the Number one seed and the number two seed.  they are just in opposite brackets.  I may be wrong here but i believe they just seed the Top 4  but  could be wrong.  So with the blind draw with positions 5-8  #1 and #2 seeds really dont matter.    And then to take it a step further  #2 and #3 seeds are not that much different as they are both still in the bottom bracket wrestling blind draw opponents and will meet in the semi's.  So if your son has only 3 losses.  i doubt if he would fall to a #4 seed who would have to wrestle the #1 seed in the semis.

Also another good chuckle i saw today was when i was reading the Paladium item and saw winchester was in a 8 way at Richmond yesterday and went  5-0.  HA.  It has been posted on this board before how down Winchester is this year and how bad they were beatin by Union County, Union City and i believe Centerville.  And they are in a dual meet event where they can go 5-0.

and i have read on here where Union County has been in events where they were 1-5  and 0-5 i think.

So dont worry if your son only has 3 losses.  he will be seeded more than likely #1 or #2.  But what i would be concerned with is someone from Union County that may have  8 losses and upsets your #1 seeded 3 loss kid, like Union Countys 215lber did last year vs winchester.  or there 119 lber seeded second  tech falling winchesters #1 seed.

Cream generally rises to the top and it will,  problem is how many cheap team pts will the wrestler with the good record pick up before the "cream" actually puts him in his place.

  8. I would vote for

Phillips for sure, Handley, and Walters.   Close to making the top 3 would be Wyatt and Fuller.

    Coaches...Union County?

Team with possible MOST CHAMPS....Union County.  4 maybe 5 Champs.

Fuller is a junior has Two conference Championships  winning those championships as a freshman by fall over  then #1 seed Wyatt ho only had like 3 losses that year,  went on to win a Sectional, Regional runner-up (to Campbell) which made him a semi-state qualifier.  Loosing to Price of Arsenal Tech.  As a sophomore won Conference championship by Beating again #1 seed Rascon of Winchester by Technical Fall in the finals who i think only had like 3 losses on the year.  Going on to win another Sectional championship and another regional runner-up to .... again Campbell of New Castle (state runner-up)  and falling in the semi-state to Arsenal Tech's Charlie Mcginley.

So i think if i had to choose  i would go with a top 4 and  and say Phillips #1  followed by  Fuller, Handley and Babcock in no particular order.

  9. What about tri lincoln center ville, any of them have any standouts?

dont know much about Tri and Lincoln,   but in Centerville's loss to Connersville they only had one Victory and that was at 220lbs Babcock.   That in itself is a standout.   I dont want to say that they dont have any others, but from what i heard he is on pace to break the schools takedown record and doing this as an upper weight  is another out"standing" accomplishment.

  10. Whyatt shouldve won. That kid was pretty bad, and didnt know how to run the legs.

Pretty Bad?  Handley beat a state qualifier already this year,  AND beat Wyatt last year in the conference finals.  By pin i believe.  So if you are saying Handley is pretty bad, what does that say about Wyatt?  Guess Wyatt can have another shot at him at the ECIC.  But I would imagine the result will be the same as the last two.  No guarantees but just a guess.

  11. At 120 you have Cody Phillips from Union County who is going 126 and also at 120 Austin Fuller is from Union County, not Franklin County, he will likely be at 132.  At 132 Cody Handley won't make it, very likely he goes 145, at the least 138.

Yeah i thought Fuller from Union County would be up there at 132.  I think he is a junior 2XSSQ.  losing to Campbell twice in Regional championships  drawing Price his freshman year at SS and McGinley his soph year.

  12. 2.  I would bet that Minnesota got Mr. Phillips and an unexpected discount; probably less than 35% of full ride.  Minnesota can send a gift card to Mason Todd

& Brooks who had great seasons and gave him his three losses last year.  Last years State semifinals / finals had a significant impact on the recruiting ferris wheel.

If Cody wins that weight las year, his selection of school, their money available, and the indirect impact on other Indiana signings might have been really interesting.

I waited a day to respond.

Im not going to say you are stupid,  but apparently you are an idiot to this topic and should not have even put in your two cents.    do you honestly believe that there was some type of conversation between Minesota and Phillips that went something like  "Well Mr Phillips we would really like to give you an 80 % scholarship but since you ONLY have two Indiana State titles we will only give you 35%. "

Where on earth did you get the idea that Brooks beat Phillips 3 times.  For your information  Phillips is 136-2.  and 133 of those victories were without a defeat.  Who do you think backed out of the race for Cody after last year???

Again just comment on things you know and let everything else go.

  13. 1. I do not know all rules that the Ihsaa has for wrestling, but was over hearing talks in the crowd that CP could have had a DQ for the 160 match due to the coach sending the wrestler on the mat to wrestle 152 and then pulling him to wrestle 160. I was told that once you check in to wrestle at the table you wrestle or you don't, you can not check in to wrestle 2 different weights.

The coin toss at the beginning of the match determines which wrestler is required to check in first and which wrestler has choice at the end of the 1st period.  And once the wrestlers have reported in the "PROPER SEQUENCE" they can not be pulled back.

So if at 135 it is greens choice and a wrestler checks in,  then red checks in.  they have met proper sequence and neither wrestler can be pulled back with out forfeiting.

Now lets assume it is Greens choice and red checks in first,  then green,  red can be pulled back and replaced with another wrestler because proper sequence has not taken place.

      Hope this helps.

  14. I like zachpeirson's picks the most so far; even the 3rd's and 4th's look right. 140 will throw the thing off though watch out for McCoy he had a couple close ones with Levi before and I think his conditioning will beat these kids in the third period. That's the only discrepancy i saw and a little too much generosity to the Shen. wrestlers.  ;D  ;D (and Fletcher will take 189  ;) )

119 is wrong.    McDaniel does not beat McFarland and if so  he has had trouble getting past Fuller at Connersville and TEC.  other than than i would agree.

Winchester won team title. Cent 2nd. Unci 3rd unco 4th

  16. little birdie told me that  Phillips of UnCo was a #1 at 112 (no surprise,)  119  rascon WC #1 and Fuler Unco #2 (??).  125  Taresh Ce. #1 and Terrequez UnCi#2.  130 Wyatt UnCi. #1 and Handley NE #2 (oops).  160 Simmons WC #1 and Gesell UnCo #2 (tough class).  189 Fletcher Ce #1 and Grimes Unco #2.  215 Chalfant WC #1 and Babcock Ce #2.  Then the sun went down and the birdie stopped singin.

  17. Wrestler11,

looking at your finals predictions do you believe Taresh is dropping to 125.  Because Union County pinned Centerville's 125 so i would give him the nod over Centerville's 125.  And Taresh beat Union city's 130.  And alot of these finals w ill depend on the the seeding meeting.
