  1. I heard Flo is putting on a "Who's #1" Tournament at the Pit on November 2nd. It is supposed to be a dual of epic proportion to see who is the legitimate #1 in the country, all expenses paid, etc. Sounds fun. Collegiate and H.S. match-ups possible: Micic vs. Boston sticks out the most, Pixley vs. NJ kid, possibly Oliver getting in on the action, etc. Anyone heard anything about it?
  2. ...because of Moratorium. Perfect timing for Fargo. #tongueincheek. Train somewhere guys, even if it is strength and conditioning. Have a great July 4th, Indiana!
  3. This year we are putting together an official media guide for Team Indiana for Fargo. So far it is coming along wonderful. There are hundreds of colleges, universities and coaches from all levels who will be in attendance looking for recruits at this tournament. We look forward to a great showing by Indiana!!!! 6. Getting down to the wire! I know there will be a good turnout tonight as many guys prepare for Junior Duels, Disney Duels, and the other national tournaments coming up. Bring your shoes and will power! We plan to cover a little technique, but will provide more live wrestling tonight for conditioning and weight management purposes. See you at 6!
  7. It's a long tournament either way but, yes, many efforts were made to get our best, starting with the IHSAA State Finals in February. Without naming specifics names, for confidentiality reasons, there were a variety of issues as to why many would not hop on: Disney Duels and FILA Juniors are essentially going on at the same time as Junior Duels. I had several kids that wanted to compete in Oklahoma but their high school coach would get mad because they're needed in Disney. Current injuries and not wanting to get banged up before Fargo was another. Football conditioning and baseball snatched some up. Some have summer jobs. Some of the seniors who have already signed their NLI and didn't feel a reason to go, whether they're taking a break before their first semester or they don't want their stock to drop in the coach's eyes. Some are just focused on training, and using their money, to pay for Fargo. Some simply don't have the money. Folkstyle is still pulling some away. Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc. It would be a much easier sell if the trip was free but, as Y2 eluded to, this would be extremely unfair for the other trips as the ISWA already does a lot in making the trips easier on parent's pockets. I think I paid twice as much to go to Fargo and the Duels when I was competing than what they are paying now. It's the perception of the trip I think, but definitely the overall mindset towards it needs a 180 degree adjustment. Oklahoma is not necessarily a sexy destination. Don't get me wrong: competing for a title is the only reason to go, as the true warriors will go wrestle in Haiti if needed, and it shouldn't matter. But we can post Disney Dual openings on the board and I would be willing to bet those spots get filled easier than Oklahoma. Sure, Daytona Beach for the Cadets sounds like a blast. It will be moving to Pennsylvania in the immediate future but I'm sure they will still have a decent turnout. Iowa isn't sexy, but the Juniors got 2nd at Folkstyle Nationals this year because of the mindset towards Folkstyle. My goal is to charge this year as a learning year as the Junior Team has been in decline for a few years now. Thank God, and the Indianamat staff, for allowing Indiana to have a platform to be heard, because now we are all beginning to see the effects. Personally, some of the solutions I will be working on are establishing stronger relationships with the Cadets and parents about the importance of this trip, locking some of them in ahead of time, changing the perception of the Junior Duels with better marketing campaign, and begin garnering more support from H.S. coaches about the importance of participating. I also think the wrestling will experience a rennaissance with this whole IOC thing, and 74kg at the Trials alone should renew interest in Freestyle. It's like Field of Dreams: if you build it they will come. When we have some of Indiana's more recognized wrestlers on the team, the others will come out of the shadows as there will be more excitement about going out there. Having a loaded team does not necessarily guarantee Indiana's success either, but it does give us a more competitive chance. There are a variety of issues and solutions out there and I'm certain that Coach Erikson, myself, the ISWA, etc. are open to any and all logical suggestions. To the Junior Team: the itinerary will be posted again later today. Also, we are working to stream the Duels from Oklahoma for your viewing enjoyment. Thanks, Indiana!
  8. Coach Erikson, with everything you have going on you have done a great job, and continue to do so. You are a pioneer in our sport and your dedication both on and off the mat have helped thousands of individuals. You have done more for Indiana over this one summer than most coaches have the ability to do in a lifetime. Indiana is extremely fortunate to have you and I look forward to learning absolutely everything I can from you. With that said, to any haters or doubters: Coach Erikson, myself, the ISWA, etc. cannot do it alone. It's a cultural issue for the state that we have to address collectively. I originally had a long post in response to this but with all of the smoke I chose to take a break from the boards. Yes, the real issue is not the 8th grader stepping in but more so why did he have to and why aren't the other Juniors jumping to fill these spots. This tournament is a GREAT OPPORTUNITY! Not only individually in regards to getting some of the best competition in the country, but also as a chance to go represent your state with hopes of winning a national championship for Indiana!!!! I personally would have much rather had Indiana's best Junior(s) at this weight, which we went after, but for various reasons (primarily $) none wanted to take advantage of the opportunity. Even still, many of the kids that are on the Junior team aren't rolling in dough either. They had to go hit the pavement and fundraise, get donations, etc. This is deeper than my sources. Nevertheless, on the bright side, all of this hoopla brings awareness and awareness is good. We have gotten a lot of support from the true supporters about what we can/should do in the future to address this issue, and the process has already started for next year. With that said I can promise one thing: 1) whether we fill these spots or not, rest assured Indiana will go out there and wrestle our a$$e$ off to try and win a national championship! To the Juniors wrestling on this trip, keep training fellas, keep that chip on your shoulder, it's gonna be a fun run! Happy Father's Day, Indiana!
  9. Thank you for this info and your insight, Y2. We were told by several sources it could, and could not, be allowed. I didn't think so but heard there was a chance it could be allowed. We received official confirmation yesterday. Kudos to the kid for trying to step up and in. In the meantime, the issue still remains: filling these spots. Hopefully someone can step in. Great opportunity for a guaranteed 6+ matches against the countries best while representing our state. For more information please contact myself or Coach Erikson.
  10. Not that well known and injuries. There are several kids banged up that are still going because they want to compete (broken hand, dislocated knee, etc.), but other injuries that cant be overcome. Thanks
  11. Thanks, DADOF145#er, as you hit it right on the head. It's a great opportunity and you have raised a great individual and competitor! However, Indiana, due to a series of unfortunate events we now have 3 openings on the Junior Team Roster that just became available with one week to go: 113 & 182 Freestyle 106 Greco Indiana, can we pull off filling this spot? Are there any wrestlers/families in Indiana who have the mindset, will power, and resources to step in on such short notice? Trust the recruiting process for next year's event has already started. But in the meantime we need ANYONE in these weight classes, with the resources, willing to to represent to Team Indiana, in Oklahoma, at the Junior Duels, who wants mat time against some of the best competition in the country! For the record, Skylour Turner is going to be extremely tough throughout his high school season. He is only an 8th grader and was going to step in and wrestle both Junior 106 Greco AND 113 Freestyle! That in itself is commendable as he wants the mat time against the best. After a few summers with Nathan Boston and Deondre Wilson as practice partners at Indiana Pride, he is pretty dialed in to come into high school and make an immediate impact. Sky, we look forward to your representation and career in the year's to come. Keep your head up! But, yes, INDIANA let's FILL THESE SPOTS!!!!! It's definitely a short notice but if you are interested, please contact myself or Coach Erikson for more information! 106 Greco 113 Freestyle 182 Freestyle

  18. Schoolboys are done and Cadets are taking place, leaving several more major tournaments including Junior Duels, FILA Juniors, and Fargo! Come out tonight for a solid training session as we fine tune our techniques and get ready for what's next. A variety of studs will be in the building tonight, including Indiana's own Brandon Wright as he trains for the World Team Trials in Oklahoma. Whether you are just coming to show your support, gearing up for the next national tournament, or simply getting ready for next season, Warren's RTC is on tonight! Enter door 14, wrestling room upstairs, and come ready to roll!
  19. Indiana gets a bye first round, draws Pennsylvania Red in the semifinals of Pool B
  20. Wrestling begins tomorrow, Wednesday, at 9 AM in Daytona Beach, starting with Greco and Freestyle beginning Friday! Should be a great event with a solid group of Cadets looking to make it happen. Let's go, Indiana! 21. The Junior Team is full as of today. The new updates will be posted soon. In regards to the trends, it seems Schoolboy is the easiest roster to fill, Cadets slightly tougher, but yes the Juniors Team is another animal. Part of what I've seen/heard (this being my first year) is that many of the older wrestlers are simply living life. Some are getting ready for college, others are working, some are just concentrating on Fargo, some are burned out, more coaches concentrating on folkstyle, etc. etc. This is some of the feedback I've gotten as it cannot be narrowed down to one issue. I do think it would be easier to pitch if the price was lower or taken care of, but that is probably with every age group, and I know enough to know I don't know anything. I've spoken with some of my buddies around the country, in both thin and deep states, and they have similar issues. At 18, mom and dad are spent too, so there is more responsibility on the wrestler to provide for themselves (financially speaking), or the wrestler has to either choose between duels or Fargo. Also, by this time, the Junior's wrestling experience/career is about tapped out for most kids, whereas the Schoolboys have yet to have their H.S. careers, so those kids and families are prone to take advantage of more opportunities as the dreams of being State Champs is still alive and well. The ISWA has done a great job on continuing to ratchet down the price, especially with inflation, but the economy isn't clicking on all cylinders yet and may not ever get back to where it was. With that said, on a bright note, there is still an opportunity to reverse this trend. It was an absolute privelage to wrestle on the Junior team back in the day and I can recount our teams being littered with Indiana's best from top to bottom. I truly believe we can return to this mindset of it being a privelage to wrestle for the Junior Team, and there are some steps I, along with the ISWA, are continuing to take to make this a reality: making it cheaper for them, providing financial assistance and other opportunities to lower the cost, establishing stronger ties and planting those seeds with the Cadets and their parents, better planning and recruiting, etc. etc. Nevertheless, Indiana, even though we don't have more of our "well known" names in the line-up, the guys we are taking this year are extremely competitive. They are excited about the opportunity and are ready to wrestle their hearts out for Indiana. They understand this is an opportunity to get better and will only help our state get deeper in terms of quality, as many of these kids will definitely be in the mix next year. I, and the Junior Staff, am excited about taking these guys to Oklahoma and, whatever happens, will absolutely make Indiana proud. To the Junior Team: we had a great camp. Keep training and preparing yourself. Remember, we will not compete - but we will perform. We will hit Oklahoma City in style and our goal remains the same: bringing home a National Title!
  22. 160 and 170 spots still available as several kids backed out for various reasons. Great opportunity to wrestle for Indiana's national team, compete against some of the country's best, and try and help Indiana win a national title. If you are going to Fargo, you will see some of the same wrestlers. If you aren't "ready" for Fargo, this is still a great chance to get at least 8 matches in against national competition. For more information, please contact myself or Coach Erikson for more details. 160 and 170!
  23. Due to the Schoolboy Duels taking place at Warren Central, tonight's RTC will be cancelled. Get ready to roll next week!!!!!! (Wrestle well Indiana!)
  24. The clinicians for the camp have just been posted. Should be a great camp and event to say the least. If you are interested in wrestling for the junior team in Oklahoma and training at this camp, there are still open slots available. Please contact myself or Tom Erikson for more details.
  25. Session 1: Nick Hull (Indiana Pride Academy) Session 2: Chris Fleeger (Purdue University) Session 3: Alex Tsirtsis (Region Wrestling Academy) Session 4: Steve Bradley (Lincoln College) Session 5: Joe Leblanc (Indiana University) Session 6: Andrew Nicola (Cumberland University) Session 7: Thomas Pompei (Indiana Tech) Looks like it's going to be a great camp with some of Indiana's finest! The cost of this camp is included in the fee for duels, so get ready to roll. If you haven't made up your mind on if you're going, or want to take an open spot, please contact myself, Coach Erikson or Coach Pompei for more information!
