  1. [move]Arizona State University Wrestling Clinic - September 6th - $40 - ages 5-18 @ Warren Central H.S.[/move]

    OVERVIEW

In light of our recent success at the 2014 Asics/Vaughan Cadet and Junior National Championships, more of the country’s top wrestling programs are turning their eye towards Indiana.  One of these programs are the Sun Devils of Arizona State University.  With past success including 2010 National Champions Anthony Robles and Bubba Jenkins, they have recently turned the corner with the hiring of USA Olympic Freestyle Coach and World Champion Zeke Jones this summer, who comes off of coaching the USA Olympians in the 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2012 Olympic Games.  Under his tenure, the US has placed seventh, fifth and third in the World Championships, as well as achieving five individual World Champion medals, including two-time World Champion Jordan Burroughs.  During the Jones era, USA has placed sixth in 2010 and third in 2012 and 2013 at the Freestyle World Cups, won 8 Junior World medals, five University World medals and four Cadet World medals.

Before taking the challenge of redirecting the US Freestyle Program, Coach Jones coached at University of Pennsylvania, and was on staffs at West Virginia, Arizona State and Bloomsburg University.  Jones coached teams have finished in the NCAA Final Four twice, in the top-10 four times and won six conference team championships.  Individually his wrestlers have won six NCAA titles, eight NCAA finalist, 36 individual conference champions, 29 All- Americans, 74 NCAA Qualifiers, and 11 wrestlers have competed in the NWCA All Star Meet.

Coach Jones’ presence at Arizona State has already been felt as they hosted the 2014 World Team Training Camp and recently signed two-time NCAA Champion Chris Pendleton from Oklahoma State to join the coaching staff.  They have also begun solidifying their ascension toward the nation’s elite with the signings of both #1 ranked Zahid Valencia and Anthony Valencia of Bosco, California.  Again, with Indiana’s recent success, and because he will be at the World Championships in Uzbekistan on September 6th, Coach Jones still wants to tap into Indiana’s market and is sending his right-hand man, Head Assistant Coach Lee Pritts to run a clinic JUST for Indiana!!

This clinic is open to all entrants ages 5-18, so be sure to bring your wrestler for a fun and informative time with one of the top wrestling programs in the country, as well as one of the top staffs in IPWA.  There are many wrestlers signed up for this to both fine tune and manage any weight before the Indianamat Preseason Open.  Weigh ins for the IPO start Saturday, September 6th from 6pm-9pm.

    Featured Clinician:

Lee Pritts, Head Assistant Coach, Arizona State University

Coach Pritts is highly regarded as one of the top recruiters in college wrestling with a knack for identifying talent.  Prior to his time at Arizona State, he spent time at NC State, University of Missouri, and Old Dominion, forging a reputation of consistent top-10 classes of numerous high school All-Americans and/or multiple –time state champions.  His recruiting skills aren't the only thing that has paid off as his coaching skills are just as impressive.  He has coached multiple NCAA qualifiers, All-Americans and National Champions, including both 2x NCAA Champion Ben and NCAA Champion Max Askren, as well as Junior World Champion Dom Bradley.  Pritts himself was 3x NCAA Qualifier and All-American for Eastern Michigan University.

IPWA Staff will also be in attendance:

Nick Hull – Hull, former IHSAA State Champion, is currently an ISWA Board Member and Greco Roman Director for Indiana, helping spearhead Indiana's Regional Training Center Program, and has served as the Assistant Team Leader and Coach for Team Indiana at the USAW Folkstyle Nationals in Iowa, Schoolboy National Duals in Indiana, Cadet National Duals in Florida, Junior National Duals in Oklahoma, and the Junior and Cadet Nationals in Fargo.  He was the 2011 ISWA Cadet & Junior Coach of the Year, represented Indiana at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for the 2011 Fall Coaching Clinic, and has coached numerous National Champions, All-Americans, State Champions, State Place winners, etc.  He is internationally certified in Freestyle by FILA, and was most recently named the 2014 USAW National Developmental Coach of the Year.

Steven Bradley - A native and legend of Indiana, Coach Bradley was an undefeated 3x IHSAA State Champion for Beech Grove HS. He was a Cadet National Champion, multiple time All-American and was one of the top wrestlers in the country upon graduation.  He wrestled at Oklahoma State under legendary coach John Smith his first year in college before transferring to Lincoln College, where he was a National runner-up in 2000 for the Lynx. After graduation from Lincoln, Coach Bradley transferred to University of Indianapolis for a year before his college career was cut short due to injury. He served the last four years as Assistant Coach for Indy before going back to Lincoln where he eventually took over as Head Coach. In that time he helped produce 28 collegiate All-Americans and consistently had one of the highest program GPA's in the country. Bradley was inducted into the Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2007.

Shane Perkey - Coach Perkey comes to Indiana Pride with a great prep and collegiate career, both as wrestler and coach.  He came to us after spending several years as an assistant coach at Lindsey Wilson College and University of Indianapolis.  As a wrestler he competed at University of Indianapolis finishing with a 149-23 record as the school’s first and only 4x All-American, and ending his career as a runner-up and 3x 4th place finisher.  Hailing from Jimtown High School, Coach Perkey tallied an impressive 163-13 record placing 3rd and 5th, losing to eventual Indiana phenom Angel Escobedo.  Coach Perkey brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to the Indiana Pride Academy staff and has been an exceptional addition in relation to our members and parents.  Currently Coach Perkey is training at Indy Boxing & Grappling pursuing his MMA career.

Katie Kriebel -  Without a doubt, Indiana Hall of Fame Coach Kriebel (formerly Downing) is easily the most decorated athlete at IPWA coming in as a 3x World Medalist.  She began wrestling her freshman year at Pendleton Heights where she eventually won the 1998 USWGA National Champions.  She moved on to wrestle at University of Minnesota-Morris where she tallied 98 wins, was on 4 U.S. National Teams, and finished her college career by winning the 2002 U.S. World Team Trials.  She pursued her career on the Senior circuit where she was one of the best athletes in the world.  She was an Olympic Training center resident for years and captured multiple national and international championships.  After her extensive travels, she moved back to Pendleton Heights where she is now the Assistant Coach for the Arabians.  She has helped numerous athletes across the country and IPWA is fortunate to have her as her knowledge, technique and overall experience on the international level is invaluable.

Mark Friend - Coach Friend comes to IPWA via Libertyville, Illinois where he and his family have an extensive history.  His prep career was successful as a three-time state qualifier, a runner-up at 160 pounds at the 2004 Illinois State Championships, and was an Academic Honor Roll member.  Coach Friend also excelled in freestyle and Greco-Roman competition winning both Illinois state titles in 2002, was a two-time freestyle All-American finishing eighth at the 2003 Junior High School Nationals and seventh at the 2004 Senior High School Nationals, finished fifth at the 2002 Greco-Roman Junior World Team Trials, second in freestyle and fourth in Greco-Roman at the 2003 Junior Southeast Regionals, second at the 2003 Tulsa Folkstyle Nationals and third at the 2003 AAU Folkstyle Nationals. He finished his competitive career as a 3 year starter for Penn State University, where he graduated in 2009.

Currently, we are in the process of upgrading our training facility, getting new gear, and building our youth teams to travel for national competition.  Space is limited but our goal is to create Indiana wrestlers with perfect technique, higher expectations, and a hunger to get better - all in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere.  Private instructions are also available and ensure your athlete receives hands on guidance to maximize their potential as fast as possible.

  4. Monday night was solid as everyone got whooped in some capacity.  Full house.  Great competition.  We covered some key techniques that normally, regardless of how good we are, automatically take us out of contention against the best in the country if we lack in those areas.  Nevertheless, if you are a Cadet or Junior in Central-Indiana, we are looking forward to another great night of training for those looking to do well at Fargo!  Hope to see you tonight!

    2926 E. Washington Street

    7-830 pm

    $10

Bring your gear, water, and will power and be ready to train!

We will be covering the essentials Indiana needs to maximize our potential at Fargo, including core techniques and live wrestling, and welcome any Indiana wrestler making that trip to come train - as well as those looking for a good workout.

Practices will be over the next 2 weeks starting tonight, Monday, July 7th, from 7-830p, Wednesday, July 9th, from 7-830p, and next Monday and Wednesday as well. 6. If you plan on wrestling at the 2014 ASICS/Vaughan Junior & Cadet National Championships in Fargo, we are currently getting the 2014 Indiana Recruiting Guide together now to ensure it is the highest quality possible.  Please send the following information and head shot picture to coachnhull@gmail.com as soon as you know you are going.  The official form will be posted on ISWA website, but you can use this info in the meantime. If we have not received your information by July 13th there is a strong chance you will not be in the guide.  Wrestlers who have already committed to a school, be sure to still fill out the info and we will put the designated college or university you will be attending.  Shout out to the Schoolboys this past weekend, the Cadets this week, and the Juniors at the end of the month!

COACHES:  PUSH THIS EVENT WITH YOUR KIDS!  KNOW BETTER!  This is the only NATIONAL tournament we have DIRECT access to without traveling across the country and paying an arm and a leg for.  There is still time to register!!! In order to be a monster you have to first slay a monster.  The monsters are here! I see 20+ kids who are nationally ranked just skimming over the list.  Take advantage of this annual opportunity!!

    Let's go Indiana!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. The selection will be over once we have filled the spots.  Literally.  Last year we had a tough time filling one weight in particular, as we had 3 guys commit and then drop out.  Fortunately we were able to fill the spot a day before we left for Oklahoma with Juwon Bartlett who, bless his heart, had never wrestled Freestyle a day in his life but was a state placing senior who was headed to college and wanted the experience.  Of course this is not ideal.  If it were up to me in particular I would almost have next year's team filled yesterday, but we have a selection process that aims to be as fair as possible.  Competing with Disney and VA presents a fair share of problems but it is what is.  As of right now we are getting closer to filling the roster as there is interest from all parts of Indiana, we just want to make sure we get the best possible candidate in there.  To those who have submitted your info we have your information and the selection committee has been reviewing applications daily.  Coach Erikson please correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe that after this weekend with Central Regionals we should be fairly close to completing the line-up if not having it  filled it all together.  Either way, it will be a great tournament and experience, and thanks to Indianamat for giving us all a platform to hash it out and bring awareness.  Still, if you are interested, please submit your info and a member of the selection committee will be contacting you soon.

  9. Don't get left behind!!!

It's going DOWN again tonight at Warren Central RTC on the east side!

Central Regionals is coming up and, although more Indiana wrestlers need to take advantage of having a national tournament in our back yard, if you are competing this weekend you need to be at an RTC.  If it's not Warren Central, it should be Perry, Brownsburg, Avon, Jimtown, etc etc etc.  There is no other room during these months where you can train with a variety of athletes and help sharpen each other than at an ISWA RTC.

With that said, come get some tonight if you are in Indianapolis to help ensure you are ready!  Always a tough room at a great facility with top-notch coaching.  6-730p @ Warren Central, enter door 14 and the wrestling room is upstairs in the field house.

Let's show out this weekend, Indiana!!!!

  10. Training for Central Regionals?

    Duals?

    Nationals?

Just looking to get better for next year?

Look no further than Indiana Pride Wrestling Academy in Indianapolis!

For $50 a month your athlete recieves year-round training for 2+ days a week, USAW Core Curriculum, advanced technique, high quality coaching, a competitive room and most importantly RESULTS!

While most take off after state and during the summer, IPWA turns up!  When there is no stress of competition, performance is better.  The same goes for training.  When you're having fun and training hard when everyone else is sleeping, higher success is eminent.

Membership also includes FREE boxing, Jitz, kickboxing and MMA training by some of Indiana's best including Olympic Gold Medalist "Sugar" Ray Seales and other UFC coaches.

For more information, please visit www.indianaprideacademy.com or call 317.800.5369.

Come maximize your potential at IPWA!

  11. Below is Indiana's current roster for the 2014 Junior National Dual Championships in Oklahoma City, June 23-28.  This tournament is the official USAW national dual tournament and features the best of the best with states such as Pennsylvania, Illinois, California, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, New York, Florida, Washington, etc. in attendance ready to perform.  Last year one weight class alone featured 10 of the top 20 nationally ranked wrestlers - and two were on the same team.  It is the official precursor to the national championships in Fargo, undefeated wrestlers make the All-Dual Team as well as get bumped up in the national rankings, and is a great opportunity for guaranteed matches and experience against the country's best.

  12. Just because the ISWA State tournament Series is over doesnt mean we stop GETTING BETTER!!!!!!

If you are headed to Central Regionals, VA Duals, Body Bar, Disney, USAW National Duals or Fargo....you better be at an RTC!!!!

Today is no different.  Warren Central RTC tonight from 6-730!

State Champs, All-Americans, nationally ranked wrestlers, and just an overall tough room filled with the dedicated individuals looking for more.

    See you in a minute!

  13. Reminding the Indiana wrestling community that the best of the best will be competing at the Junior National Dual Championships in Oklahoma City the last week of June.  These are the top high school upperclassmen competing for their state in an attempt to win a national title.  All of the best states are there including Illinois, California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan, Texas and many many others.  At any time you may face a national champion, or Fargo All-American, or a nationally ranked ranked wrestler, time after time.  At any given moment you're gonna see Nickal, Valencia brothers, Norstrem, Russell, Thorn, Stroker, Millholf, Sebastian, Benick, etc. etc.  It's a great tune up for Fargo and you may have the opportunity to be nationally ranked at the conclusion of this tourney if one makes the Junior All-dual Team.

We are looking to take a full Freestyle Team and full Greco Team out there to do some damage and compete for a national title using Indiana's best!  There are more and more of Indiana's top studs giving their verbal commitments to join this team, which is essential and exciting.  But remember, the 2014 ISWA F/G champ in each style have the first right of refusal for 5 days concluding F/G state, so don't bank on your petition.  Win ISWA state to secure your spot!  Remember, this is the best of the best.

The camp will officially be at Hamilton Heights this year and it is also looking to be a nasty camp, featuring the entire Cadet and Junior Dual Teams, as well as some of Indiana's best clinicians including Tsirtsis, Vega, Bradley, etc.  I so desperately want to post a tentative line-up because of the excitement leading up to this and verbal commitments but the smoke hasn't settled yet.  We intend to get 7+ matches against the best and our only goal is a national title.  Start saving, fundraising, getting sponsors, or whatever you need to do in order to make this happen.  Gonna be a great time!!!!

More info coming soon.  Have a great week, Indiana!

  14. You think this is a game?!?! (In my DMX voice) It's going down tonight AGAIN at Warren Central's RTC!!!  From 6-730p come and fine tune your Olympic wrestling skills as we cover an evening of Freestyle and Greco.  Averaging 60+ kids with some of the state and country's best, get better at Warren Central RTC tonight!!!
