  2. HYWA needs to advertise tournaments better for them to have a chance to grow.  I had to hunt for the State tourney info and I only saw info on one qualifier.  The Venue for HYWA state is already outgrown also.  The quarter mats are horrible at their borderwars tournament, let alone a "state" tournament.  I commend Andy Hobbs for trying it, I think Peru is his home school.  However, for the sake of HYWA growing, it needs to move.  You already know about the medals.

I know the OURWAY program in OH and MYWA in MI have done well.  It would be great to see the same thing here.  I like the different age groups the best so we can see kids we do not usually see.  My child won this year against kids from the higher divison by USA guidelines and that was cool.

  3. Josh Stewart  was the dark-horse at novice 90lbs. This kid is tuff as they come. As a 5th grader he won all of his middle school matches. On Saturday March 7th won Adams Central Inv. and took 1st at evey tournament (never tested) they went to. Pinning some big nammed kids.Who do you think would win if Stewart and Crary meet at 90 at STATE?

I agree that it could be a good match but the outcome would probably change each time they met. At this age, there are not many that are consistent among wrestlers of similar skills. Sure, they dominate the average, but they are all nearly even at the top.  Look at the top placers from State in the 80-90 range:  Tucker, Morgan, Crary, Rypel, Shipley, Shurg, Bennett.  How many times have they beaten each other over the years?  I bet most of them are atleast 1:1 if not more.  Any given Sunday...  I know some thought there were a few "guaranteed" champs this past weekend that were upset.  The outcome between Tucker/Morgan, Rypel/Crary, Stewart/Baker, Stewart/Bennett, could be completely different if they went at it again.  Same applies to many others outside of the weight range that I am looking at.  Griffith/Hughes went 1:1 this weekend.

Has Stewart wrestled any of the other ones?  Didn't he lose to Griffith recently?

  4. Don't count out Sage Coy at 65.  Noah Warren should make top 8.

90 looks like it is getting good too.  I am leaning towards a Bennett/ Herrick finish although Van Horn, Ramsey, and Dow (if he is at 90) should be right up there.  There are a few more in there that can make it interesting.

I am looking forward to 80!

Too bad out predictions could be way off- these guys may not go where registered.

  5. Looks like it is turning out to be a great tournament right to hit right before State.  There are few loaded brackets already.  Hopefully everyone else registers and fills in the thinner ones.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to have something like this close to home.

  6. I don't recall seeing seeing split brackets at Freestyle state last year when they exceeded 22 wrestlers.

I just want to know why vertical pairing is being used for a folkstyle tournament.  I remember seeing on this board somewhere that there would be challenge for true second matches. How will that happen?  I don't see mine even being in the top 4, but I  want to understand the plan anyway.

  7. It would be great for all ISWA tournament directors to start making a habit of posting all of the results from their tournaments.  Maybe the great Franklin, Huntington, Penn, and Crown Point crews will start a new trend and post them  from this past weekend :)  I know many of the tournaments in IL and OH post complete results (or use Trackwrestling).
