"The Stick" told me that he'd be all over this message board except for the fact that Y2 permanently banned him for a difference of opinion. If you diasgree with Y2 or saying anything about him (even though he says things about other people i.e. Center Grove coaches at a Holiday Tournamnet), your message gets deleted or you get banned. (You're welcome "The Stick")
Blue Bolt, don't even bring me into this. I have had 6 different opinions on this tournament? What are you talking about? You get way too worked up over nothing. You are a very defensive person. Take a Xanax and chill!!! I'm sure you'll be in the stands tomorrow with your pad and pencil taking notes so you can make a detailed post when you get home. I like your fight for the "little guy" but be realistic. Central Sectional will have a lot more advance than the Castle Sectional overall. Talent level is much higher this year. Look at what happened at Team Regionals.

that was a problem with the old discussion board... if the moderators didnt like what was said, even if it was not abusive or foul, it would be removed... I dont see this board going that direction....
Not true. "The Stick" was banned from this site for bashing Y2. I have had comments deleted by Y2 b/c he disagreed with them.

Castle Sectional -- 17
Central Sectional -- 39
Could be + or -2 in either direction depending on some of the toss up matches like Oakley/Allen, Stock/Baehl, etc.
-
Here's what I got for the Castle Sectional moving on...
106 Brown...maybe Lutz
113 nobody
120 Welch
126 Coomer...will be good match with Hoehn
132 nobody...maybe Allen
138 nobody...maybe McDaniel
145 Singleton
152 Hawkins...good match with Dallas
160 Oser...maybe Koberstein
170 Burden?
182 Konerding, Martin
195 Halbig, Salkill
220 Boehm...Henrickson and Barclay possibly.
285 Breen
So you think Warren will lose to Peak? I think that's as much of a lock as any to move on. Should be another great match between him and King in the finals.
Baehl and Stock will be a good match at 113 IMO. I think Stock will pull it out in a close one but a win by Baehl wouldn't be a huge surprise.
Oakley will beat Allen if he can keep from getting thrown.
-
You referring to the same brother who placed at state and the same reservist who flunked off the team and then got beat (decisively) by that brother the next time they wrestled when he was eligible again? Just checking for clarity.
-
Rickenbaugh is a good wrestler. I think he might've gotten Sims if he had decided to wrestle. Rickenbaugh only has 3 losses.......all of them to C. Welch (impressively, all by major decision).
I overheard some coaches talking and heard them say that Sims had a "panic attack" and that's the reason he didn't report to the mat. It appeared as if Coach Schaeffer didn't even know what was going on. I wonder if that panic attack was set off by seeing double (reference to the Welch twins ;D)
-
So, I presume it is clear now to Grap41 that Sims is still battling with an injury. I do apologize for the insult, but I got a little indignant that you were claiming he was ducking competition. The kid has been a trooper for 4 years now, overcoming the death of his father just before the tournament his freshman year and placing at state his first three years (6th, 4th, 5th). The thought that he would have ducked out of a match (or two) because he was scared of the opponent is crazy. But then I guess you didn't know that. . .
So anyway, I would hate to be the regional champion that draws Sims first round next week :-[. He has to dig himself out of a hole now, but a healthy John Sims is capable of beating anyone in the field.
I disagree with the last part of your post. A healthy John Sims still wouldn't beat Welch in my opinion. He was 0-5 against the Welch twins last year. If Sims wins his first two matches next week at Semi-State, is he going to Inj. Def. the next two? He would meet Welch in the semis if both of them make it to that point.

Wright has always also improved since the season started. Mater Dei also has about twenty extra wrestlers on the bleachers ready to take over at a moments notice. Should be a great match.
There might be 20 wrestlers on the bench ready to go but 6 of them are wasting energy by even getting ready because you can only weigh in 28 wrestlers at Team State.
-
I respect the Yorktown coaching staff even less for this incident. Last year before team state, one of Yorktown's wrestlers (one of their "studs" nonetheless) got in trouble at school but still wrestled at Team State and helped them to a State Runner-Up finish. The word on the street is that this is not the Franklin wrestlers first offense so his suspension would be for 365 days for a second offense. Even if this kid shows up on your doorstep from another school, you KNOW the reason he is there. Have some morals and ethics and do the right thing.
I was going to mention the "Homegrown" t-shirts but someone already referenced it. That was the first thing I thought of when I started reading this thread.

I've heard that the Haire's win over Oser was an Injury Default win? Can MatMedic or Coach Thompson verify this information? If so, then Haire's #2 seed is a crock. Was this a conspiracy put together by HH and Boonville to put Warren in the same side of the bracket as Stein and hurt Castle's chances of winning the team title?
My Predicition: Haire will get 4th, wrestle Brandenstein in 1st round of regionals and be done. Justice will be served.
-
Forest Park is NOT in this sectional so I guarantee they won't place 3rd at 125.
I've heard that Haire from Boonville is going 171. Avoiding Welch by moving up to wrestle Stein, Warren, and Oser? Bad move if it's true.
Griesemer going back to 125 is a smart move on his part. Castle Regional at 130 alerady has Brown, Hoehn, Kelley, Mangold...yuck.

Some thoughts on the SIAC...
First, yes, the reffing was inconsistent at best, they seemed slow to react when kids were on their backs and very inconsistent when they were calling inbounds vs. out
@119, Van Hook deserved to get a stalling point from Welch, this match should have been battled in OT - can't wait to see these two match-up again
@ 125, the eye poke definitely changed the pace of the match, Moody didn't have that 1 point lead to play with, so he seemed at a loss as what to do after that...I have seen him wrestle several times this year already, and although I will say Moody is a good wrestler (great build for a 125 wrestler), his M.O. has been to get that escape and then circle and block against wrestlers evenly-matched with him (look at his matches, several are 1-0 wins)
@189, the reffing was horrible..backpoints before takedown, then no escape, but a takedown awarded...it took them forever to figure out where they went wrong...then a coach comes across from another mat, when there are already 2 Memorial coaches on the mat....it was crazy, but the removal of the 2 points was the correct call
Other thoughts....
The Welch Twins...so solid...not sure if anyone in this area can touch them - so skilled, only wish we could see them on the mat for longer periods of time...lol!
Central has got some solid wrestlers coming up...can't wait to see how they progress in the years to come...
Did you see how many Memorial wrestlers were going for 3rd & 4th? I know a lot of them were Seniors, but several of them weren't...they came in 2nd at the JV Invite @ MD...and if Coughlin continues to be one of their coaches, they will only get better and better
MD Freshmen finished 2nd & 3rd @ SIAC...not too shabby...and I'm not sure what was going on @ 171, but I don't expect that match will go that way again or that the score will be that close
Just loved how Castle fans cheered for anyone wrestling against MD ...some things never change!
Van Hook did not deserve a point for stalling. He did NOTHING the first and 2nd periods of the match. Nor did he do anything the last time these two wrestled. If he had pushed the pace and taken shots earlier in the match, I might agree with you but that was not the case. What do you mean you don't understand what happened at 171? Again, Brandenstein did nothing the whole match until he took a shot with about 30 seconds left. Warren took it to him. The call in the 125 match is what it is. The hands to the face and "eye poking" was a "point of emphasis" a few years ago and a lot of points were given for that same call. As stated earlier, Reitz gone some freebie points on that same call a few years ago. You know what they say about Karma! After he got that 1 point, henderson could coast the rest of the match. He could've been hit for stalling several times at the end of that match.
Had Wedding been healthy, Van Hook wouldn't have even been in the finals. Rueger looked really good.

Why in the world is this tournament already seeded? It's still 2 weeks away. Aren't some of these teams going to be wrestling between now and then? Maybe they will have some head to head matchups or record changes that could change the seeds? If you are going to seed a tournament, at least do it within 1 week of the tournament to get the most accurate seeds possible. This is silly!

Tomorrow should be a good day of wrestling with Mater Dei, Bloomington South, Castle, Jeffersonville, Jasper, and Greencastle.
Sounds like Mater Dei is the real deal this year. They'll probably walk through these teams tomorrow with Bloomington South, Castle, and Jeff fighting it out for 2nd place. Should be some great individual match ups though including Welch vs. Sims (Part 20ish)
What's everyone else think?
I hate to say I told you so but.....I told you so. My next prediction: Mater Dei wins state this year. They are solid top to bottom and I don't see anyone in Indiana with the firepower to beat them in a dual meet.
-
wrestlingguy: "Welch vs. Sims (Part 20ish)". It looks like Sims bumped up two weights to try his luck against the other Welch twin. A new saga begins?
I believe that John wrestled Chad early in the season last year before moving down to wrestle Doug the rest of the season. I wonder if the same will happen this year. Will Sims wrestle one Welch at 160 and then move down to 152 to wrestle the other?? They've always been good matches!

Josh "so hot, I" Flamme (hot as in "on fire" on the mat, of course)
Jimmy "I only need to win 4 in" Larowe to win a state title
Nick "better than Peyton" Manning
Quincy "a blue ring would make me really" Richey
Logan "go ahead and shoot because I can" Counterman
The Patrick Price is Right
Dylan "I'd rather have blue than" Green

A collar tie and a knee slap is NOT a shot. Those in MD singles have done that for years calling the "shots" but they are not legitiate shots. I completely forgot that they wrestled at Team Regionals also. Maybe Sims took 3 shots in that match that I didn't see which would, in fact, make it 4. In the 3 that I saw, he took a total of 1 SHOT! He did have about 10-15 knee taps though and 2 elbows thrown at Welch's face. Apparently he's as frustrated as you are. I hope John has a great weekend and we can see this stalling again under the lights Saturday night. Good luck to all Southern Indiana wrestlers.
-
Stalling? Stalling? Are you people crazy?? Didn't he tech two people at semi-state? Is that stalling? He stalls against Mater Dei? There's the pot calling the kettle black! I have seen Sims take ONE shot in the last 3 meeting (SIAC, Reg, and Semi-State). Is he stalling also? One shot in 18 minutes of wrestling. Did Sims take any shots when he wrestled Chad? I wasn't able to watch that one.

103: Brooks, Phillips, Petrov, Stevens,
112: Ayersman, Beck, Campbell, McKinley
119: Bradley, Hawkins, Nelson, Keifer
125: Wright, Napules, Raley, Bevans
130: Tsirtsis, Jackson, Schrader, Mullins
135: Barlow, Berryman, Norton, Hiestand
140: Porras, Brady, Johnson, Milton
145: Surma, Roach, Sims, Welch
152: Bennett, Welch, Stahl, Corpe,
160: Willis, McMurray, McCray, Quiroz
171: Stein, Duckworth, Wiseman, Brandt
189: Atwood, Sliga, Rosebrock, Thatcher
215: Cleveland, Lentz, Green, Froehlich
HWT: Travis, Thomas, Janney, Daugherty
You may want to rethink some of these if these are "in order". Atwood and Sliga are on the same side of the bracket as are Bennett and Welch. There might be more but these are two that I found that can't happen.

If you are referring to my "locks", you are incorrect. I did not miss 6. I missed 7. But I did get a WHOLE bunch of the qualifiers correct. The only real lock on my picks was that they were going to be wrong.
-
I agree that Asberger's should not be mocked or made fun of. I feel the comment was referring to the excuse given for Jacob Tonte getting in trouble at school and it not being his fault. It was that Asberger's fault that he caught dipping at school. Whomever posted this can reply if I am correct in this assumption or not.

Scales arrived just 10 minutes before weigh ins? I highly doubt that. I guess what comes around, goes around. Reitz pulled a fast one and got by with one at weigh ins. However, they only got through with 6 when the dust settled. Is that the lowest # of semi-state qualifiers for any top 10 team in the state? I guess in a weird way, justice was served. Mater Dei got 10, Castle 11, Memorial 7, and Heritage Hills 4.

I guess Coach Ferguson has more pull than people think. How he got them to send him to Castle and get him away from MD is amazing. It makes no sense to take two schools that are less than 2 miles apart and send them to different sectionals. What makes it even more mind boggling is Mt. Vernon has to drive right past both of those schools on their way to Castle. MD is now guaranteed to advance 14 to regional pretty much every single year. The balance of power in SW Indiana has definitely shifted to the Castle Sectional with Reitz, Memorial, Mt. Vernon and Harrison being traded for Tecumseh, Wood Memorial, Gibson Southern, and Princeton. MD may not like this though. The winner from Central Sectional will definitely have much tougher 1st round regional matches now.
