Team State Dual Tournament is a great tournament for the sport of wrestling. Why can't we move it after the state tournament so all the teams can participate? Don't we want to crown the champion?

I was there watching the match.
1) Rotating Refs is horrible.
2) If you are going to call stalling, call it both ways.
3) Fuqua was not stalling in either case.
4) Flamme was pulling his guy back in bounds with a sickly tight Iowa in. Ref called out of bounds. They were actually in bounds. The match would've been over.
5) Schurg has his kid flat with a sick cradle.
6) MD stalled the whole 2nd period in the 171 match. Didn't come off his hips once.
7) Score should've been 32-27 CP. Classic example of poor officiting.
8) CP kids looked good and made better mat decisions than any other team. That's hard to coach. Nice work CP
Thats the way I see it, but I'm a CP fan.

This will bring in some rating, but I wish they would've done Edgar and Maynard. They would be good coaches, and we could see lightweights go at it. Junior will have good coaches. Brock won't except for Marty. I like how GSP ran his... training with the guys, letting his coach coach.

I think some of you guys need to think about what you are saying first before you post it. You are talking about a kid; he is 16 years old--a kid, a young man. I don't think it is a great idea to talk about individual high school kids like this--regarless who they are. They aren't professional athletes. That's just my two cents.

I fist bump everyone and usually say something nice. Wrestlers do nasty things with their hands after a match. A kid just wiped his face and nose, and you want me to shake his hand? Let's start bowing... less germy. I am tried of being sick during season.

Lovin all the posts Michael!

How about the cost? 16 bucks is fine for me, but factor in a wife and a couple kids... 64 bucks. ouch!
-
I would have to say that this was the worst call at State. The big guys butt heads; that is their battle. Little guys scramble... big guys hand fight and fight for head position.
-
I won't count CP out at all. Both teams are good... CP has gotten alot better since the begining of the season.

Randy by decision.
Nate by KO.
Swick by KO.
Serra or Trigg? Who cares?

Maynard said he threw the game plan out the window in post fight interviews, but that is not really what I am arguing about. It seems like these "high level" grapplers would have better takedowns. Is this an individual problem or a BJJ problem? I don't know? Diaz and Mir would be fighters if they could take people down at will... instead of pulling guard or getting takendown. I've heard it said by BJJ people that BJJ teaches you to find a window where as wrestling teaches you to push through the wall. I personally think this is BS. Wrestling teaches you to stay in a good position and find a window... that is what I teach my wrestlers. I think BJJ teaches you to get in a bad position then get out of it (i.e. pull guard then sweep).
-
One other thing... pullin' guard isn't a takedown. It seems like a really bad idea to pull guard and then sweep. Why should you put yourself in a bad position and then work for a good position?
-
I don't understand how high level grappelers like Diaz, Mir, and others don't have the ability to take someone down. If both of these guys had takedowns, they would dominate others. This seems like a failure of BJJ. You should be abe to take someone down if you have a black belt in a form of grappling.

Thanks! I'm an idiot!

Anybody know?

I think fbi comments really show how thankless coaching can be sometimes. I don't know the situation, but coach is the coach for a reason. I knew who was going to win every wrestle I conducted before the wrestle off ever got started. Coaching is hard thankless work. Leave the coaches alone and let them do their job. It is their team to coach--not the parents.
