  1.

Can someone please explain to me how a wrestler undefeated in three years, state champ in last two gets a number 7 seed in semi finals. I'm not from the Lake Central Area but I'm talking about Gelen Robinson @ 220 lbs. What a joke !!!!!!

It would seem that everybody in the wrestling world knows that he's the one to beat except for the people who do the seating.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

This is the same for wrestling, basketball, etc.

Keep trying, maybe you will get a fact correct in one of your posts

    4. The center school shall furnish a complete fi nancial report to the IHSAA and

each partic ipating school 14 days after the completion of the tournament.

  6. The hosting school gets to keep 250 dollars for hosting a big regional or semi state.   All the other money goes down to the IHSAA.  Any profits they make come from concessions.  They do all the work organizing and staffing, and basically the ishaa gets the money.

I thought all regionals (top 4 from sectionals) and semi states (top 4 from regionals) were the same size!  Is Merrillville a larger Semi-State than New Castle, Fort Wayne and Evansville?

  7. I really hope people who don't honestly know the answer to this question don't try to answer it.  I do not know, myself.

  9. I don't think its a rerequirement to be a principal, maybe just school administration in general.  I believe a few of the assistants were former athletic directors prior to the job.  But, I agree it would help to find some wrestling friendly people to have a voice in the excecutive group and as board members.

Commissioner Bobby Cox Prior to joining the IHSAA, Cox had spent the previous 21 years as a teacher, coach, and athletic administrator in the Carmel Clay Schools.

Assistant Commissioner Robert Faulkens Faulkens had served as a member of the IHSAA Board of Directors since January 2009. He had spent 23 years in high school education including the last four as principal at Crispus Attucks

Assistant Commissioner Phil Gardner Gardner served 14 years as principal at Wes-Del and was a member of the IHSAA Board of Directors.

Assistant Commissioner Sandy Searcy Prior to joining the IHSAA, Searcy had been the girls? athletic director and girls? swimming coach at Bloomington High School North.

Assistant Commissioner Theresia Wynns Prior to joining the IHSAA, Wynns  had spent the previous 26 years as a teacher and administrator in the Indianapolis Public Schools and Warren Township Schools in Indianapolis

ABC High School ? Commissioner Ress reported the following action as a result of a violation of

(Seven softball players participated on same team after deadline).

FROM IOWA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION WINTER MANUAL

    END OF MATCH PROTOCOL

The wrestling coach?s advisory committee has recommended, and the Board of Control has approved, that the Athletic Association develop a standardized end of match protocol.

At the end of any match, the following protocol shall be followed:

    1. Referees should move quickly after a match to get in proximity of the two wrestlers to facilitate the handshake between the wrestlers and direct them to their respective team benches/corners.

    2. The wrestlers shall shake hands and the referee shall declare the winner by raising the winning wrestler?s hand.

    3. The wrestlers will then proceed to their respective team benches/corners without excessive celebration and without going to the opposing teams bench/corner.

    4. Post match handshakes with opposing coaches are not to be permitted.

This protocol certainly does not discourage teams from going through the congratulatory line at the end of a dual meet.

  14. 9-4 All Organized Athletic Contests are Considered a ?Contest?

Participation of students in an organized athletic contest during the contest season with or against players not attending their school constitutes a game.

  15. The size and undertaking of such an event was too much of a task and something that the IHSAA has a whole office to oversee, the IHSWCA lacks the personal to take on such a task, so any proposal that involves a qualifier of sorts is out of the picture

Hundreds of well run tournaments happen every year. DON"T try to re-invent the wheel! Use the IHSAA rules and have sites host that have run good tourneys in the past. Let the schools keep the profit for hosting.

  17. Yes my point exactly.  When I was looking into this last year when we had a larger team and also when other schools were wanting to send a V2 squad to our meets this is what Bobby Cox emailed me.

    ...

    Tyson,

Each member school constructs schedules for each of their sponsored teams in each sport.  With regard to wrestling, a team may participate in a maximum of 18 dual meets.  That rule is applicable to every team the school fields and every individual within the program. Given your example, you may send your varsity team to a tourney and that event will count as two dual meets on the team?s total schedule and two meets for every individual that participates in the event.  The same holds true for every school sending teams to any sanctioned event.

    .

    Thank you,

    Bobby Cox

    Assistant Commissioner

    IHSAA

    ............................................................

When I asked him to clarify so I wasn't misunderstanding him..........

    ............................................................

    Tyson,

The Association?s main concern is that no student athlete participate in more than 18 dual meets during the regular season and no team schedule has exceeded that number.  I believe it is bad practice for a school to create a second varsity team.  The reality of that is it is nothing more than a junior varsity squad.  I can?t imagine any coach not placing his best 14 wrestlers in any meet on the schedule that is deemed to be a varsity meet.  The practice of having ?multiple varsity? teams is deceitful and stands as a disservice to your sport and verges on unethical.

    Sincerely,

    Bobby Cox
