Print media for high school sports is almost a lost cause. The money issue and the growth of online news sources has radically changed the way that news is covered these days. While I am saddend at the demise of newspapers in cities both large and small (gotta have a crossword fix in the morning), I am grateful for this website and the information that I get from the fine people who moderate and contribute to get my Indiana wrestliing fix. Maybe that is why indianamat.com was mentioned during the IHSAA webcast of the finals and the local paper was not.

I would think an adult would wear casual business clothes and be comfortable all day. The jeans would not really bother me that much, but it would tell me a lot about the coach. I will just say this:
THANK GOD THE PROTOCOL FOR WRESTLING IS NOT LIKE BASEBALL.

Every kid I've had quit was over a girl, work or laziness. Most were girls though (both the reason they quit and what I thought of them).
I would seriously suggest you take some time to ask yourself why you are coaching. I think that we fail to see that these kids are indiviuals and that they will all react differently to parental and coaching attempts at motivation. It would be nice if we could teach each youngster in the same way and get the same results but that is a fantasy land. Maybe we need to listen more to what we say to the kids and listen even more to them and encourage them instead of calling them names.
I am sure that every kid who ever quit wrestling did so because of a girl, work, or laziness. It couldn't possibly be the thought that spending one more second listening to a jerk of a coach makes their skin crawl and their intestines twist. It has to be a problem with the kids. :

I would be curious to see the percentages in regards to each state champ. What was the precentage that picked each of the champions. I suppose some would be in the high 90%'s....others would be more interesting.

After watching the Wright/Eppert match today I am going to say this for the record........
This is no longer a rivalry! Wright will never lose to Eppert again. PERIOD!

The process is, indeed, anonymous. Coaches are given a scratch sheet and, if they desire to scratch an official, can do so. I still think the ultimate responsibility lies with the coach if he feels that strongly about not having an official call any of his matches.
So you are ok with the public humiliation of the official?

I am not sure if a coach would be making a smart move or not by not allowing a match to start if the powers that be missed a call to "scratch" a ref. I would have to know if this process is anonymous for the coach before the meet starts. If it is an anonymous move (and it should be) then the sense of anonymity goes out the window as the coach approaches the table and the ref is removed. I am sure that if this happens and the coach goes to the table and makes his wishes very public, the ref who is replacing the scratched ref would be very aware that one of his peers has just been publicly embarassed. I doubt that any of the refs would hold a grudge in this case in defense of a fellow official, but there would always be that doubt in the air. I would have to put the responsibility back on the tournament officials in this case, not the coach.

What a way to go out during an undefeated season. Get well soon young man and look at this as a possible bright side...
Has anyone ever gone four years without a loss and only won three titles?
Could be the answer to a great trivia question down the road...

Washington Township in Indy (North Central High School) requires a 2.0 GPA to participate in athletics. You could have all C's and one C- and be ineligible. Any other districts/schools that strict?
I believe that Indianapolis Public Schools have the same guidelines.

I think you are right. In fact, I am sure there are dads all over the land with a saw in one hand and their pee wee age sons in the other. I am betting we will see a huge increase in the number of amputees at the ISWA meets soon. (this is sarcasm)
