If you wrestled at ISWA Folkstyle State you are qualified to wrestle at Folkstyle Nationals in Iowa.  It's about participating and not about placing.

First of all, i would like to say this was one of the better tourneys that we have been to.  Although, my wife seen something at the tourney that upset her very much.  This dad was really yelling and chewing out his kid, he grabbed him and shock him.  A lady tried to step in to calm the situation and he attached her verbally also.  Then the mother of the kid verbally attached the lady (close to fighting).  All of this was not only in front of their kid about about 50 others also.  I informed a Center Grove guy and he sent over the cop that they had rented to take care of the situation.  It is pretty sad that a cop has to be rented at these events just to make sure the kids are safe.  She would like me to remind everyone that this is just for fun for these kids.  Its not like they are going after the world title or something, there are no college recurites to impress.  They are there learning and getting mat time, not only learning about wrestling but about good sportsmanship.  These days more of this should be taught and it looks like not just to the kids but to parents to. You will win some and loss some but in the end they are still your child, and they look up to you.

The security we had at the tournament was part of the high school security team.  He said that the biggest issues he had all day were with parent's treatment of their kids after a match.  This is a concern across the State.  Thanks for informing our security and we appreciate the kind words about our tournament.

Center Grove is hosting their Beginner's Tournament on Sunday Feb. 27th.  If you are wanting fax your weights in for the tournament, please email Keith Adams at adacoinc@comcast.net to get the necessary paperwork.  We will have onsite registration and weigh-ins on Saturday, Feb. 26th from 3-6pm at Center Grove H.S.  Enter door #3.  Registration is $12.00 cash only.  Please have your ISWA card with you.  You may purchas cards on Saturday as well. Wrestling will start at 9am on Sunday and we will be using matside pairings.

There is no need for insults.  People, calm down.  Look, it really is not a complex decision.  

 

Most people I speak with in the ISWA say matside pairings and staggered start times will happen for all tournaments soon.  They also say that a few traditionally minded pairings people, with a lot of influence, are holding up everyone.  I am optimistic the improvements will happen soon, but just how soon is the only question.

 

For the future of the ISWA, I hope the directors and officers make the alterations now.  There are plenty of sharp and intelligent ISWA officers and directors and hopefully they can get the few traditionally minded people to move forward, or out vote them, or simply say "this is the way we are going to do it."

I'm an officer of the ISWA and a top pairings person as well, and I'm not sure who you are talking to, but the ISWA is moving forward with changes.  And by the way no emails have been coming our way to step up and pair.  Come on people, what are you afraid of???

Help me out a little - where can you find out how to do matside pairings?  I'm talking about the how to's.

There will be a pairings clinic dealing primarily with matside pairings at the ISWA Little Guy State tournament at Ben Davis on Friday March 11th from 7-9pm.  If you would like more information prior to that clinic, email me at rjschoettle@sbcglobal.net.

ISWA is making changes according to what we have been hearing in the past from parents.  We are always listening and trying to make accommodations in order for our tournaments to run smooth and efficiently.  Matside pairings are popular in the Central Indiana and surrounding areas with most clubs north and south not appearing ready to take the plunge.  The ISWA has offered to go to local club tournaments to assist their pairings area with the matside pairings.  The phone is not ringing off the hook.  As previously posted, some local clubs prefer to run their tournaments their way still following sanction guidelines. People want change, but few are stepping up to help in the pairings area.  At a tournament where there is a pairing room a handful of pairers can run the tournament.  At a matside pairing tournament a pairer is needed at every mat.  If you are a competent pairer, one pairer can run two mats.  There are fewer pairers in the State of Indiana today than there were in previous years.  Who is willing to step up and learn?  Line bracketing is easy.  Vertical pairing is challenging but can be easily mastered.  For the parents who would like to see this change happen quicker, please email Jean Whetsone at  jeanne752@yahoo.com or Pat Culp at  patculp@hotmail.com  and let them know you would like to be a part of the solution. They are the head pairing officials for the ISWA.   ISWA is planning on having matside pairings at all of our State Tournaments.  The more pairers we have the better the tournament will run.  Have your club's head pairer contact one of these ladies. Obviously MYWAY's and HYWAY's parents have stepped up, where are the ISWA's parents?  See you at the State tournaments!
