  1. I'm going to hit this again because I can't believe more people are not viewing this.

It tells me a lot of why we lost it - no body cares - except if it might favor my teams chances.

I don't get how so many people are into this new IHSWCA Team Tournament next year that is invite only.

How can anybody accept that we lost a IHSAA sactioned team tournament that every team in Indiana had a chance to participate in?

Now we can have our own tournament, by invite only,  and say a state champion is decided. And we like that?

Because its proposed as class now?

All the criteria is based on what a team did this year. Who knows what weight a kid will be next year, who knows what team will come out of the shadows and be really good and not make it based on last year multiplier effect.

If you think the old system was flawed, so is this system.

Who really cares if you win the IHSWCA team dual tournament and not the IHSAA sactioned tournament?

The only tournament that matters is the IHSAA STATE Tournament and the Blue Ring!

So like Ive said before this is no more than another Super Dual tournament championship and that is that.

This is just my opinion. We should have fought harder to keep OUR Team Dual Tournament sanctioned by the IHSAA.

It is something that we lost and I don't think will ever get back until the IHSAA decides to change it.

I don't think they will because the other individual sports have a team champion, so why give us a team champion in both individual and team. They don't care about class in individual sports, until they want to.

If we think that down he road we can propose a team tournament to the IHSAA based on this tournament you are crazy. They first argument will be, yes you have had a class team tournament, but not all schools are included.

The IHSAA will ask how can we do this with all our members included?

Thats the problem - if we could have kept it, we might have been able to eventually got a class team dual tournament added to the one that we had. Now its gone so we have nothing to build on.

In a perfect world I guess class team state would be part of it, but its not.

I think class is the biggest reason team state was not fought for by our coaches.

A lot of coaches felt they never had a chance, so who cares.

The only problem is now we have nothing to build on. If we still had Team State we might have something to build on.

I have no problem with Team State as it was, and I have no problem with fighting for a class team state.

Its gone now so we have nothing to fight for, like it was or class.

I will support the IHSWCA TEAM STATE , but I think it is going to go no further than just another glorified super dual.

We should have not let it go so easily. We played right into the IHSAA's plan.

    That's just my opinion

I'm just quoting this because I agree.  This year was my first time ever going to watch team state.  It was an awesome thing to watch, the gym was packed and energetic, it was good for the sport.  It is a shame that it is gone.

  2. Brandenstein(MD) at 171 and VanWinkle from MD at 285 beat both the ranked kids from Jasper.  Weinzapfel(MD) at 145 lost to Farmer from BS.  Lannert frm MD destroyed Mann from Castle and then won in OT over Boyd from BS.

Tucker, 171 from Jasper, didn't wrestle yesterday due to injury.

  3. This has already gotten past the point of being absurd.  If you want to go that route, Jasper has a contract to wrestle with every team there.  So we (Jasper) could either not wrestle one team or illegally wrestle 6 times tomorrow.  Which wold you prefer?  There was a simple mix up.  We were under the impression that Forest Park was not going to be coming this year, so we signed a contract with Greencastle.  Forest Park had one more year on the contract and decided they wanted to stay in for one more year to honor the contract.  Its nobodies fault and its NOT a big deal.  Things will go back to normal next year when forest park is no longer in the meet.  But for this year, every team simply cannot wrestle every other team. It is ONE year.  We will be back to wrestling every one of these teams next year.

It really makes no sense to me why people on here are acting like it would be fine for us to not wrestle either Forest Park or Greencastle when we have a contract with them as well.  Are they less important? Because that is the attitude I am sensing on this board. I think everyone would be better served if they concentrated on the tough competition that they DO have tomorrow instead of worrying about who they don't have.

For the people that say that we duck good competition, have you even looked at our schedule?  The first week of our schedule we see four of the top 12 teams in the state.  In a couple of weeks we will hop on a bus and drive to Mishawaka for, in my opinion, the best individual tournament in the state.  If we wanted to avoid tough competition and inflate our records, I am sure that there are easier and closer tournaments that we could go to.  Not only do we face plenty of ranked teams throughout the year, we also face plenty of tough unranked teams (Heritage Hills, Princeton, Mount Vernon, Jeffersonville etc.)  One year of not wrestling Castle doesn?t change that. I have a lot of respect for Castle?s wrestling program.  In my four years of coaching at Jasper I have never had any bad experiences with Castle coaches or fans.  Lets not change that by acting immature.

  5. I know this is being talked about in other threads, but I decided to start a thread about it.  Did anyone else think that the stalling calls in the finals were called a lot slower than in the regular season?  I remember when I first started watching college wrestling, I was surprised at how quick stalling were called. I thought it was good that people were forced to wrestle. However, in the finals they allowed people to backpedal to the boundary without a stalling call.  I understand that the officials don't want to determine the match, especially when they get under the big lights.  But, it seems like it was allowed to go out of control this tournament.

  6. You don't hold up fingers and sprint away from a guy and do a backflip with time left on the clock.  That was extremely poor sportsmanship.  They both should have been hit for misconducts.  I'm kind of glad metcalf shoved him, because I wanted to.  But, that doesn't mean it was right.

  7. I don't see Baker beating Woods.  Not to take anything away from Baker, he is a heck of a wrestler.  But I have never seen anyone dominate a defending state champ like Woods did last year against Malone.  It was funny watching the guys in the consoles go out of bounds and taking forever getting back to center because they were watching Woods take Malone down easily.  Speaking of Woods, is he wrestling in college anywhere?

I think my Southern Indiana bias is showing...

  9. I'm glad to see Alex White (Mount Vernon) on the opposite side of the bracket from Chalfant.  I think that would make one of the most exciting finals at HWT that we have seen in a while.  White really impressed me at the Evansville Semi-State this past weekend, he is quicker than expected and has good technique.  I am picking him over Chalfant in th finals.

  10. What fun is good sportsmanship??? kidding

In all seriousness though, you are always going to have a few bad apples.  There is always going to be a rude coach, wrestler, parent, fan.  But, the overall majority of these people are respectful and show good sportsmanship, so its not really fair to act like we all need to shape up.

  11. I had no interest on who won the match, except for the five bucks I lost based on point spread.  :'(  I just went to the meet to see some great wrestling.

    Some of my thoughts:

-The match was the most intense one I have ever been to.  I thought that both teams really came out with a fire in their belly to win.  Castle was just the better team that night and maybe wanted it a little bit more.

-The refs did a decent job, except when it came to stalling calls.  The stalling calls favored MD heavily.  I wish I would have kept a tally on stallings just to see if it was as lopsided as it seemed to me.  At one point a Castle wrestler took two straight shots and then was hit with a stalling call.  They were really inconsistant with them the whole night.  That was especially apparent when it came to round 2 and the same ref who kept hitting Castle for stalling wouldn't hit Jeffersonville when he didn't attempt a takedown for two periods.

-The castle people standing next to the rail weren't that bad during the MD/Castle match.  They were fired up and on the officials for every single call, which I don't mind in a close match against your rival.  As long as there isn't profanity being thrown out, and I didn't hear any.  They did get bad when it came to the Castle/Jeffersonville match.  The mat was moved to the center so the people had to yell louder to be heard half way across the gym.  Toward the end it was obvious that Castle was going to win, and the people standing by the rail were still being just as loud and on the official on every little call.  I guess you can do what you want, but I would have refrained by that point.  But this was only 2 or 3 people, so its not that big of a deal.  Castle brought a lot of people and most of them were fine.

-MD should not feel ashamed for their performance this year, they should be proud of what they accomplished.  They wrestled well all year, and got beat by a really good team.  It happens in all sports.  There have been plenty of times that a good football team has beaten an opponent during the regular season, then lost in the playoffs.  Just because you didn't win state, doesn't mean your season was a failure.  If most teams in the state accomplished what you did this year, they would consider it the best season their program has ever had.

-If I were a Castle fan I would be pumped right now.  After seeing their loss to MD earlier in the season, I didn't think they had a prayer against them in regional, I was wrong.  Castle came out like a team on a mission.  Their guys fought for every point and refused to give up an easy takedown. Keep that intensity up and you have a great chance at bringing home a state title.  I think this is a positive thing for all of southern Indiana wrestling.  Other programs around southern Indiana have spent years being overshadowed by MD domination.  It will be good to get another team state exposure. So go get em Castle, bring a state title home!!!
