  1. I just want to reference the comment of Griffith having 3 studs. That is pretty impressive but you forget that there happend to be added another State champ they had in Jose Escobedo. Having 4 state champions that year is pretty impressive. Lets also consider the rest of the playing field of the individuals who won state and look at where they are at now!!! Reece is at the top of his game at Ohio State as well as Angel at IU.

  3. Brawlers once again wrestled Team Ohio and came up short in winning the dual. That put them  wrestling for 5th and 6th. Team Georgia battled back after their first  loss to the Brawlers  into a position for the opportunity to avenge their earlier 33-32 nail biter.  A few changes of weight classes in the line-ups and some of the earlier matches going the other way kept the tension of the whole meet right down to the last match. With the score ending in a 38-38 tie. Brawlers won the meet in criteria of most victories. That placed the Brawlers in 5th earning All-American.

  4. Brawlers were in a real dogfight with Team Georgia and went right down to the wire to pull it out 33-32. And went on to Wrestle Team Pennsylvania Gold and came up short. Brawlers will be wrestling later this morning. Updates wil be coming later.

  5. Brawlers finished their pool 4-1 with wins today over Team North Carolina and Illinois and  lost to Team Ohio. Qualified for the Gold Tournament. First round of the tournament to start tonight. Brawlers vs. Team Georgia. GO Brawlers!!!!!!

  6. Great room !! Took advantage and traveled to the CAVE. Left with a couple black eyes myself and then I noticed a couple wrestlers from the prior weeks supporting some well earned stitches in their heads. Great work-out.

As far as the singlet thing goes. Lets just let the coach from Vision Quest support that and after you see it you will understand why coaches dont wear singlets!!!!!!!!! :)

  7. Good Point Steve, I also would like to see it allowed that  wrestlers to move up an age group. Of course within reason, such as only second year wrestlers in their respective division to be able to compete in the division above.

Indiana's HYWA does allow this, and in other states  like Michigan's MYWA.  I know everyone really enjoys going to wrestling tournaments waiting 2 hours and then finally wrestling the same kids you have wrestled last week and the week before. even moving up a weight class  you have wrestled these same kids over and over again.

I understand that liability is the issue but if you look at some of the school systems where 5th graders are allowed to compete on the middle school teams because the school facilities are 5th to 8th grade.

  8. Of course the top of the list for me is Mathew Modine 1985 Vision Quest. The language in the movie is not best suited for younger kids although I have let my own watch it. Very motivational movie and music. You can order this from Wal-Mart on-line.

Another one that I have seen that someone mentioned is  a Robert Urich 1989 "Spooner". This was a Disney made for TV Movie and is not released on VHS or DVD however I do have a burned copy from TV. It is about a man who in his younger high school days was a state champ wrestler in Pennsylvania that went on to wrestle in college but was put in prision for forgery and Then uses his talents to escapes from prison. He becomes a high school teacher and wrestling coach. Real good movie.

I have recently read a book called "Nearfall" by Joe Reasbech who is from Wisconsin and wrestled for the University of Minnesota. The book is about the Dean brothers ; Matt and Mike and growing up wrestling. He second book in the series is currently at the printers and he hopes this will  eventually become a movie.

  9. Good to hear from the Northwest Reporter.

And it sounds like CP was a good bracket.  *Congrats Jake , Drew and Jason .*

We wrestled at Penn this past weekend. There was only 2 wrestlers at Novice 75lbs and I am not sure who won that. At Novice 80 there were 8  wrestlers. Tyler placed first over Daniel Hesch. Jay Franco placed 3rd also wrestling in 80 were Jacob Krause, Levitz of Praire Heights and Luke  Sinkovics of Mishawaka.

Gage Marcuccilli won the Novice 85lbs.

  10. I have been waiting for some sort of post from Tucker for some time, He usually furnishes pretty good information and is up to date. What the heck Shane, You fall off the face of the earth or what?

  11. Only in Greco and Freestyle is it  required in the rule book about only wrestling in your age division. In folkstyle rule it is not. This issue was brought up last year in a tournament and because of it not being stated in the rule book it has to be allowed.  As of now it still hasnt been changed or addressed.

  12. This is a subject talked about all the time. And their is no easy answer as each wrestler is different. And that is how it should be handled. But I have noticed with hard work their is sucess in some form or another. It is how you measure it.

I have also noticed there is not an option tin the poll that has anything to do with school work. I have made many friends through wrestling and these same parents that do push their kids in wrestling also  pushed  their kids in school as well.
