  1. The powers to be need to figure it out! Like all sports wrestling is a seasonal sport. The big numbers come from novice down, almost all little boys play baseball in the spring. Freestyle and Greco are dying  you cant keep sugar coating it.  I can?t remember how many tournaments that were canceled this year to lack of numbers. The only tournaments that went on had three styles and folkstyle was the one that made the tournament run, while freestyle and greco were 10.00 dollar medal give away for showing up. Folkstyle wrestling is what the United States is all about we all wrestle folkstyle from peewee to college.

  2. This type of tournament should had larger or full wrestling surfaces for the larger kids at least. Dividing up the mats in the small gym  into 4 areas was wrong, kids were falling all over each other and thats not including their parents. Several matches would have ended differently if full mats or larger areas was being used. Refs made some bad calls on kids being out of bounds especialy on mat 7 and 8 not consistant at all but then again maybe alarger surface might have helped.

  3. I think that middle school state should be 14 & under! I certainly don't think

We should have 2nd year cadets wrestling a novice in the 6th grade. Also, I think

that you should only be able to compete 3 years at middle school state. Regardless

Of what grade they were held back in! As a parent, I would be ashamed of myself for

Entering my kid as a second year cadet for a MIDDLE SCHOOL TOURNAMENT! I think

If the IHSWCA would make these rule changes, that would help with mommy & daddy

Holding their kids back for athletic reasons alone. I don't knock children being held back.

As long as they actually need it. However, I still believe that a child who is held back should

only be able to wrestle 3 years at middle school state.

Coach Hunt @ Doe creek middle school

But,The IHSWA is just like the ISWA their afraid of change. They should never be a novices wrestling 2nd year cadets.
  4. First, has with all sports their season ends with the start of another sport, almost every kid 13 years old and below plays baseball in the spring. Football ends in October for this age group why not move the start of folkstyle back to start in first of November? or move freestyle and greco to start November? either way its better than wrestling in May.Wrestling season for this age group needs to end in March, combine their state tournament $35 for one style or $70 for all three then the numbers will rise. As for the High School kids their window is very narrow freestyle and greco needs to be done a month after the high school season ends. Lets all face it hardly nobody is turning out for tournments in April and May. Nobody wants to travel  an hour or two and pay $10-15 dollars for a medal and not wrestle.

  5. From, what I'm reading Middle School State is nothing short of a joke. If we're putting legit novice and schoolboy aged kids up against cadets, this makes these so called 15 year old champions no more than frauds. If you're holding a kid back for athletic reasons, than your trying to live what you couldn't accomplish through your kid!! Wake up people with our Man Mitch cutting schools the way he's doing we are going to be lucky to keep wrestling in Indiana. Let's not give the Mitch and the administrators any more ammunition to use against us.

  6. Matty I find it very humorus that you feel the need to send me private messages telling me how it is obvious that I can't even form a sentence, and then make a post like the one above with all the spelling and grammer errors. Before you start  trying to slam people about their intellegence level, you may want to make sure you are doing a better job yourself.

I also find it funny that you guys are so defensive because you know what was said is correct and you guys set kids out that attend your club regularly for a title. That is classy, and really shows support for your team. It shows that you are doing this for your own self satisfaction and nothing for the kids. I hope these same kids that you did this to return the favor in high school and show you the exact same dedication that you have shown them.

Here are the facts from the posts above.

4 kids not part of your school system or club as stated above. That is 22% of your team. That doesn't count the private club kids that you recruited for this specific meet. So we are looking at 30 to 40 percent of your team was not legit. I also like how you are all about the kids, but if not for this one meet, you would not have had anything to do with bettering these kids wrestling career that you brought in. In fact I was told that you didn't even coach these kids in the meets, and you had to let their private coach do the honors. You want to act like you are all about the kids, but tell the truth, what have you done for these kids before this (which was to benifit you and your ego. Not the kids.)

You also keep mentioning that we should just be thankful the ISWA put this on. I have never one time said that I wasn't appreciateive for everything they do for the kids. i am very greatful for them and everything they do. They ahve nothing to do with this post. This is just your way to try to change the subject and get past the fact that you left kids out of this event, so you could get the title you obviously never won yourself as a kid.

O-C-W first off, I didn't even have a dog in the fight I was simply saying if the ISWA made a mistake they will and should fix it, If not maybe another organization will. The IHSWCA might be the answer, they do the middle school duals, and it goes well and you don't even need a card to wrestle. Next move the date ahead a month when wrestling is going in schools, I'm willing to bet that half if not more schools dont even start their elementry wrestling till after Christmas break. Just think of the teams that might show up, instead of 9 teams could you amagine 20+. Then maybe we would have a true champion.
  7. First, Hywa is trying to better wrestling in Indiana, by keeping cost low. Not everbody can afford 30 dollars for a cards and tournaments, especially in this economy. Second over half the kids don't even bother to wrestle after folkstyle state anyway just look in the book.

  8. Hopefully, the ISWA will learn from this mistake and close the loop hold for next year. If the wrestler doesn't attend the school system then he is out!! a simple fix to an over looked mistake. If you don't have a wrestler for a weight take the forfit and go on. Remember its about the kids, not the coaches and clubs !!
