North Montgomery is looking for a tournament/6 way for January 11th. If anyone has an opening contact me at mswain@nm.k12.in.us
-
Yes, this year the tournament will be all duals. We lost 3 teams which will not allow us to run the tournament using the original format (dual tournament on day one and individual tournament on day two).

Top teams have never been been known to bump their lineups around when it would benefit them...
You are right.. We would probably move our line up around a little bit next time..
-
And Yorktown won by pin in each one of those 3 weight classes.. Two matches in which North Montgomery was ahead when we were pinned.. So technically the score would not have changed even if the three guys they had out would have wrestled..

North Montgomery 24 Yorktown 39
Yorktown wins 8 matches.. North Montgomery wins 6

North Montgomery has paid assistant opening. If interested, contact me at mswain@nm.k12.in.us

As the tournament host, I agree that it's unfortunate for a wrestler to go undefeated but not win an individual award. Historically, and again this year, the tournament was set up to be a two day event with eight teams. In this set up, all teams wrestle each other over the two day period. This year New Palestine dropped out with limited notice and we were unable to find a replacement team. Despite the late drop out, the tournament was still scheduled as a two day event. However, at the request of several coaches, we changed it to a one day tournament to accommodate their wishes. The problem with a seven team, one day dual tournament is that in order for all teams to get at least five matches, one team must wrestle all six rounds. This poses a problem because according to IHSAA rules, individuals are only allowed to wrestle five matches per day. Perry Meridian graciously offered to wrestle all six rounds with their JV wrestling one round. As a result of the last minute change to a one day tournament, the possibility exists for two wrestlers to go undefeated. Perry Meridian chose to wrestle their JV against Warren Central. When two power house teams don't wrestle their varsity against each other, the chances increase of multiple wrestlers in the same weight class going undefeated. Coaches understood that this could happen and were still in favor of the one day tournament. If we had the traditional two day tournament, this situation would not have occurred.
We are exploring the option of making this a 16 team individual tournament for next year.

For those interested, below is the schedule for this years tournament. It will be a one day tournament on Friday December 28th, which is different than years past. Each team will wrestle 5 matches excluding Perry Meridian who will wrestle 6 matches. Perry's varsity will wrestle 5 matches and their JV will wrestle 1 match chosen by their staff. Each remaining team will wrestle 5 of the other 6 teams. So each team will not wrestle one other team.
For anyone fans planning on attending the tournament, remember that it is a ONE DAY tournament this year!!

Increasing Attendance

As an early Christmas gift, we gave away over 200 wrestling shirts to any students or teacher in our school. We also gave shirts away to any student that attended our one and only home dual meet. During the season, there were days where I would see 20-50 of the shirts being worn by students and teachers. Even since the season has ended, I still see atleast 5-10 North Montgomery wrestling shirts being worn around school each day. High School kids like free stuff. Great advertisement for your program.
