Lopez, Lentz Step Up for UFC 103 Bouts; Neer in for Sherk at UFC 104By Thomas
Lightweight prospects Steve Lopez and Nik Lentz will step into the Octagon for the first time on September 19th, as they replace the injured Thiago Tavares and Dan Lauzon, respectively, on the UFC 103 card at Dallas? American Airlines Center.
South Bend, Indiana?s Lopez (12-1) will take on Jim Miller, and Minnesota?s Lentz (19-3-1) ? a native of El Paso, Texas ? will battle Rafaello Oliveira.
Said Lopez of his bout against Miller, ?He?s a very tough, well rounded opponent, and he?s very game. Between the two of us we have had 29 professional fights and neither of us has been finished. It?s going to be a war.?
Lentz, who trains out of Minnesota Martial Arts Academy with the likes of Brock Lesnar and Sean Sherk, is equally excited about his Octagon debut, saying, ?This is something I have wanted to accomplish for a long time and I?m glad it?s about to happen.?
In other injury news, a separated shoulder has forced Sherk, the former UFC lightweight champion, out of his UFC 104 bout in October against Gleison Tibau. Jumping into the fray to take on the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace on October 24th at Los Angeles? STAPLES Center is hard-hitting Iowa veteran Josh Neer.
Tickets for UFC 103 and UFC 104 are on sale now

Best individuals from each semi-state.......and made a team which semi-state would win?
-
i look forward to see steven wrestling at the next level where ever he decides to go!
-
Where is he planning on going now?
So the word is that Sandefer backed out with UIndy.
-
Now that the passing game is going to get better for the Bears. Already having a solid run game that will get better when they can throw the ball and there D being able to sit and rest. The Bears are going have a heck of a TEAM.
-
Do either of you guys know amount of place winners and what they placed at state coming from FW semi-state?
-
Since I promised this data and you probably wouldn't see it in the topic, here it is.
Schools Students Per School #Big Schools # Small Schools
Merrillville... 74... 76630.... 1035.54... 40... 34
Fort Wayne..77... 64127... 832.82... 31... 46
Evansville ...86...74628....... 867.77... 53... 33
New Castle..74... 90576... 1224.00... 28... 46
This is the semi-state breakdown by schools and students. The Fort Wayne semi-state actually has 10K less than Evansville.
So according to your statistics the FW semi-state is you guys have an advantage as a small school to get your wrestler to semi-state right because there are allot more small school and New Castle has the most so they should always have the most individual champs right or Evansville Because they have bigger schools?.......yes you can look at the numbers and make a case but looking to deep into something and trying to back you opinion with numbers doesnt make it RIGHT.......not saying i am right either! You have you opinion and I have mine!

everyones a winner...........!
-
How many differant Champions have we had.........and yes MD was ranked national when they won too along with Calumet this year correct?
How many differant schools made it to team state in last10 years and list the amount of times please?

I think having kids wrestle all 3 teaches them something though.......i was horrible at greco because i didnt like to throw but my coach had us do all 3 because if you needed that throw what were you going to do. But wrestling freestyle used to be my fav. because the action. Its much faster paced most of the time because of most the time spent on your feet it helped when i got to high school with takedowns.
-
I agree i think the number of kids doing freestyle has went down which also plays to the same teams having success year in year out......some programs are getting more into summer wrestling again but thats where indiana high school teams have had success before and what will show in the future!
-
Most kids when they are in high school might play 2 sports few play 3.........but thats up to the kid. Will the kids that play 2 sports be great at either maybe you have those kids that just are athletic but if most kids put in time at one sport will they be great much better chances. Not the person to tell someone to not play another sport.....allot of things actually help like football and baseball can help wrestler out with reaction time and differant areas. But mat time is like nothing else. How many D I, D II , or D III kids play 2 sports not a lot.
-
So if someone plays baseball that awesome the still can go to differant tourneys and practises during the summer. They have all kinds of wrestling camps.....and we used to practise in our basement. Nothing to organized but still the more mat time the more successful you will be if its quality invested time.
-
I understand why people want class wrestling.....but look at the schools that had a large number of people going to state. Those schools like MD, LN, Mishawaka, Portage, Bellmont, Yorktown, Beech Grove, Peru, etc..... these schools all have great summer programs. When your kids are putting in time in the off season it shows when it comes around to in season. Do all the kids from smaller schools put in that effort. I am here to say NO because I wrestled at a small school and during the season they would come to practise and work hard but off season came and they did other things. There are some kids on the team that would but then you are not wrestling the best everyday. The coaches are the ones who have to get these kids into summer wrestling.
