  1. I don't really think it proves much. But this is a really rare occurrence. If I had to compare it to another rare feat in sports, it would be the un-assisted triple play in baseball. I mean come on! How often do you see things like this in sports.

You can't schedule an un-assisted triple play but you can schedule poor competition, which is what this is. Wrestling is about a challenge not about humiliating your opponent.

  2. This is a nice idea from a fans perspective but lets not forget that these coaches are working with sweaty/dirty wrestlers. To expect these coaches, who make next to nothing to begin with, to ruin a good suit, sports coat, or slacks shows a lack of understanding of what wrestling coaches do.

  3. I was at the FW Semi-State this weekend and heard an announcement that people are only allowed to tape their own wrestler. If this is a rule and not a suggestion how can we have live video feeds of wrestling events?

  4. In appears some people have forgot what a tournament does, provide one shot for everyone to decide who is the best nothing more, nothing less. In my view if the Team State finals were ranked according to the final poll it would provide more atmosphere for the finals and not for the opening round as in years past. This atmosphere would bring more fans and greater numbers for the finals. In the end you cannot run a profitable tournament based on good feelings and happy stories, it must be top tier wrestling.

  5. News Flash its already here. How many more time does this sort of thing need to happen before anything will be done about it? Or has this become like speeding where some people follow the law but you don't really have to?

  6. and these things aren't happening now? This rule is not being followed so one of two things need to happen. Either abolish it and let everybody compete under the same rules or enforce this one/ rewrite it with some actual repercussions for everyone who is guilty of breaking it.

  7. Switching schools for sports related reasons used to be the exception. Lately it seems that this is not the case and instead of getting mad at the schools who do not follow this rule why don't we just get rid of the rule. We could at least change it so that the high school athlete is not the only one risking something by moving school districts.

  8. could somebody change the title of this so others actually know what is being talked about on here. Everyone should know about this other wise it will happen again. Nobody remembers that this happened on mat one and many were probably out of the arena when it occurred since it was right before the break.

  9. This is unbelievable and the ihsaa needs to start stepping in when these officals try to become the center of attention. The offical should of realzied he made a mistake when the other wrestler asked to continue, this is the state tournement. Everybody comes and wants to wrestle whether they lose or win its the experice on the mat in the conseco field house. Nobody makes this trip to receive forfeits or byes this is not iswca state.

  10. I have seen this situation a few times this tournament season. The offensive wrestler has a single leg picked up and they are in the neutral postion. The defensive wrestle then jumps up and into the offensive wrestler. What I am worried that is going to happen is that the defensive wrestler is going to get accidentally slammed when the offensive wrestler looses his balance or control of the defensive wrestler.

My remedy would be to immediately stop the match for potential dangerous and award the offensive wrestle 1 penalty pt since I deem the defensive wrestlers move to be avoiding wrestling.

Has anyone seen this situation? How was it called when it happened?

  11. These pigtails should have been random draws not just placed against others from the Jay Country regional. If everybody on here is so worried about the fairness of all this the other Jay Country wrestlers are getting worked over on this one. This situation is not their fault and they should not have to bear the weight of this decision. By doing a random draw you admit the mistake, give an opportunity to wrestlers who were unable to complete through no fault of their own, and you do not specifically punish the wrestlers who did wrestle at Jay County that day.

    On another Note:

While I cannot come up with anything better - barring wrestle-backs - there is another wrestler who gets a possible bad deal here:  Dylan Green.  By virtue of winning his own regional he earned the right to NOT face someone of Chalifant's calibre in the first round.  Reality is that these two young men were quite likely to both be state qualifiers and now, without either of them losing, it is not possible.

Winning your Regional guarantees you one thing, another opportunity to wrestler. the quality of the wrestler you face is arbitrary.

  12. I just heard about this tourney and it completely blows my mind. This is the weekend of Semi-state and I feel it is counter productive to the sport as a whole and to the middle schoolers who are forced to wrestle. How and why does this happen? If I am wrong then does Mater Dei, Bellmont, Perry, Mishawaka, or any of the other dominate teams in our state host middle school tournaments that weekend or do they promote watching the best wrestling of the season?
