  1. I gotta say that I am one who truly was questioning Johns injury by the way he seemed to be dodging Chad all season and to see it happen again at Semi State sort of reinforced it in my mind.

What I witnessed at state was very very cool.  John Sims...you have earned my respect young man. To go through state the way you did was impressive. Your match with Chad was also. You gave it all you had and left nothing on the mat.

Keep your head up because in life, this will be a very small thing. What you did this season will help you later in life. Your work ethic will be good, the way you relate with people will be also. All by being a wrestler. Not a wrestler from MD , CHS or anywhere but just by wrestling. It puts something into a person that a lot of other sports dont.

You will always be able to look back at your years of HS wrestling and pull from that. Not everyone can be a state champion and truly it is a lot of luck and the draw. What you are getting is college paid for with a sport that is demanding but that you like. You will then take what is ingrained in you from wrestling and that great college education you will get and you will great in life John.

Use that college education and be the best person you can be...study hard and wrestle hard and be the person who doesnt live for the glory days of HS but for what the glory days of HS was able to do for you...when you are old like me and cant move like you used too...ha ha

John Iam proud of you and I know the fans of CHS are too..Go get them at Cleveland State brother.....

  2. Poly Blue et. al.  Its going to be real eye opening for everyone later on tonight. Who cares who has beaten who. They both will be under the lights, facing each other the way we have all wanted all year. I personally have been looking forward to this all year....

Just the way it should be......man to man...in front of the entire wrestling community....for the right to be THE MAN @ 160...............

  3. MUCH easier? Are you serious? His last two opponents were a combined 80-0. Perhaps you were undefeated in high school and so that isn't impressive, but in my book one doesn't go undefeated into the quarterfinals or semifinals of the state tournament without being REALLY good.

And your implying that his injury was fictitious or minimal is just insulting -- not just to him, but to everyone with intelligence who reads this board.  John Sims is a 4X state placer (an impressive achievement that even Welch did not accomplish). But in this, his final year, he missed more than half of his potential matches. Why would he do that?

There's nobody on here bashing Welch, indeed I have nothing but respect for him. Why your classless bashing of a young man who has shown an incredible and highly respectable amount of mental toughness over the past 4 years? He has been dealt an incredibly difficult hand, and has continued to push through -- all the way to the state finals, in fact.  Regardless of the outcome of that match, Sims deserves respect.

  4. All I can say is WOW about the comments about Matt Mastison.  ??? As a parent of a wrestler who has battled Matt for probably the last 4-5 yrs, all I can say I am embarrassed for my son's name being mentioned in some of the post. My family and Blake have nothing but the upmost respect for the Mastison family. I consider myself and Mark a "wrestling" friend as our boys have become competitiors on the mat. Our older kids go to the same university and I have enjoyed speaking with Mark about U of Indy wrestling.  As I hoped and cheered for Matt to advance at SS, I feel that Mark and Matt were cheering for Blake and Sam Goebel to do their best and advance to state also. I hope the people that have been bashing Matt will remember that these are only boys and not adults. Congratulations on Matt's season and I know it wasn't what you guys wanted but I know Matt will make the best of it next year and only continue to work harder and be more determined. That's what scares me.   :) I'm sure the Blake vs. Matt matches are not yet over in their HS careers.

Somebody that has nothing better to do than bash high school kids should find a charitable organization and donate some of their time instead of posting on a discussion board.

    Mark Johns

    DITTO Mark

  5. Why would he not TRY? Because he has been hampered by an injury most of the season, all the way through the conference tournament (which he didn't participate in) and likely wants to wrestle only the matches needed to advance to state. Then he gets another week to heal.

You have yet to propose a serious explanation for forfeiting. It makes no sense to forfeit to "duck" competition when it means that he will face tougher competition to advance next week. So in your eyes he is just scared, so he is willing to take a lower place this week and next week just to avoid wrestling these two?

Thx you just answered my post and question....Thx partner

  6. Reality check there Grap, if he wasn't injured there is no point to doing this, precisely because there IS NO MORE SEEDING! His position at semistate will be determined solely by his placement at regionals, and this forfeit just got him a worse draw. So if you and your friends are laughing, you are only proving that you are a jack@--.

NICE....kinda like a pitcher who has a hang nail and can't pitch. I guess you can't figure it out but why would he not TRY for a possible 1 or 2 seed? Curiouser. And curiouser ...hmmm now is going for 3 or 4. Why would any one in our most awesome and tough sport do that?  I guess you probably would...but I have watched a lot of kids in the last 40 years tough it out and compete. ....btw...guess I have friends all over the gym....even over in the red and gold...they were chuckling also....

Dude did you ever wrestle?  WOW....oh and way to get personal with the jack... comment...you.have such an expansive repitoire ...that's as personal as I get LOL

  7. Crowd silent as 160 Sims fails to come to the mat to wrestle Rickenbaugh. Sims forfeits.. SAD

guess my sources were right but he was even ducking ri ckenbaugh also. I am sorry but this doesnt show anyone much and the crowd wasnt silent......they were laughing. ...all i. An say is that it will come back haunt him in semi state. He couldnt have been hurt because he breezed through his 1st match.....all he is doing is ducking to try and keep a decent seed.....SAD BUT ...........
  8. LOL...there are a LOT of Boots', so I bet it was loud!  Glad to hear the Evansville fans did not disappoint...I was bothered all day Saturday after reading that post :)  Thanks for the cheers Jon...the boys did great, we were very proud!!

    Hi Ya Matchick

Dittos from the Castle section also. We were rooting all the Eville Area kids on. It was quite a weekend. The web probably didnt give it justice.

As for everyone else saying how MD was down..what a compliment. Most schools when they are down no one even notices. I personally think we have MD and Mike Goebel to thank for why so many teams are getting better in the feeders and HS. Look at Castle, Reitz, Princeton, Memorial, Mt. Vernon, boys from North and Harrison...WOW. Its unfortunate for MD but they showed the way and opened lots of doors for the boys down here and the other schools are coming through the door and expanding on it...

  9. You know he does say it and it's funny and even I have seen it multiple times. It's old but he can post what he wants.

But you aren't repeating yourself and i am tired of reading what's coming out of

    your mouth.

If you feel that he brings up spmething that's has been said then why did you bring up te spitting incident. It's been talked about

so stop being so hypocritical and take your outsiders view somewhere else

    Amen brother G

Lets concentrate on how frickin awesome the Welches are "wrestling" and not all the other BS. I mean really thats why we are all on this site and WILL be at state this weekend.

Lets quit bashing each other and just all come together and root like hell for the So IN boys.

Lets all meet by Starbucks for Tequila shots and Kumbya Friday night..

  10. And he reminds me of someone also...I just can't pt my finger on who!

HA HA  anytime you but a finger (or anything) to a Welch. You may not get it back. You for sure cant get them off you. Just ask Sims and Richey

    ::)

  11. Seen them both wrestle this year and I don't think it would have mattered this year. It is total domination @ 189 this year by Atwood. The Purdue boys have him at another level.

Dont forget about Rosebrock from Castle....unbelievable wrestler
