  4. Had this been Semi State I would deffinitely place my money on the dude being from Mater Dei. As they and Mater Dei Ft. Branch Campus were the only teams allowed on the floor whenever they wanted.

    Well played sir.

    I just picked a Bloomington South kid from the list since I was wearing a purple tie....

  5. I agree.  Should be B first.  A is eliminated by the H2H loss to C.  B has no commons with C, so winning percentage says B gets the 1 seed.

    Start over with 2.  C wins a H2H over A.  C gets the 2 seed.

    A gets the 3 seed.

    All that said, it is up to the folks in the room to agree to it.  The tournament director should see to it that it is seeded properly.  I will say ours (not the same sectional as the example given) tried to keep us by the book tonight, but at no time did I feel like anyone really disagreed with the way it played out.

  6. Because this poll is 6 people's opinion that really don't seem to keep up on the wrestling scene.

    This is why the Indianamat.com poll is so important.  Now you have the coaches' poll and the media poll.  Different perspectives allow for a wider range of schools to earn recognition, which is one of the things our sport needs, especially in smaller communities or newer programs.

    We may not have classed wrestling yet to really allow for more recognition, but kudos to the media and the coaches for giving these schools some recognition for their efforts!

  7. I would hardly pity them.  To me, you are saying they have peaked at 17.  That is a sad way to look at things.

    To me, you respect the heck out of them.  Not every state champ was the hardest worker in their room (some kids are blessed with natural abilities beyond comparison), but at the end of the day, they are the one who put it all together at the right time.  IT is a tremendous accomplishment.

    Do you pity the valedictorian at your high school each year?  Chances are he or she will never reach the intellectual pinnacle in their fields.  They may even land in jail.  I don't have the data to back that up either, but I hardly think pity is the word.

  8. A fine example of the effect a message board can have!

    Could be. Or it could be the fact that last week when I noticed the difference last week, I contacted the IHSWCA (gasp!) president and asked him if this was accurate. He responded (within minutes) that it was a misprint and he would contact Mr. Faulkens to work on correcting it.

    Either way. Just glad it got resolved. That clause can help some of these seeding problems.

  9. Are the criteria for sectional seeding the same as last year?

    How long has returning champ at the same weight not been on the list

    Also:

    Has furthest advancement in last year's state tournament series always been behind winning percentage?

    How often do two guys have the EXACT same win %? I don't see that one being used very often.

    I asked someone recently about the criteria because I thought that it had been changed last season during the tournament restructuring.  It was to include "Semistate quarterfinalist in previous State tournament" above winning percentage.  He said he believed the bulleting criteria was printed in error.  This should have been the criteria listed.

    Determination of seeded wrestlers is given in order of importance:

    a. Head to head competition; (The wrestler with the most head to head wins gets the seed. If they have beaten

    each other an equal number of times, then the winner of the last match gets the seed.);

    b. Record against common opponents;

    c. Prior year IHSAA semi‐state quarterfinalist.

    d. A contestant with the best overall record (winning percentage) who has wrestled at least 10 matches;

    e. Farthest advancement in previous year IHSAA State Tournament Series;

    f. Draw by lot / Coin toss.

    Criteria is reset after determining each seed.

    NOTE: A wrestler with less than ten (10) matches may not be seeded ahead of a wrestler with at least ten (10)

    matches and a winning record unless he/she meets criteria in a, b or c. A wrestler with a losing record may

    not be seeded unless he/she meets criteria a, b or c unless there are less than six (6) wrestlers in the bracket.

    Not sure if this helps your personal situation, but I would think we need to get this cleared up before sectional meetings start.

  10. To go along with your seeding meeting idea:

    "(Insert name here) is 18 and 20, but they've been up against stellar competition.  Their strength of schedule is way up there."

    I hear this one every year and it never seems to really matter once they wrestle.

  12. Sage Coy a 6 seed at 126... Wow...... Ranked in state, a Fargo AA, who's in front of him? Rambo? Chuck Norris? Steven Seagull? Napoleon Dynamite? Holy Smokes.... That's a bracket buster there...

    My money's on Seagull...

  13. I went by this:

    "The state's weight-control program shall require each wrestler to establish a certified minimum weight and prohibit recertification at a lower weight during the season."

    - NFHS Rules, Rule 1 Section 5 Article 3

    If there is something else published, please post that so I can know the state's opinion.

  14. At Ford Center this weekend, an effort was made to display the scoreboard screen from Trackwrestling, but it became too difficult to display that and the upcoming matches (which was the only way we knew our mat assignments).  That may not be a bad idea to try on their screens.  Use two ends to display an upcoming matches screen and two ends to display the Trackwrestling scoreboards.

    Of course, between rounds we would totally want the Indianamat logo up...

  15. Fill me in if i missed it, but was a distinction in the scoring made this season for the 5th/6th finishers at regional and semistate?  Since they are wrestled for, shouldn't there be some sort of bonus like with sectional?  It is pretty much that way with semistate, but the regional (no place) slot doesn't differentiate between 5th or 2 and out.  I didn't see as much in the scoring procedure.

    No axe to grind or point to be made, just curious.

  16. 2 (113 & 285) at Bloomington South.  4 more (120, 138, 145, and 182) were in 6th.

    As a coach, I felt like for the most part the deserving wrestler earned that alternate spot.  It may not have mattered to some, but you could tell that for the most part, the kids wrestling for that spot gave it their all.

  17. no bursting bubble they are still one of the toughest conf in the south; have watched PAC & Big 8 this season along with SIWAC and would say they hold their own with any of them. thanks for your opionon.

    There's also that other one, the SIAC, that probably is worth mentioning.

  18. C should be over A from H2H.

    A should be over B from win %.

    B should be over C from win %.

    How is A out?  He still holds a criteria over B.  In fact, it is the same criteria that B claims over C.  By denying A over B, aren't you invalidating your own argument for B being over C?  I would think that C moves above A based on criteria 1, but does that mean every other criteria advantage A has is irrelevant?  I think I know the answer, but I still like asking the question.

  19. Now Joe and I are demonstrating why Coach Hannon asked what he asked..L.O.L.

    Can I get an AMEN from the congregation??

    This is my point exactly. Two reasonably intelligent and experienced coaches seeing the same scenario in opposite ways.

    Now if there were a resource released by NFHS, IHSAA, or even the IHSWCA we could settle these lengthy battles in record time.

    And the murky gets clear...

    P.S. The Harry Potter reference was removed when my 81 lb freshman call me a loser for even mentioning Harry Potter. This is an all-time low in my coaching career.
