  1. That was my first time in the building.  The only actual complaint I have is in no way specific to the Semi-State, and that is the complete lack of planning for parking when the place was built.

Was it cold in the building, yes and for the reasons noted.  Food was expensive, but the quality was actually pretty darned good.

There isn't a bad seat in the house!  You could see every mat from every section and the sound system didn't sound like its was under 8 feet of water.

Personally I would like to see the scoreboard used to display the current match scores for the 4 mats

  2. Is it just me, or this not the most unforgiving sport?

I have coached other sports but wrestling is different for some reason.

My high school coach told me I would remember the losses more than I would ever remember the wins.

    He was so right!

The loses always comeback every time I go for a run. I wake up thinking about them.

It just wears me out. For some reason I can't let them go.

Losing hurts worse than winning feels good, but why so much more in wrestling?

I don't know why a lose in wrestling sticks with me more than any other sport I have coached.

I hate losing period, but I just can't keep from going back to the wrestling loses.

I guess its just all the time invested in preparing, the hopes and dreams invested in this sport.

To watch a kid pour his heart into this sport and his dream and then see it come to an end is just devastating

Damn I hate this sport, while at he same time I love it.

I hate the demons of losing, they tear your heart out.

Every time you win your reborn, every time you lose you die a little.

As you have taught so many over the years, Wrestling IS Life.  And Coach you have taught many of us more than you know.

  3. Is this the same Blue Nut that predicted a lot more Castle Sectional wrestlers to get out?? Get a clue. Look at the bracket closely??? When I look I see a 2X State Qualifier in Hoehn and nothing from Judy but just a drill partner in the wrestling room.

[/quotete]Oh please don't get him going again.Don't you all know that his 50% prediction ratio is never wrong.

And just who now has their ticket punched?  No disrespect to Hoehn.  Tough tough kid with a fantastic career!

  4. I know this is not important to anyone, so if you have anything "cute" to say just please keep it to yourself.

Two years ago this coming weekend was the last time I saw my father healthy.  He sat next to me at the Evansville Semi-State watching the very best the state has to offer battle it out.

Two days later, he was in the ICU of Deaconess Gateway Hospital, and fighting for his life.  Not explanation, not reasons why.  His hearth and breathing stopped twice, but he kept coming back to the amazement of his doctors.  He refused to quit

This started 17 months of watching a mild mannered, honest, and God Fearing, man slowly slip away, one day at a time.  I can't count how many weeks were spent in the hospital during that time. Or how many times his heart stop, and started again with explination.  He just clawed his way back with a fight and determination that defied all belief.  The most unbelievable thing is he never complained once.  Dialysis, surgery after surgery, no answers to any questions, he just pressed ahead with his life.

On 28 July 2011, while he slept, his struggles ended. He was in his home, asleep, and peacefully left on his terms.

I share this with you because he was a wrestling fan from the time of my first match.  He never fully understood the science of the sport,  he never set foot on a mat, but his heart and determination he showed in his fight showed the characteristics of a champion.  As a teacher of 34 years, he appreciated what our sport taught not only his son and his son-in-law, but all the kids he would go and watch wrestle long after we had graduated.

So this weekend, as you watch the incredible efforts of the kids, know that the lessons these young people are learning are lessons worth learning, and that heart and determination are the product of character.

  5. Blue Bolt,  I will be at the Ford Center this Saturday.  I can't wait!!! I already have my singlet on.  That is what you call those things, isn't it?  Anyway, I will be rooting for all of our wrestlers from the Castle Regional.  I hope to see some high finishes by our guys next weekend at Banker's Life Fieldhouse (yes, I will be there too).  By the way, I have matured beyond the point of Ski.  Maybe you could join us sometime at the Hilltop for a fishbowl of your favorite.  I'm sure I will have a lot of questions for you after watching all of that wrestling.  Hey, if you're looking for me this weekend my singlet is the reversible blue/red type and I've got some sweet Addidas shoes some kid left at regionals.  I'm thinking of going red side out in the morning and afternoon and then blue out for the finals.  You know, blue for champions.  Great idea huh?

Your first lesson on the sport,  it's not normally acceptable to kiss your opponents.  We normally just shake hands.

  6. Blue Bolt-

I am giving you a "100% No-Spin" rating on your reply!  You are back in the saddle, baby!

The irony is lost on these chaps who don't understand that these barbs are pointed at "the adults", specifically NOT the programs or the kids.

Maybe you can take Wrestleman and me to a match sometime.  I will warn you:  He has seen very few, if any, live matches.  He might get a little overexcited....

No BYOB on this one, i'll bring the ski.

    Hook

Have I not been to enough matches with you?  Lol.

I am still not sold on Wrestleman ever actually having seen a live match before.  ;-)

And ski, seriously?  Isnt that what they drank on Fear Factor?

Good luck to your boys this weekend.  It is going to be a hell of a weekend!

  7. I am just posting what has been discussed by many of the long time Reitz fan base.  I am not concerned what you may think.  Yes we all know who you are and what you have accomplished.  But for you to be here taking part in all this illustrates the problem.  The Westside vs Eastside thing is very tired.  I grew up listing to it, my dad listened to it, his dad did too, and so on and so on.  It looks like yet another generation is going to be brought up with it.  Great job guys.  You have failed to raise the bar for these young people past the ignorance of previous generations.

The last line you wrote says everything we need to know about your character and the lack of respect you show for others.   That certainly sounds like a quality that we don't need around our kids.

And before you replay to this, make very sure your comments are well thought out.  They may lead to a very interesting career path.

Seriously, I have no idea why this has you all torn up, but free king relax!  The Reitz kids have presented themselves very respectfully and have earned their place in Saturdays Semi-State.  What ever happens here is just talk. Means nothing in the grand scheme of life.

I can appreciate you being upset, but honestly it is what it is.  Opinion and ultimately guesses.  If they want to rub it in over picks made during a high school event then so be it.  Let them have their moment in the "limelight" of this message board.  I have been just as bad at times.  It's like a black eye, it heals and you move on.

Relax, enjoy the efforts of the kids and pray for continued success for both sides!  These kids are a great group of representatives!

  8. I know there is all fun and games going on here, but as a life long Reitz Wrestler and fan, I have to say I'm disappointed in what I have read here.

I get it, you're having a good year and it's time to strut and rub some salt in the wounds, but in my day that was the unacceptable.   We won because we were supposed to.  No need to say another word.  If we got beat we came back and avenged that the next time.  Our coaches would have killed us if we acted like what I have read.

If you are a part of the Reitz program, I really hope you don't teach the kids that this is ok!  It's an embarrassment to those of us who have supported you for all these years.

If you want people to stop drinking the "Haterade" then stop pouring it.   You make us all look like fools.

I also want you to stop and think about it for a second, how long has it been since we beat Castle in a dual?  Shouldn't we show the respect we would like to have in return?

It's talk like what I see that makes us all look like the fools they claim we are.  If they want to talk, then let them.  Panther Pride knows better!

    Just my 2 cents

Like I said.  Good luck to all the South Western kids!  Would be great to load up the Castle Regional and take them all!

  9. Thank you very much.  You are too kind.  I hope this shows Blue Bolt that I have actually been witness to a wrestling match.

I will always say congrats to those who advance out of this Regional,  the realistic side of it is it is about the kids, no matter where they are from.

As for the Kool aid.  Thanks but no thanks, we drink big people drinks over here.  ;-).

Good luck to all the south western kids!

  10. Have you been to Danvilles practices and have some inside info. Just because there is talent in the room doesnt mean that his PRACTICE partner is as good. You are just secretly bitter that the Castle sectional didnt perform as well as you had hoped.

And how might you know I don't?  Have you seen Judy wrestle?

The most interesting part of it all is how the fact I have stated I would love to see Hoehn win out hs been completely lost in all this.

As for the Castle sectional's performance, it is what it is.  Bitter?  Are you serious?  These are teenage kids in a high school sport!  I am not posting flipping spreadsheets and pie charts full of stats

And what have you.  Whose taking all this far to seriously?

Good luck to all our kids.  It is going to be a wild one that is far tighter  than it has been in recent years.  It is really fantastic to see the talent pool leveling out and some of the best representative for our semi state come from various places.  It's just better all around for the sport.

  11. Is this the same Blue Nut that predicted a lot more Castle Sectional wrestlers to get out?? Get a clue. Look at the bracket closely??? When I look I see a 2X State Qualifier in Hoehn and nothing from Judy but just a drill partner in the wrestling room.

Which goes to show how little you know about, much less respect, anyone outside your little world.

Thank you for proving my point so completely...

  12. Results- hoehn 2X state qualifier and Judy never makin it out

And then Lannert bein 4th in state last year an all.

And BTW, Judy was eliminated last year by Rueger, and the year before by Micheal Brown of Castle...

Lannert and Hoehn are tough kids, but it's just not the same.

  13. Results- hoehn 2X state qualifier and Judy never makin it out

And then Lannert bein 4th in state last year an all.

I never said I wouldn't LOVE to see Hoehn go...But once again, be realistic about it and look at the bracket closely...

  14. I can agree to that!Who is the heavy favorite? There isn't one IMO. It could be either hoehn, Judy, or Lannert.

Judy is the favorite in that class.  If nothing else for the draw alone.  His expirences, quality of opponents, not to mention he gets a daily dose of Neal Malloy's presence in the wrestling room.  Could I be wrong?  Sure, just the same as you could.  But can you come up with a reasonable argument against the reasons I have just given that don't have anything to do with bias based on location?

  15. BlueBolt- With all of your rants and missed predictions about the Castle regional I think everyone of your post should now start with this statement, "In my extremely biased and uneducated opinion..."

Whew, it's a great thing no one really cares what you think either.  I'll just put your opinion right next to the rest of them and assign te same value they have.  But hey, thanks for taking the time to not bother my one else and focusing me.

  16. 106 is all messed up with bad draws along with 138 bein extremely heavy on 1 side

You have to be honest.  138 there is a heavy favorite and then there is 2-4 to be determined.  Mooresville's regional may very well take that one.

  17. The most evenly matched Semi-State I have seen in many many years!

The Mooresville regional is going to be be bringing some really tough competition, and Jeffersonville and Bloomington South will both take their shares of ticket holders to Indy.

This may be one for the scrapbook!

  18. I agree Bluebolt. Though these posts get a little heated at times, we have to remember that these are only predictions. There is nothing written in stone that "Jimmy" is moving on as a guarantee. Each and every time that these young men step on that mat, IT'S TIME TO GET IT ON and they know it. We as both parents and coaches REALLY do not have to give them motive to go as they are self driven. Each and everyone of these young men(and I don't care where they come from) bust there butts every day to achieve the ultimate goal, WIN. I say congrats to those that have punched their ticket to the next round and go represent this region well.

Looks like a solid group heading to the Ford Center to represent.  I hope they come ready to wrestle next week. The other regionals are looking strong too!

  19. To BlueBolt:

    31 evansville central sectional

    5 castle sectional

    After 160

    What was that prediction?

What I would say is Congrats to those who made it theought from 106 - 160 at that point.  Represent our regional well!

  20. BlueBolt.... Thanks for posting and saying what you do. I believe you do bring a different view than what the westsiders post here all the time and i believe that you do keep it quite fair. Also, thanks to your postings, i can see how Castle is shaping up for the season while i am at school. I appreciate it.

Personally i think it is nice that Castle's 9 sectional winning streak is coming to an end. I remember my senior year where we were the team that won 4 years in a row. That was special. But at the same time, its nice to see that other programs in the southern part of the state are building up and producing great wrestlers but also great teams. I think the whole "the SIAC will dominate all" (which it is the best conference in the state IMO  ;D ) is going to be challenged by teams in the Big 8 and others. Its all good for wrestling.

That being said, i hope all Castle wrestlers win by pin in the first period on saturday.

While losing the sectional is never a happy thing, I agree that the quality of other programs stepping up and a more balanced field is critical for our sport.

Take a look at Heritage Hill's program as an example.  20 years ago it didn't exist!  They have improved each year they have fielded a team and honestly impressed me a great deal watching their kids wrestle with a great level of intensity and pretty darned good technique.  The same can be said for Boonville and a few others.

Of course I am a Castle fan, always will be!  Those kids are walking the same path I did many years ago.  They are the kids of my friends!  But it is pretty obvious this years team is green and learning.  I know that they give it their all and that's what the sport is all about!

But to sit here and ignore the fact that Hertiage Hills, Boonville, Princeton, Gibson Southern, and Tell City are bringing some REALLY note worthy competition is just plain stupid.

I have to wonder what kind of message this sort of thing sends to an Evansville sectional kid who gets beat in the first round by one of these schools that apparently don't meet others standards?  "Gee Timmy, nice season but now you are worse than that kid from Podunk Tech!".

  21. Off topic question to Castle posters. What happened to "The Stick"? I haven't seen him since the Welch twins won last year. Not poking fun at you guys but you should really be glad he's not trying to represent the entire Castle fan base this year although I'm a bit suprised because I think 120 may have a Welch way up on the podium at state this year??

The stick was jammed into a burlap bag and beaten with a sock full of nickels, then driven back to the west side.

  22. Blue Bolt had made a lot of claims regarding the Castle and Central sectionals, strength of rising programs and the relative weakness of traditional powerhouses.  Let's measure the claims against the outcomes and give him an accuracy rating.

You know, like Rush Limbaugh is 99.4% accurate?

Blue Bolt may earn the mantle of "The Oracle of the South"...  Long live Blue Bolt!

Truth being told...The thing about all this that actually does tear me up is the fact so many adults seem to think its perfectly ok to belittle and berate the kids and their programs.    Do I have my alligences?  Of course...but I have had the stones to point out there are some really great kids coming from some programs that have shown signs of remarkable growth.  Sorry if that is "wrong" but I have been around this area most of my life and remember the days when wrestling was  king because it was all about each 6 minutes.  I will gladly acknowledge the accomplishments of these programs and their coaches, kids, and parents.

The truest sign of knowledge of our sport is the ability to comprehend the FACT that their are no "locks" or "sure things".  Every year we see kids who are beaten by the scales, grades, disciplinary problems, family problems, (God forbid) injuries...you get the picture.  To sit here and discount a kid because they aren't from your area or someone you know is the height of stupidity.

You want honesty?  The arrogance of some of these posts belittles kids who are doing the best they can with why they have and programs that are doing all try can just to get their kids in the position to show up Saturday morning.

    Pitiful if you ask me.
