  1. Oops, my mistake, you  had 5th ranked Ferrell to go over 6th ranked McGinley.    :P     Okay, let me change my original question to say, "... it is odd to have 3 state-ranked McGinley's and none of them from Cathedral...".  I'm still curious as to their relationships if any to the Cathedral clan.

Charlie (119) and Barry (103) are related to the Cathedral clan. Charlie is Sean's (Cathedral coach's) nephew, and brother to Tom, Timmy and Gavin, who all wrestled at Cathedral. Barry is Sean's cousin's son, and brother to Tony McGinley who wrestled for Cathedral a few years ago. As far as I know, the McGinley from GC isn't related.

  2. I agree Completely Nick...

History has shown us repeatedly that young men in the age group we are talking about have changed the course of Nations, if not Mankind in general.   It is time we got back to raising YOUNG ADULTS and stopped holding on to the concept of children being soft.  Teach them lifes lessons early and in a controlled environment and life will be much easier for them to live.

What life lesson was being taught to Tyler Willis?

  3. "i say he is gonna be way better then McMurrey and Vlahos combined it isn't a comparison"

    First, it's McMurrAY.

You've opened my eyes... Maybe we should quit wrestling...

Sean, I want to apologize for the words of my brother. I can only assume that he got too excited in defending his friend that he said some things that he should not have.  You are a hell of a Champion and it was a pleasure watching you compete the past few years.

    Apologetically,

    Tom McGinley CHS 02'

ps. This is my wife's account haha.

  4. I seem to remember when Lance Rhodes was coaching at Cathedral, alot of people were pissed that he didn't have us shake hands with the opposing coaches. I guess I can chalk that up to some good ol' Cathedral hating.

Oh yeah, this is Tom McGinley. I am on my wife's account.

  5. "10 seconds left in the game football players sneak up behind their coaches and dump a cooler of Gatorade on their coach."

Is this disrespectful to the other team cause there is time left on the clock?

"3 or 4 seconds on the clock basketball player throws ball in the air to celebrate a title."

Is this disrespectful to the other team cause their is time left on the clock?

"Kirk Gibson pumps his fist as he runs the bases after hitting a home-run."

Is this disrespectful to the other team cause he has not crossed home plate?

These are just a few examples and no one EVER complains about them.  So, please get off your soapboxes and let the kid enjoy his third state title he has earned it.

The only one that i find disrespectful would be The basketball team. The Gatorade thing is done on the sidelines by players not in the game. When Kirk Gibson hits a home run the play stops the game is over. That is why they call it a walk off home run.

  6. I'm not sure an inanimate object, "the draw", can "cheat".  Cheating implies knowingly doing something against the rules.  Not sure that can happen.  Lots of wrestlers get unfortunate draws.  And that's what this may have been: unfortunate but not cheating.

I am not sure what to think about this post.  They way I read it is that you could make a case that Willis was cheated out of the chance to wrestle for the finals at 100%.

  7. First off, I don't know Tyler all that well. All I know is that my husband and his friends/family, continually say that Tyler is the best kid. Keep in mind, he is FIFTEEN years old. After he got hurt, the doctor told him he couldn't continue, even though he kept saying he didn't want to win this way. The doctor told him it wasn't his choice anymore.

Fast forward to the booing in the introductions. What has this come to? Booing a 15 year old for a DOCTOR'S decison? Seriously? Then, after his loss, not only did he get boo'd on the podium, but Vlahos was up there running his mouth, telling Tlyer he is not a man for what happened. I can tell you that it was not his decision, he wanted to wrestle, but the doctor wouldn't let him wrestle. Tyler, in my opinion, is a great kid, if not for anything but being able to stand up there and take the boo's and still act like he had some class, which none of the people who boo'd did.

In conclusion, I'll add when I was in high school, I was never a Cathedral fan, but if one of their guys EVER got hurt, you would have NEVER seen me boo. That is so disrespectful. So, congrats Tyler, congrats even more to McMurray (and props to you for showing class, as you always do on here)....and congrats to Tylers family, including his little sister, who sat through the boo'ing and still supported their son who they knew was in the place he should have been. We will always be behind you Tyler.

  8. I think Gavin Mcginley last year was a bit of a Cinderella story. I dont think anyone really expected him to get to the finals. People thought he would place but not that high. He battled I believe 2 ot matches before the finals. And was close to pulling a huge upset in the finals.  It was a great finals match!

  9. I can't wait to go this game. Tailgaiting before, and watching the jets get crushed is going to be awesome.wat are some peoples seat area. I am in the endzone corner in 629.

We will be in section 230. And tailgating in the The Delaware and South Lot.

  10. On one side, it sucks for the schools that lose these kids, but on the other side, the kids get to attend schools that are great institutions (Cathedral being a "Blue Ribbon" school). If a kid has a choice to go to a mediocre public high school or go to a "college preparatory" high school, I'm guessing their  parents would encourage the latter.

People don't just go these schools for sports. I lived outside of Marion county and at least 3 people from my public middle school left for Cathedral, and only 1 of them played sports. If my kids want to go to Cathedral, they will, regardless of what it costs us. If not, then they can stay at whichever township school we will be living in at that point.

  11. Oh boo freaking hoo. I doubt you're a former Cathedral wrestler. Well, then again, maybe you are. Maybe you were one of those kids who weren't good enough to make the varsity team and now you're just bitter. The whole finger thing has been address in 3 different threads. Can we put that to rest? It's currently be discussed in the "MATCH OF THE YEAR" thread, so you can go there for info about why it's pointless to bring that up. As far as all the other stuff, I'm pretty sure it's none of your business how it was all handled.

  12. That really is a punk move on their part.  You can't even claim it is the natural or comfortable way to hold it.  Everyone else has their whole hands on it.  Really lost respect for them.

Did you lose some respect for the seventh placer at 125? My guess is you never had any respect for them in the first place.

No kidding. All of the following (non-Cathedral kids) are holding the posters with 1 finger and/or thumb - so no, "Everyone else" does not have their whole hand on the board:

    4th, 5th and 8th place finishes in picture #4

1st place finisher in photo #13

2nd and 6th place finishers (and Steven came darn close to letting one of his fingers slip off - oh no!) in photo #20

5th place finisher in photo #29

6th place finisher in photo #32

4th place finisher in photo #36

2nd place finisher in photo #38

3rd place finisher in photo #39

7th place finisher in photo #42

So can you put this to rest already? It was not some conspiracy. If you don't think these kids have the utmost respect for the sport of wrestling as to not do something so disrespectful, then you are crazy. These kids have worked hard all their lives in this sport, and I'd guess they stand up there with a mixture of pride and disappointment, but I'm guessing disrespect was not on their minds. I can only speculate though, because I've never stood in their shoes. Maybe someone else can enlighten me though.
