  2. Coaches,

If you are or have been unable to practice for consecutive days leading up to Saturday's individual regional due to the weather, you need to notify the IHSAA and your host site. They need that information in order to determine the weight allowance and notify participating schools in a timely fashion. They can't make that determination unless they know you haven't been allowed to practice.

If you are a school that cannot practice tomorrow, call Mr. Faulkens at the IHSAA and you host site and let them know. The IHSAA and many host sites are not going to go out of their way to get this info. They don't care if we get an allowance or not or if participating schools even know.

    1 - Reece Humphrey: IHSAA State Finals Qual, 1st, 1st, 1st; Junior National Freestyle Runner-Up; 2X Div 1 NCAA All-American

2- Cashe' Quiroga: IHSAA State Finals Qual, 2nd, 1st, 3rd; Junior National Freestyle Champion, Div 1 NCAA All-American (at least once)

    T3-Brandon Ingalls: IHSAA State Finals 1st, 5th, 1st

    T3-Brad Stephens: IHSAA State Finals 4th, 1st, 1st

4- Case Hooper: IHSAA State Finals Qual, 1st, 1st

5 - Brandon Nelsen: IHSAA State Finals 4th, 3rd, 3rd, 1st, only 4X state placewinner in LN history, Junior National Freestyle All-American

I'm not sure if Ingalls, Stephens, or Hooper had any success on the National level. If not, I'd put Nelsen above them.

  5. how is it that 3 teams from Indianapolis are always at team state?  I'm sure other areas of the state would like that possiblity, like Merrillville and Crown Point, Penn and Mishawaka, Mater Dei and Castle

It is possible for zero teams from Indy to make it. For example, if Bloom South beat Perry, New Castle beat Roncalli, and Tri-Central beat Cathedral, there would be no Indianapolis area teams. You can't send every Indianapolis area team through the same team regional.

  6. Congrats to this year's 4-time IHSAA State Placewinners. For all the things that have to go right to get on that podium and no wrestlebacks, it's quite an accomplishment.

    I think this year's 4-time placers are:

    Brandon Nelsen: 4,3,3,1

    Brandon Wright: 2,1,2,1

    Sean McMurray:5,1,1,1

I think that's all of them. Feel free to add someone if I missed them.

  7. Here's how I have it:

    125 - Angel dec Cashe 3-0 IU

    133 - Akif dec Ortega 3-3

141 - Juan maj dec Monaco 7-3 PU

    149 - Bertucci dec Coughlin 10-3 PU

157 - Kinser maj dec Salazer 10-7 PU

    165 - Young dec Martin 10-10

    174 - Manuel dec Perry  13-10 PU

    184 - Corpe dec Cameron 16-10 PU

    197 - Brown dec Powless 19-10 PU

    285 - Everhart pin Walls 19-16 PU

Changing my predication. I'm taking Cashe' at 125. But, I'm also gonna take the Evansville boy Powless 97. So, team score stays the same.

  11. Cashe's match was on the Big 10 network last night, as was the rest of the dual meet.  Here's how the match went:

1st  Per: TD Sanders, Escape Cashe, TD Cashe with about 15 sec left in the period - 3-2 Cashe after 1

2nd Per: Escape cashe, hand fight for a bit, then Sanders with a low shot TD and traps Cashe's legs in kind of a turk and gets 3 NF. Cashe fights off his back but can't get an escape. 7-4 Sanders at the end of 2.

3rd Per: Escape Sanders to make it 8-4, Cashe turns up the heat and gets a TD to make it 8-6 and hurts Sanders trying to turn him. Sanders takes all of his injury time out and then Cashe cuts Sanders to make it 9-6. Cashe goes after him the get in a scramble and Cashe tries to fold his spine in half. Got a penalty point for that to make it 10-6.

Cashe looked good. Stopped trying to improve position for a split second in the period 2 and it cost him 3 backs. That was the match.

  13. Nice effort and it does generate interesting conversation, however I need to offer "other" food for thought.  The scoring system being used is flawed when you are talking about the TOP PROGRAMS.  I do not mean to take anthing away from any program but the facts are the facts.... LN dropped out of the Bellmont Super Dual in the decade we are talking about, because their coach admitted that they were not competitve and opted for lesser compition (this does not sound like a top program of the decade, it sounds more like a program that was dominate for a few years or so) and compiled a lot of points in the this scoring system.  Much like the success of Griffith, they had 3 outstanding studs and a couple of good kids in the decade, but that does not make them a top program of the decade.  The discussion of TOP PROGRAMS should be the consistancy of success, not a few teams having outstanding years for 4 years then dropping off the map. This is like trying to use some kind of point system to say which state champ was better at certain weight class, the 2002 vs. the 2008.  Like I said this is good conversation but no way can you put a scoring system in place that will justify any rating sytem...this will always be individual opinions.  Great work.....

We didn't drop out of Bellmont becasue we weren't competitive. Look at our schedule, I'd put it up against anyones. Mishawaka is the only team that has a tougher schedule than us.

Secondly, LN in the 2000's, has been in the top 4 of the team state tournament 5 times. That means, they not only got there, but they won at least one dual. Also, LN has had at least 1 wrestler under the lights in the state championship match 9 of the past 10 years. LN has had 1 state champion in 6 of the past 10 years. That's pretty consistent.
