I believe that in 1985 they knew by Thursday that the finals could not be held. The IHSAA made teh alternate arrangements and announced both the rescheduling and the new venue at the same time. In this case know one knew whether schools would be able to make it until Saturday morning, so there was no time to make other arrangements. Also, the state finals in 1985 was run by the state, even though there is a host school. My point was that Jay County wasn't responsible to make other arrangements, the IHSAA was. In this case they were either unable or unwilling to do that.

Duck_and_Run,
I can understand and share your frustrations. I'm sure Trent McCormick does, too. I don't know him other than what I've seen at wrestling tournaments, but he seems like a class guy. I'm sure he understands that having a visual position in the wrestling community makes him an easy target for frustrations people have about changes needed in wrestling.
I've been involved with wrestling tournaments over 30 years, maybe before you were born and I've never seen a situation like this. I've seen kids eliminated on bad calls or by letting their own anger get the best of them. I even remember a coach having his wrestler take an injury default after a slam when he was losing and obviously able to continue. But at least in those situations the wrestler was allowed to participate. I keep wondering what I would do if it were my son or my school. Like a lot of things, I'll never know until it does affect someone I'm closer associated with. I hope the uproar that has resulted from these decisions will prevent the same thing from happening in the future. Keep supporting you teams and wrestlers. If they were cheated by the decision this week they'll need your encouragement and support even more.

Matt is right. I like to watch how many regional winners don't make it to state. There are usually 8-10 at Fort Wayne. You still have to wrestle 2 good matches.

Just took 90 minutes to drive 35 miles from Huntington to Monroe. Probably could have made it quicker but we we had two vehicles trying to keep together. I had a Ranger, but didn't slide. Roads aren't nice though. Worst problem is blowing that causes occasional whiteouts.

TV weatherman in FW said this morning FW should only get 1-2 inches of snow and maybe 3 in Indy. He called radio reports of up to 7 inches irresponsible, but they can't afford their own meteorologist and probably rely on weather.com or similar wights for their forecasts. Any way it happens I never worry about forecasts. Too much can change in a day or two.

No they went to the top 4 advancing last year

Coaching has had a definite impact on most of the schools listed. The biggest impact is most likely the off season investments of those coaches.
I've also seen coaches who couldn't build a program at one school and then have success at another. Communities have a personality and sometimes it takes finding a coach whose personality matches the community. I think that's why you see a lot of coaches going "home" to build successful programs.
-
Yes, it's the same for state. The IHSAA issues a template to all semi-states to use for placing wrestlers. I think coahes get a copy of it at the completion of the regional. State is a little different since there is only one tournament, not 4. IHSAA will post state brackets by noon on Sunday following the semi-state.

The best seat and the seven next to it are "saved". Sorry.

I take it the Genius Ratings are named after their creator? :

Both of my daughters have inhalers and there are times when they have trouble catching their breath even after using them, especially after extreme exertion or under stress. That said, I was keeping score at a match several years ago when a wrestler from the opposing team ask for a break to use an inhaler. During the break the manager for his team, a high school girl, who was keeping score told he didn't have asthma. He kept an empty inhaler for when he was tired and needed a break. If the students knew it I'd have to guess the coach at least suspected it, but went along anyway. I'm sure this was an isolated case, but my point is you can't legislate ethics. The inhalers and injury times have to stay the way they are for the protection of the wrestlers. There will always be a minority who abuse the rules. I only hope coaches who teach those kind of ethics are held accountable.

I wish that would have happened in this case. All the coaches voted, 9 to 11 in favor of our kid getting the 3rd seed and the administrator didn't like it so he made it the way he wanted it. I guess when you host sectional you get some home cookin' along the way.
I can't believe the coaches let him get away with it. The tournament director should not have a vote in the seedings. He's only there to insure the seeding is done fairly and according to the recommendations. Sounds like he was biased to the host school.

I think they will. There seems to be two situations, 1 2-day tournament and a team tournament that is delayed. Mr. Cox only referred to the delayed tournament when he said the semi-states do not qualify.
