I will say that it blows paying to go to these clubs, but obviously you have never been to a CIA practice. The room is FULL of state champs, multiple placers and such. I've seen some amazing Aug/Sept/Oct wrestling between STUDS.Great post Zach!
I think it's nuts to pay for workouts with coaches who have little or no college experience and/or accolades. Basically, you pay more money now days to attend what used to be RTC. With the exception of a few, those are mostly modified club practices with the majority of participants being JV or in junior high. IMO, these academies have taken quality kids away from the medium and smaller clubs and watered down our RTC's.

Riding time is awesome. I adds a new dimension and strategy to the match.

Well Mr. Roe, you are are NOT crazy. My oldest sons senior year ended Friday night on a controversial no take down call. He spent all that year ranked in the top 5, and sat Saturday watching people place as high as 4th, that he'd beaten everytime he faced them. It was the worst feeling imaginable. To this day he says he he'll be haunted by that the rest of his life. I still feel sad for him. The emotional toll this sport puts on the kid AND the parents is UNREAL! There is a silver lining though, he is a D1 wrestler and relishes the fact he didnt even place when he's beating state champions from IL, NC, Mich, OH etc. My problem is he has a younger brother. Dad dont know if he can go through it again!

My son wrestles for a college that was formerly in the North Central Conference. I will tell you there is some good wrestling there. You have teams like Notre Dame College (2010, 2011 NAIA Champs, and current 2012 NCWA Champs), McKendree (who had a 184 that went like 34-3, who routinely beat DI guys). Both of these teams are transitioning to DII. Grand Valley State and several other club teams such as Michigan, Ohio State, Cincinnati have tough individuals. The NCWA has former DI teams such as Liberty that have tough wrestlers. Of course some of the wrestling isnt all that, but dont think there isnt some really, really good wrestling there. Good luck to Ball State.
