  1. Chad Ruggeri of Mt Vernon could be a name to throw in, his senior season went undefeated, and pretty much came in to the state tournament under the radar and dominated the state finals, with 3 first period pins and a tech fall in the semi finals, not to mention putting on a throwing clinic and pinning Dexter Larimore in the 1st period.

  2. Predictions in bracket order...

    106 Smith Brown Kuhn Fox

    113 Davis LaHue Schoettle Johnson

    120 Shepherd Welch Goebel Johns

    126 Broukal VanHook Pierre Wedding

    132 Marler Hupp Molloy Moody

    138 Kelley Stevenson Lannert Hoehn

    145 Hayhurst McCreary Bassmier Montgomery

    152 Rueger Dallas Richey Burnette

    160 Underwood Oser Warner Tough

    170 King Bowman Warren Mappes

    182 Brandenstein Wathen Thacker Konerding

    195 Haley Jones Maurer Curtley

    220 Collins Knura Bass Boehm

    285 McKee Phillips Suter Wright

  3. Is this the same Blue Nut that predicted a lot more Castle Sectional wrestlers to get out?? Get a clue. Look at the bracket closely??? When I look I see a 2X State Qualifier in Hoehn and nothing from Judy but just a drill partner in the wrestling room.

  4. 138 pounds Hoehn over (#2)Lannert 7-4. Hoehn is a good wrestler but beating somebody like Lannert in my eyes is a huge upset. Considering the facts: Hoehn gets destroyed by Kelley all year, and vice versa with Kelley to Lannert. Unranked wrestler taking down the #2 guy...

I wouldn't exactly call it a huge upset. Yes given the accolades of Lannert placing 4th last year he is clearly the better wrestler on paper, but Hoehn has also been a State Qualifier the past 2 years.  And Kelley destroying Hoehn all year, i don't know where that comes from? Yes he beat him handily the first week of the season, but last week before Conference they were in a 2 point match before Hoehn tried to make something happen at the end to lose by 7. Then Hoehn is up 3 last week with 30 seconds left before losing the lead. Yes I would agree Kelley has his number but far from destroying him. My view, these 3 could wrestle every weekend and it could be a different outcome every time. I can see all 3 of them on the podium this year!

  5. I find it funny that you all get so worked up on somebody else's opinion or prediction of a match that they have no control in determining the outcome. You all have your opinions and I have mine, sometimes we all will agree and most of the time we wont. Don't get bent out of shape just because so and so didn't pick the guy you think will win the match. I don't believe anyone on here has bad mouthed any of these wrestlers. They just simply stated there opinion on who they think will win! No harm in that! If I were these wrestlers reading some of this stuff that some Coaches and Fans are putting on here I would use it as motivation!

But I believe we all can agree that the Central Sectional is hands down the better Sectional. There are some locks in my mind coming out of the Castle Sectional, but far less than the Central Sectional. Just like every year there will be upsets Saturday. That's why you wrestle the matches, every kid who steps foot on that mat has a fighting chance and could be one move away from an upset! Best of luck to ALL wrestlers this weekend! Leave it all on the mat with NO regrets!

My opinion: A great day of wrestling!

  6. Here's what I got for the Castle Sectional moving on...

    106 Brown...maybe Lutz

    113 nobody

    120 Welch

126 Coomer...will be good match with Hoehn

    132 nobody...maybe Allen

    138 nobody...maybe McDaniel

    145 Singleton

    152 Hawkins...good match with Dallas

    160 Oser...maybe Koberstein

    170 Burden?

    182 Konerding, Martin

    195 Halbig, Salkill

    220 Boehm...Henrickson and Barclay possibly.

    285 Breen

  7. The Castle Regional had an issue similar to this a few years ago where a kid claimed he was on weight but missed it during weigh ins and said the scale was tampered with. Only thing different is they called to the State immediately and challenged it and eventually won.  So there is still hope for this young man to get his second chance. Hope it happens, I hate seeing somebodys season and career end like this. Note to all present and future wrestlers, always be at least a half pound under prior to weigh ins. You never know when stuff like this will happen.  Good Luck Spencer!

  8. A lot of the weight classes you could see all 4 from the Central Sectional advance to Semi-State. After Brown, Welch, Oser, and Warren the Castle Sectional is pretty weak. It you place Top 3 at Central your setting yourself up nice for a trip to the new Ford Center.

  9. My prediction is regardless of what weight the kid wrestles, the announcer will mispronounce Hoehn's last name for half the meet.

Very true! It's always pronounced "Hone". The announcer will have twice the practice tho getting it right with there being 2 Hoehn's in the Sectional.

  10. 106: Its a 2 man show with Kuhn and Seng. Kuhn is the obvious pick but don't count out Seng. Kuhn, Seng, Arney, Wilson

113: Tough weight class, in my mind any of the top 6 could win it on a good day. Just depends who shows up and has a good day. Mastison, Stock, Davis, Johnson

120: Same as 113. Goebel, Johnson, Johns, Turi

126: Not sure how healthy VanHook will be. Don't see him on the same level as Wedding with sitting out this long. Wedding, VanHook, Pierre, Hoehn

132: Moody is solid, its a battle for 2nd. Moody, Oakley, Schroeder, Bouchie

138: Lannert is the obvious pick coming off a SIAC title and 4th place finish last year at State, but dont count out Kelley. Kid is tough. Hoehn could make some noise also if he is on. Lannert, Hoehn, Kelley, Petrig.

145: Who wants it??? With Dallas bumping up it at least guarantee's all 4 will get out. Bassmier, Kemper, Hayhurst, Appell

152: Rueger is a lock. It will be a tough battle for 2nd. Rueger, Folz, Dallas, Henshaw

160: Pretty even weight class. Parkinson, Dickens, Colavechia, Rynkiewich

170: King has looked solid all year long and doesn't seem to get credit when credit is due. King, Schneider, Campbell, Blanford

182: Brandenstein, Meyer, Cravens, Meyer.....nice to see Bosse get some kids to Regionals.

195: Nobody will touch Maurer. Maurer, Brown, Lane, O'Risky

220: I know Schnarr has been out the last half, if he stays healthy it is his weight class. Schnarr, Collins, Pace, Barnes

    285: Wright, Hohl, Little, Mattingly

The beauty of this is these are predictions. The boys still have to show up and earn it. It should be a great day of wrestling as it always is at the Central Sectional. Looking forward to Saturday!
