  4. It would be interesting to see what % of coaches that complain about the new system are the same coaches that sent JV kids to the old team tournament events. (Which is what I believe ultimately killed the IHSAA team state)

As a coach for a team that has been invited to this years team state tournament, I think the current system is great. (I could be bias)  Is the current system 100% fool proof? No, but neither was the old system.  Short of every team wrestling every other team, there isn't a practical way to ensure that everyone has an equal/fair shot to be in the "top 8." This is true of the old or new system, someone will always feel slighted.  What this new system does do is PREDICT POTENTIAL.  Are the top 8 teams invited going to be the absolute best 8 in the state in their respective classes year in and year out? Probably not.  But I'd be willing to bet they invite the best 2 or 4 teams every year.  Aren't we ultimately trying to decide who the CHAMPION is, not the 6th place finisher?

Its frustrating to read all of the posts telling us how terrible this new system is without any alternative ideas from the complainers.  I think most people agree that a team state tournament is important... So how do we make it better?  How do we, as a wrestling community, show the IHSAA that it is important and WE want to make it work? Certainly not by trying to degrade the current system or sending JV teams into the old tournament. Why would the IHSAA take us seriously?

    As for rankings:

I cant begin to imagine how difficult it would be to compare all 350+ schools and rank them accordingly.  For example, how could you begin to compare Twin Lakes to Jasper? I'd be willing to bet TL and Jasper go through the entire season and never have a common opponent.  It seems like it would be incredibly difficult to get an accurate comparison of teams state wide.  Additionally, how many teams have wrestled an event thus far with their entire varsity line-ups in their correct weights? 2 or 3 kids out or at different weights could change a teams strength (or weakness) significantly.  Rankings become more clear as the sample size increases but there will always be questions.  Do I think TL deserves to be ranked #4 in class AA? Probably not, but I think we will all(myself included) have a better idea of who belongs where in 2 weeks and a better idea yet 2 weeks after that.

I think what is being done with the current system and rankings is a great step in the right direction.  Continuing to focus on how terrible the current team state or rankings are draws the focus away from how to improve Indiana wrestling.  Lots of hard work goes into the team tournament and rankings... and all of that work is to ensure that these kids have the best possible experience in wrestling. Lets not forget that that is really the goal here.

  6. Really? Like anything i said about hileman was false? He went 39-2 or 40-2 all season, he also beat athe logan regional champ madrano earlier in season & was the best wrestler in that weight class

Hileman was 10% of himself that day, his conditioning is what made him so good he could go 100% for 6+ minutes, he wore kids down. Colin had a serious cold, i think dr said broncitu if i remember, horrible timing for any wrestler

Colin didnt "choke" he was sick, any wrestler knows without lungs, you have no gas, conditioning is huge

I have 0 doubt a healthy hileman wins that weight class

So, dont come at me like i dont know wrestling, yes im loyal to my vikings but im not stupid in picking out good/ greatwwrestlers

I think i finished 3 or 4 overall last yr in the state pick ems....

Lost some respect for you brian, 3 yrs ago we chatted regularly when i was in usmc traveling the US & your son a freshman, had good conversations, you were humble & nice, i supported your son, TL, county wrestler..

3 yrs later, your not the same guy. Your sons success has changed you & im not the only one who has noticed. You act like your better then most parents/dads... Look down on NW & our fans, the attitude of chris has definitely rubbed off on you.

    Sad but true...

No need to PM either, we can chat in person like men if want to discuss this, im sure ill see you around

I'm confused... Did Blake's success or my poor attitude change Brian??  And how did I get involved in this? Either way, I look forward to the day that we get to "chat in person like men" because I'm sure a devildog wouldn't "come at" someone they have never met or talked to.

  10. It looks like very few people are posting the individual results. I think every one wants to see how kids from there area perform and if the results are not put on hear then know will no how their doing. Also i beleive the guys who do the rankings use these post to help them keep them up to date and accurate. What i do is when things are done ask your teams coach to see the score book and take a picture of it. It has individual names, scores for each match plus the team score. Just a suggestion but i think everyone on hear would like to see them.

i also beleive know won nos how to post they're results because know won can understand what ewe have typed.  But no one wants to here me complain on hear...

  11. Sorry, gotta disagree with you on this one. At every h.s. dual meet ive been to over the last 6 years i havent ever seen coaches standing behind their bench. There have always been chairs for coaches to sit at at the edge/corner of the mat, away from their wrestlers and coaches typically occupy those chairs.

    NFHS Wrestling Rule Book 2-2-1

For dual meets, all team personnel, including coaches, other than actual participating contestants shall be restricted to an area which is at least 10 feet from the edge of the mat and the scorer's table, where facilities permit.

  12. 24 Semi-State Qualifiers from TL Sectional

32 Semi-State Qualifiers from LJ Sectional

The Jeff Sectional did dominate the finals. Harrison is extremely tough, and BC showed up to wrestle!

Here is my breakdown of our Regionals chances at Semi-State:

106  Tough weight class.  Harrison looks to be the only one with a real shot.  South Newton has an outside chance but I only say that because he is a senior.

113  The top 3 all have a chance to make it out. TL wrestled really well and got a favorable draw. LC and BC are both great wrestlers, but neither will have an easy road.

120  It will be tough for any of them to make it out... this year. LJ is a great wrestler that always shows up for the tournament and TL is a tough Freshman with a bright future.

126  You can never call anyone a "lock" to make it out, but TL is close. The Harrison wrestler impressed me and has a real chance to make it through.

132 Tough draw for a great BC wrestler.  To me, he was probably the most impressive wresltler Saturday.  McCutcheon and TL have outside chances, but they will have to wrestle well!

138  Rensselaer works hard enough to make it through here.  Harrison also has a shot.

    145  Not this year

152  Harrison and TL both have what it takes to stay in each match... Can either pull off a big win? I'll let you know Sunday.

160  McCutheon wrestles well, and will be in the mix.  Can another #3 from the TL sectional advance to state in this weight?? (I hope so)

    170 Not this year

    182Not this year

195  I think this is the Regionals best chance to have all 4 make it through.  Unlikely, but there is a chance.  If TL and BC wrestle their matches, this could be another finals rematch...

220 Harrison has a shot, but I dont think this was a great weight at our Regional.

HWT  I dont see it happening.

I predict 9 State Qualifiers from our Regional, 5 from the Hoosier Conf.
