  1. Is there a schedule posted anywhere (that correlates with the streaming finals) or any brackets?  I have a little brother that's a Junior with a good shot of making the finals and would like to watch him.  It's been a few years since I was frequenting ISWA tournaments and must say I'm pleased with the way the ISWA has embraced technology.

  2. This kid among MANY others have been approached by members of the staff and been asked to come to yorktown..  This is high school!! Coaches should recuit from their own school and own school only to give these young men the opportunity to let wrestling help prepare them for the game of life. So to answer your question if staff members would stay in their on hallways there would not be an issue.

That claim, especially in this case, is completely and demonstrably erroneous.  You are either ignorant, blinded by hate, or woefully misinformed.  Please stop propagating this drivel.  And also, please share with the us the MANY others that have been recruited.  I can name about 10 programs off the top of my head that have several kids in their lineup that do not belong in that program for one reason or another.  Those kids and programs never get mentioned...

  3. Now now ttipton, jealousy is never flattering...

But in all seriousness, this whole recruiting diatribe is so tired and unconvincing.  I highly doubt you are aware of the circumstances surrounding each of the so-called "hired guns."

Judge not, that ye be not judged.

  4. Declining grades were the problem?  If Yorktown is so intellectually advanced, the competition is going to force his grades down further.

Two good rules of thumb:  (1) when they say it's not about the money, it's about the money; and (2) when they say it's not about the athletics, it's about the athletics.

How so?  Most high schools I know don't grade on a curve...

I was born/raised/schooled in Madison County and will say without reservation that Yorktown is the premier public high school in the area.  You can argue metrics and cite empirical evidence but that school churns out far better students year after year.  Compare the colleges the grads attend (top to bottom) and the average scholarship money.  I'm not saying a good school is the cure-all, as the student has to put in the work.  But these decisions aren't made in a vacuum and there are often mitigating factors.  For people who participate in (are are serious about) athletics, sports are often an important selling point.  If they end up at a better school what's the big deal?

I know of two (and I know both very well) wrestlers at another top program who are essentially attending the high school for wrestling purposes.  I think both kids are excellent and have bright futures (wrestling notwithstanding), but am unsure why nobody is up in arms over the kids that successfully transfer (or attend a different school entirely) every day purely for athletics.  It doesn't just happen in wrestling, either.

Any way, there's no reason to judge when you don't have all the specifics.  And whoever mentioned that good programs don't have to recruit, you are absolutely correct.

  5. I can't speak for every wrestler that's ever transferred to Yorktown, but Yorktown is a great high school academically and far better than anything Madison County has to offer, with the exception of maybe Pendleton Heights (which would be almost a 30 minute drive from Alexandria; Yorktown on the other hand is about 10 minutes away).  Also the student population is, on average, far more driven and intellectually advanced.  The fact that Yorktown also has a great wrestling program is really just a plus (it also doesn't hurt that many of these kids have wrestled there at the club level for 10+ years).  Again, I can't speak for everyone, but I know several of the wrestlers intimately and really cannot say enough good things about them and their respective families.  I know for a fact that Anderson High School's graduation rate wasn't even 60% in 2010, while their rate for black males was 39%, which was the lowest in the state.  You cannot tell me you would send your child to such a school.

  6. Agreed, LoneSoldier.  No way the Pacers go bankrupt/leave the city.  Never going to happen.  Also, why the hatred towards basketball?  Is it not possible to like multiple sports?  This whole tenet that wrestling is inherently more noble or superior to basketball makes me giggle.  I'm a former wrestler, but college basketball is undoubtedly my favorite sport.  Sacrilege, I know.  I guess I am a bit of an iconoclast...

  7. WC182Dad- Have you ever discussed with your aforementioned son how he feels about your amaranthine love for posting and prognosticating about all things wrestling?  I frequent this site on occasion and am always intrigued by your omnipresence and unabashed, sometimes hostile, posts (not to mention your grammar- ghastly).  Anyhow, perhaps you should seek another outlet?

  8. no doubt.....that would be something.....but i think brooks would get him fairly convincingly......as good as boston is, the age difference at this point is huge.....just the "man strength" that comes into play being a couple of years older is their main difference......obvioulsy their skill levels on par with each other.....what a match it would be though....

Agreed.  I would bet a fairly large sum that it wouldn't even be close.  All these prognosticators don't seem to understand 103 (along with heavyweight) is probably the easiest class to win.

I now only follow wrestling due to family/friends participating but have noticed how lately many of the stronger weightclasses are the lower ones...back when I was in school (5-10) years ago the strongest weights were always 130-152 or thereabouts.  Just a random musing, but intriguing nonetheless.

    He shoots.........HE SCORES!

    :D

I've been reading this forum off and on for about a year now, but have never posted.

Most seem all too willing to share their thoughts and opinions, and as such, I am quite curious to hear the speculation and conjecture surrounding Mr. Dulaney and the kids he recruits.  To which recruits are you referring?
