  1. I did a little more homework (not much more), and here would be my All Evansville (SIAC) team with current weight classes.

    106- Alan Grammer (Reitz)

    113 - Craig Macke (MD)

    120 - Greg Schaeffer (MD)

    126 - Anthony Williams (Central)

    132 - Darren Grimwood (Harrison)

    138 - Craig Weinzapfel (MD)

    145 - Thad Oldham (Castle)

    152 - Dustin Nosko (MD)

    160 - Matt Coughlin (MD)

    170 - Doug Welch (Castle)

    182 - Chad Welch (Castle)

    195 - Blake Maurer (MD)

    220 - James Brimm (Central)

    285 - Pat Mayes (Castle)

This list would be fine for the last 10-15 years but history no.

There were wrestlers in SIAC that beat some of the people on this list, there are a couple of of old timers that should be on this list, Chip Elderkin should be on this list at 106, Harp from Reitz Tom Zenthoefer a couple of Boots from 70's, Reitz had more than I can remember Brady French comes to mind Central had a few.

Someone needs to find someone that kept the newspaper articles from over the years and we can sit down drink a beer(if you are old enough) and make a list of the top three for each weight class.I think the list would be different then what is posted because there have been some really good wrestlers out of this area that are forgotten due to the recent influx of good wrestlers to come through.

  2. Wow! to wrestle a season with a torn ACL is amazing and making it to the State Finals match with this injury is freaking awesome. This gut is one tough young Man, I have seen guys in the Navy with this injury who could hardly walk after tearing an ACL and this young man wrestled a full season that is wow trying to come up with the word/words for this is difficult.

Mr. Berry you may not have won a state championship BUT you have the heart of a champion and then some if you can finish a wrestling season with a torn ACL you can accomplish anything. Good Luck to you in your future.

  3. This was the first round. In OT, the ref gave a takedown to the Greencastle kid to win the match. There was no control and if anything, it should have been a stalemate. The entire stadium saw it and reacted, it was a legitimate bad call. I am typically not negative towards the officiating, but at this stage that call should have been obvious. Its not the way a top tier senior should have to end his career, but thats the sport and it happens all the time.

I am not a Castle fan BUT this had to be one of the worst calls I have seen in 35 years of watching this sport. Coach Harmon tried to argue the point and I thought he had it overturned and inthe end he got the shet end of the stick.

  4. Ethan Farmer over Blake Rueger 1-0 at 152

Very close with a couple of calls would of could of should of but didnt get called. I will say Farmer did a great job of wrestling today and as long as he has some of the same refs next week he will be able to sit on an oppenent and ride them out for a win but Congrats to him because he is the Semi State CHAMP and it wasnt an easy task with 2 of the top 3 he beat today.

  5. Seen a lot of great wrestling today even though I was extremly cold all day and wondered if I was that cold how were these wrestlers able to move. Seen several wrestlers have to put their warm ups on while waiting for the ref's to show up.

Did see a few wrestlers with good sportsmanship and others let their emotions get the better of them(Cant blame them with whats at stake).

Congrats to those who have advaced to state next week and those who did not advance remember if you go to watch be sure to cheer on our wrestlers from Southern Indiana no matter what team they are from we need to support our wrestlers from our regionals and Semi state

  6. I think the best bet would be to get in touch with the referee that was "jumping on the scale to humor a coach" and get him to "man-up" and admit he may have altered the operation of a scale just before the most important weigh-in of this young man's career.  I would hope that if he would come forward and admit to the action, you would have a very good case.

I feel bad for the kid but the ref that was jumping on the scale more then likely will not come forward and admit to this, it would take away from the power of the zebra shirt.

  7. Can't a wrestler be DQ'd for that? I can understand the looking at the coach with a WTH look but you are there to wrestle the coach is there to coach and stand up for the wrestler. I aalso understand people get emotional but there still needs to be composure.

  8. Trajan Pride I respect you for at least being honest that catholic schools have a distinct advantage.  So if you have this advantage why do they not want to move up.  Don't they see that it is unfair for a school of 250 to be able to hand pick who they allow in thier school to wrestle?

You should let it go because it does not matter how much effort you put into pushing Mater Dei away from Adams/South Adams or whatever school it is you support the people reading this board can not make the small Catholic school bump up or down.

With the recuirtment of wrestlers to Mater Dei do you think they would not go for the Welch twins from Castle over the last four years or the little brother or the little Brown from Castle or Stein from Princeton. I could list others but last year with those additional wrestlers they would of won team state. But instead they enlisted the help of mathmaticians to figure away to beat the odds and decided to take the best wrestlers and breed them with the best female atheletes and come up with their recruits/superhuman teenagers and modifiy them to ensure they have the best in Southern Indiana from 100 LBS to 285 LBS and all this was taking into consideration of the 200-250 kid count.

  9. You referring to the same brother who placed at state and the same reservist who flunked off the team and then got beat (decisively) by that brother the next time they wrestled when he was eligible again?  Just checking for clarity.

The comment I made earlier was wrong of me and I should not of said tha because I think Brown is a good wrestler. About the older Brown I thought he beat the other kid from MD and not the same kid. but the other kid did have trouble with grades.

  10. Didn't they give up more than a few pins to the Hobart team that almost knocked them off around the beginning of Team State in the mid 90's?

MD gave up 3 pins to Hobart and may have given 3 to ST. ED's in 86-87
  11. I am a fan of neither team but was in attendance on Saturday.  My opinion:

    1. The stalling call against Fuqua to tie the match w/ 1 sec. left was a horrible call.

    2. The 2nd stalling call in OT was legit.  He was blocking w/ his head and backing out.

    3. The stalling call given to Shrewbury to tie the match w/ less than 5 sec left in the match was a gift and seemed to be a makeup call by the ref since the MD guy did tons of stalling in the 2nd period but was only warned one time.

    4. Many times all MD did on bottom was work to not get turned.  Many times I thought they made no move to get up off bottom..with few or no stalling calls against MD

    5. MD stole this match from CP.  CP was the more agressive team and MD always knew where the out of bounds line was at and I don't believe that they were penalized for stalling nearly as much as they should have been.

Both teams had bad calls against them but the ref with the number 8 had called some of the worst calls against both teams. The ref with number 1 on his back reffed both matches must of been affected by the #8 ref or split the money(only joking) The reffing was inconsistent at best.

MD won against CP and were beat by a team that wanted it more than the MD wrestlers.

  12. 1. I do not know all rules that the Ihsaa has for wrestling, but was over hearing talks in the crowd that CP could have had a DQ for the 160 match due to the coach sending the wrestler on the mat to wrestle 152 and then pulling him to wrestle 160. I was told that once you check in to wrestle at the table you wrestle or you don't, you can not check in to wrestle 2 different weights.

    2. I think Coach V put the blame on himself to pasify the parents and his fans, but someone on his coaching staff should of known the rules even if he was confused about them. He sounds like he is making excuses to the media and playing the WHAT IF game.

    3. Who was the man the came out of the stands in a CP tee shirt and NO FLOOR PASS?

    4. Congratulations to the CP Team on an impressive year and for very exciting match against MD.

  13. I've seen MD wrestle this year and think like most of  the people on here it will be a close team meet. CP has 2 of the better wrestlers that  I will say win with a tech fall but I don't see Lannert getting pinned has too much heart and Riggs the same. If this was a MD team of previous years I would say there would be NO pins, but they are not and have seen some give up pins without much of a fight. This will be the match to watch of the day

  14. made it to the finals his frosh year?  Lost to Matt Deters in ot. did he ever make it back?

and Macke is right up there

    [/quote

He made it back ever year after that. The Ref was later qouted as saying the Head Deters match was his worst regret as a ref. Gave it to Deters because he was a sr and Head was only fr and knew he would make it back.  It was a close match either way.
