1. I feel like i'm alone on this wall. It's a girl who made a decision to wrestle with boys. We are taught to leave emotion at the door. I've wrestled girls before and you are more conscience about not hitting a high crotch or a butt drag or even pinning them with your stuff in their face. I bring this up because you are mentally conscience that you are wrestling a girl and should respect them at all times. But to forfeit your season because you don't want to wrestle a girl is your problem. Do you think that girl wanted to win like that. It's bad for our sport. Go out there and wrestle her.

  2. This is a young man that I would be happy to have dating/marrying my daughter (at least if the rest of his decisions are as mature and noble as this one).

Everything in my competitive body says, "Wrestle her like you would anyone else, and drop a few hard cross-faces on the bridge of her nose for good measure!"

But my mind knows this is garbage. I was born with the ability to reason, and so I can tell that there is a difference between girls and boys. Young ladies should be treated like young ladies, whether they act like it or not -- not just because it is best for them, but because it is best for the young man also.

This should never have been permitted, and it is a testament to our decline and confusion as a society that it is.

  3. I assure ya connor wouldn't be excited if he was hurt he would want to have a shot to beat a Healthy Wench.

This has to be the quote of the day. I've never really been into that sort of thing, but I guess it helps to have goals in life, no matter how... odd... they may be.

  4. Gotta give a shout out to Delphi. While they are small in comparison to the CP's, MD's and Perry's they usually have a pretty good showing based on their enrollment.

Actually, the enrollment at MD is only 531 -- 24 students more than that of Delphi. Perhaps it is easier to have a great fan base when the school has such a small, family feel to it. At any rate I am happy to hear that the community supports the program there. That's really the best way to ensure long term success.

  5. I disagree with the last part of your post. A healthy John Sims still wouldn't beat Welch in my opinion. He was 0-5 against the Welch twins last year. If Sims wins his first two matches next week at Semi-State, is he going to Inj. Def. the next two? He would meet Welch in the semis if both of them make it to that point.

I didn't say he would beat Welch, I said he was capable of beating Welch. He did lose the matches last year, but if memory serves they were very tight matches. I think Welch would certainly be the favorite, I just don't think it would be a big upset if Sims were to win. As I said above, he is (thus far) a 3x state placer who is ranked 3rd in the state -- with a resume like that it is hard to call any win a big upset.

As far as next week goes, I suppose that will depend on how his hip is doing by then. As the real goal is the State Finals, I don't think they will push it next week if they think doing so would jeopardize his ability to wrestle at Conseco.

  6. So, I presume it is clear now to Grap41 that Sims is still battling with an injury. I do apologize for the insult, but I got a little indignant that you were claiming he was ducking competition. The kid has been a trooper for 4 years now, overcoming the death of his father just before the tournament his freshman year and placing at state his first three years (6th, 4th, 5th). The thought that he would have ducked out of a match (or two) because he was scared of the opponent is crazy. But then I guess you didn't know that. . .

So anyway, I would hate to be the regional champion that draws Sims first round next week :-[. He has to dig himself out of a hole now, but a healthy John Sims is capable of beating anyone in the field.

  7. NICE....kinda like a pitcher who has a hang nail and can't pitch. I guess you can't figure it out but why would he not TRY for a possible 1 or 2 seed? Curiouser. And curiouser ...hmmm now is going for 3 or 4. Why would any one in our most awesome and tough sport do that? I guess you probably would...but I have watched a lot of kids in the last 40 years tough it out and compete. ....btw...guess I have friends all over the gym....even over in the red and gold...they were chuckling also....

Dude did you ever wrestle? WOW....oh and way to get personal with the jack... comment...you.have such an expansive repitoire ...that's as personal as I get LOL

Why would he not TRY? Because he has been hampered by an injury most of the season, all the way through the conference tournament (which he didn't participate in) and likely wants to wrestle only the matches needed to advance to state. Then he gets another week to heal.

You have yet to propose a serious explanation for forfeiting. It makes no sense to forfeit to "duck" competition when it means that he will face tougher competition to advance next week. So in your eyes he is just scared, so he is willing to take a lower place this week and next week just to avoid wrestling these two?

  8. guess my sources were right but he was even ducking ri ckenbaugh also. I am sorry but this doesnt show anyone much and the crowd wasnt silent......they were laughing. ...all i. An say is that it will come back haunt him in semi state. He couldnt have been hurt because he breezed through his 1st match.....all he is doing is ducking to try and keep a decent seed.....SAD BUT ...........

Reality check there Grap, if he wasn't injured there is no point to doing this, precisely because there IS NO MORE SEEDING! His position at semistate will be determined solely by his placement at regionals, and this forfeit just got him a worse draw. So if you and your friends are laughing, you are only proving that you are a jack@--.

There is a reason he has only wrestled 15 matches this year, and it doesn't have anything to do with ducking competition.

  9. Boonville crowd goes wild as 171 Brandenstein loses to Haire 13-2

Thus ends the question of MD sending 14. I had a feeling they would lose one or two, but I didn't figure Brandenstein would be one of them. Haire must be pretty tough.

  10. catmancold,polywannatrophy......

Sat at regionals lets see if you guys are objective.. or if u will BOOO when u loose and cheer wildly when u win

    /hate me feelings mutual

I will say that I, personally, will not boo when a MD wrestler loses, and I see nothing "unobjective" about cheering wildly when my wrestler wins. I would also clap (though less enthusiastically) when he loses, and that for both wrestlers, provided it was a well fought match.

If you stay out of prison long enough to go to any matches, I hope you maintain yourself with more dignity than you do here.

  11. Stick,

You seem to have a real problem with objective reporting. There was no "excuse" proffered for the wins of the Castle wrestlers, catman was simply reporting the lineup change. If he did not mention that MD had changed out one of its wrestlers, but only reported "160 - Welch won by techfall!" we would all be shocked that Sims (or Mangold, or Weinzapfel) was absolutely dominated. This is not an excuse, but an explanation of what actually happened. Incidentally, I didn't read any complaints or excuses involving the refs either.

When excuses are made, I'll be the first to agree that they are futile and petty. Until then, try not to be so sensitive.

  12. It is interesting to see the wide divergence of opinion in these projections.

Out of the 13 or 14 MD wrestlers most project to make it to semistate, D145H has them sending on 4 (3 thirds, 1 fourth), and all of these would be the "underdog" on friday night. Thus a third ranked and undefeated MD team boasting 7 wrestlers ranked in the top 16 and 3 in the top 8 would not place a single wrestler and finish with 0 team points.

That's an interesting projection, and it made me wonder if this has happened before. So, I put the question to the board:

Does anyone know of such an "under-perfomance" ever happening before -- not of a single individual being upset, but of an entire team getting wiped out that went into the tournament with elite expectations?
