  3. After watching the 2019 IHSAA state finals again for the 5th time, I would have to say the best, most exciting, back-to-back matches by teammates has to be Rodgers @152 & Slivka @ 160. Elliott needed to win to secure at least a tie in the team race. He was losing late in the third period and it didn’t look like he was going to get it done. Rodgers wins in OT!!!! WOW! Then his teammate Jordan is wrestling a national ranked wrestler, Washington. Jordan, the underdog, gets taken down early and It looks like Washington is in control. If Jordan wins, he secures the title for Cathedral. Jordan had the same scenario last year, where he had to win the clinch the team title. He did it last year and did it again this year. Just an awesome back-to-back performance from both wrestlers. The best I have ever seen by teammates.

disgustingly good... This reminds me of the time seeing lance Ellis and Stephen Bradley coaching together and I thought about the 7 state titles and 335-4 record between the 2 of them... Unreal

NFHS looking to reduce weight classes

Adman Central has had a lay head coach for last 12 years. We hold a free elementary camp each season right before club sign ups. This is always well attended and we pick up some new kids for the club each year. We had 75 elementary club kids this year, our biggest numbers maybe ever. Solid numbers for a 1A school. The other big thing is to build relationships and be visible year round. The youth baseball fields is the place to be in Monroe all summer. Visibility and relationships may be a little easier in a small community where the coaches have grown up.

I’m pretty sure he got the total win record last year. He’ll finally be a senior next year, and I’m told he’s the last Fiechter from that family to wrestle.

NFHS looking to reduce weight classes

Thanks Nick and Maligned for contributing to the conversation. Like the bowling tournament idea. We have three elementary schools so I am looking for a way to reach out to them to get the sixth graders into the middle school program. Nick: Steal away. Almost surely stole all of them myself!!

For sure, being a lay coach makes it more difficult to reach the kids. So let's hear from some our lay coaches who have good numbers. How do you reach kids? I send an e-mail to every sixth grade boy to get them info on joining football and wrestling. The school sends my approved e-mail for me. My middle school principal even had mailing labels printed so I can send every kid a letter, too.

There's another Fiechter, William, who qualified for state last year. I think they may now lead the way in family victories. William has at least one more year, maybe two.

I wrestled from '76 - '79 and 2 went from sectional to regional.

At least back to 90-91 it was 2. I know in the 70s, at least until 1976-77, only one from sectional went to regional. Not sure when or how things evolved between those two markers.

Probably have to find non-creepy ways to get around kids outside of wrestling practice days...Taking your MS and HS wrestlers to support other sports' teams, the bowling tournament or similar idea as an open event sponsored by the wrestling team, developing relationship with other sports' coaches and school administrators and getting permission to come in and do pitches during school or other sports' practices...etc.

    Past regional qualifiers

I've been updating my teams history book since I've been head coach. One thing I plan on adding by request is regional qualifiers. I have it up dated from 2002-2019. I know where the year books are on the ihsaa site. What I need is a time line of what qualifed for regionals from sectionals. I know in 2002-2003 the moved it from 2 to 4. Was it always two before then? Or was it ever a different number.
