ELKHART — Elkhart Memorial did not let the Elkhart Sectionalwrestling trophy leave the building — again.

For the fourth straight time and 23rd in program history, the Crimson Chargers won the sectional team championship.

Head coach Brian Weaver, who has watched his program go through upheaval this season with coaching changes and early dual-match losses, saw his wrestlers piled up 228 points — 54 more than runner-up NorthWood — Saturday, Jan. 31, at Elkhart Memorial High School.

"The kids have worked very hard and stayed focused," said Weaver, who watched Marcus Mejia (120), Tony Vaughn (145), Phillip Mathiak (160), Nick Ritchie (170) and David Eli (182) win their respective weight classes. "They have a drive."

The top four placers in each of 14 weight classes earned a spot in the Goshen Regional Saturday, Feb. 7. Memorial led the way Saturday with 12 regional qualifiers.

"That shows a lot of work on their part," said Weaver. "They know what they need to do in the practice room. They know what their weak areas are what they need to work on to get stronger."

Fairfield's Blake Glogouski moved to 44-0 by reigning at 113.

Glogouski welcomes the challenge of being unbeaten.

"It makes me wrestle harder," said Glogouski.

Other climbing to the top of the victory stand Saturday were NorthWood's Tanner DeMien (106) and Michael Leonard (195), Jimtown's J.D. Greathouse (126), Jay Franko (138), Marquis Schieber (152) and Elkhart Central's Jamal Scott (132), Eliseo Guerra (220) and Issac Barrios (heavyweight).
