dstruck Posted July 28, 2011 Share Posted July 28, 2011 Wrestling Portion of "All-Sports Camp" a Huge Success NEWS AND TRIBUNE Yesterday - Wednesday July 27th - the Jeff High Wrestlers put on a wrestling clinic from 1 to 4 for the youth of Clark County. As a part of the All-Sports Camp provided by the Jeffersonville Parks Department the Jeff wrestlers put on a 3 hour clinic including tumbling drills, strength training, combative games, wrestling drills and strength and stamina contests for the 27 boys that participated in the camp. The boys ranged in ages from kindergarten through 6th grade. The clinic started off with 10 minutes of tumbling drills (cartwheels, forward rolls, walking on hands, etc..), and speed development drills (box jumps, jump rope, foot ladders, etc....) then moved into a 20 minute weight training introduction where the k-7th graders learned techniques in the back squat, power cleans, military presses, and deadlifts using PVC piping. After that they Jeff High Wrestlers took them through wrestling moves including the single leg, double leg, headlock, and half nelson. They also taught them wrestling games such as sharks and minnows, and king of the ring. During the clinic there were also some strength contests where they boys competed in a pull up bar hang to see who could stay up the longest, a most push ups contest and an Iron Chair contest to see who could stay in a squat position the longest. Thank you to Kevin Cain, Jordan Schremp, Jordan McNeeley, Elijah Curtley, Greg Ferraro, Spencer Keiger, Brandon Marlin, Justin Cunningham, Jackson Ferraro, and Mac Burns for running the clinic. All participants received a Navy Seal Key Chain and a Wrestling poster. Winners of contests and games received a free meal from Zaxby's.
