Boiler Wrestling Inks Six Recruits

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue wrestling team signed six recruits to national letters of intent last week, marking a great start to another outstanding recruiting class by Boilermaker head coach Scott Hinkel and his staff. The class consists of Indiana natives Drake Stein, Chad and Doug Welch and Luke Schroeder, Danny Sabatello of Illinois and Rusty Maness of Ohio.

Like every year, the tournament is scheduled to feature some of the top talent in the country, including 12 of the top-25 teams in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll and as many as 82 ranked individuals from the latest InterMat polls

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The No. 23 Purdue wrestling team sits in 15th place with 37 team points after the first day of competition at the 29th-Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Senior Logan Brown is leading the way for the Old Gold and Black, advancing to tomorrow morning's semifinals at 197 pounds, while classmate Luke Manuel became the 15th grappler in school history to earn 100 career victories.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The No. 23 Purdue wrestling team tied for eighth place at the 2010 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitaitonal on Saturday, amassing 68.5 team points at the Las Vegas Convention Center over the two-day event. Tenth-ranked senior Logan Brown paced the Boilermakers, taking second place at 197 pounds with a 4-1 tournament record, while fifth-ranked junior A.J. Kissel was honored with the tournament Most Pins Award.

The Boilermakers go into the weekend looking to defend a 2-0-1 record, while the Tigers sit at 6-3 on the year.

Has anyone found the completed brackets from The Simonson Open at Ashland University? Seven Purdue freshman wrestled there yesterday and I haven't been able to locate the results as yet.

No. 24 Wrestling Falls At No. 17 Northwestern

 

EVANSTON, Ill. - Friday night's Big Ten wrestling dual got out of control quickly as 24th-ranked Purdue surrendered the first six matches in a 32-6 loss at No. 17 Northwestern University. The Boilermakers fell to 5-7-1 overall and 0-4 in conference action, while Northwestern improved to 16-2 (4-2 Big Ten).

No. 24 Purdue Upsets No. 6 Wisconsin, 18-16

 

MADISON, Wis. - The 24th-ranked Purdue wrestling team pulled off an 18-16 upset victory at No. 6 Wisconsin on Sunday, improving to 6-7-1 on the year and picking up its first Big Ten Dual victory. The Boilermakers got a huge lift at 125 pounds as freshman Camden Eppert scored his first career fall to improve to 9-11 on the season.
