Perry Meridian wrestling team goes deep by Steve Brooks

 

Perry Meridian High School's wrestling team looks like the favorite to win its fifth straight Marion County Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Decatur Central.

 

That's because 11 of the second-ranked Falcons' 14 wrestlers are seeded fourth or higher. Three are No. 1s, and three are undefeated.

State meet's allure capitivates New Pal's Corman by Steve Brooks

 

New Palestine wrestler J.R. Corman had big plans for last season.

 

As a sophomore the year before, Corman wrestled in the state meet at 135 pounds, where he just missed placing with an overtime loss to Eastern's Chad Barrett.

Brownsburg notches win over rival Avon by Chris Nelsen

 

The Brownsburg wrestling team has lived in the shadows of Hendricks County rival Avon for years, but times could be changing.

 

The Bulldogs, who are led by seniors Justin Fuller and Chris Oaks, beat Avon 34-27 in a dual meet Dec.10 to improve their record to 11-0. The Orioles are the five-time defending county champions.

Zionsville wrestlers gauge their progress by Patrick Dorsey

 

For Zionsville wrestling coach Bob Brennan, the beginning of the season serves one major purpose: To get his team ready for the end of it.

 

So although Brennan and the Eagles "were a little disappointed," he said, about placing sixth among eight teams at last Saturday's Eagle Invitational, it wasn't disastrous. Far from it.

Center Grove, Franklin are favorites in county wrestling tournament by Michael Pointer

 

Center Grove has had some success in snapping Franklin's stranglehold on the Johnson County wrestling scene in recent years, and coach Cale Hoover said it would be quite an accomplishment to keep that going in the county meet Saturday at Indian Creek.

 

"The results I've seen, it looks like they're off to a pretty good start," Hoover said. "We're off to a little bit of slow start because of (waiting on some football players). We've had a few injuries.
