Pair of Jeff Grapplers compete at Army Nationals

Two Jeffersonville High School wrestler, Alonzo Shepherd and Brandon Marlin, competed at the US Army Midwest Nationals on July 11 in Bloomington ILL. There were a total of 903 wrestlers competing from 13 states, some as far away as Arizona, Georgia and Maryland.

 

Shepherd competed in the 9th and 10th grade 110.7 pound weight class andoutlasted his opponents to take home the championship.  He pinned Ben Duncleer of Illinois in the first match.

 

In the second matc, Shpherd came away with a close 3-2 victory over Tyler Vicary, also of Illinois.  In the championship match, he defeated Dante Patrick a highly ranked high school wrestler from Arizona  5-2.

 

Marlin competed in the ninth and 10th grade 177.1 pound weight class, he came away with a runner up finish.  He posted a first round victory over Jason Reindhardt of Illinois.  In the second round he came away with a close 3-1 win over Illinois Luke McClimmens.  In the finals , Marlin could not overcome the speed of Ivory Blackwell, also of Illinois, in a 10-2 loss.
