DOING CITY PROUD

City Wrestling

Nick Dettmann

Staff Writer

MICHIGAN CITY - Garrett Payne was already a tough wrestler his freshman and sophomore years.

He was even better his junior and senior years.

Payne, a 140-pound wrestler for Michigan City, went 59-12 in his final two years with the Wolves, including a pair of sectional championships, a regional championship and a pair of trips to the semi-state ticket round.

Payne finished with 117 career victories. That is believed to be the most in school history since the consolidation.

Those accolades, plus his hard work and talent, landed him an opportunity to wrestle at Wabash College next fall.
