  1. Better step away from the computer for a minute and get some fresh air. Or try a snickers...
  2. What about Crary vs Molloy? Upset brewing?
  3. Bocock and the Lebanon team are tough. I enjoyed watching them at New Castle and would like to see them at team state.
  4. I understand how good Cummings and Tirana are. I was responding to MCJAC as to what would be the most lopsided weight at state meet.
  5. Lebanon has an impressive team. I enjoyed watching them yesterday. Good luck next weekend.
  6. Really? You may be right, but Cummings did not even win by Major Decision in semis. Nick Lee and Chad Red have absolutely destroyed everyone thus far. I would lean towards those guys having the most lopsided victories.
  7. The burden of proof lies with those wishing to change the status quo. Good luck presenting a major change to the IHSAA that the wrestling community does not remotely aggree on. Single class supporters have all the proof they need...show up next weekend and see it.
  8. Great idea Bolt. I can see the headlines now: Don't miss the friendship meet this week between Portage and East Chicago. Score will not be kept and both guys will have their hands raised after the match.
  9. Success to me is based on reaching one's potential not based on awards. (A la John Wooden's philosophy- sorry for the basketball coach reference!) Google my avatar Willie Burton (ESPN E60). He only won 1 match in his high school career BUT, given his circumstances, he is more "successful" than most people I know. His post-season tournament run lasted a mere 40 seconds BUT he reached his full potential....that is success in my opinion (again, and again, most guys are not state champs, although that is usually the goal it does not determine absolute success, neither does state qualification, etc etc.) Willie briefly discusses quitting Special Olympic sports because it was not competitive enough for him and "everyone gets a trophy". Great story narrated by Dan Gable.
  10. Are you saying Oak Hill and Cherubusco kids are not successful? FYI- You don't know their situation. Again, wrestling is one of the greatest sports in my opinion. It teaches great life lessons to to any young man brave enough to step on to the mat ( whether they are a sectional qualifier or state champion). No need to add little league "don't get your feelings hurt" trophies.
  11. Perry took some hits yesterday losing a few Regional champs; Brett Johnson , Napier. Plus they lost Warren, Milner, riddle who were potential SQs. Side note: Elliott vs bailey was worth the price of admission. Elliott is fun to watch on his feet. He is very smooth. Bailey is a master of the scramble. He is very quick and has great hips. This weight class is loaded at state.
  12. Ask the EMD and South Adams kids what their formula for success is. It will probably involve a lot of time and hard work...or something crazy like that.
  13. This formula of staying at one school for 10-15 years and building a program is too much work for most people. All you have to do is go to the nearest successful program and ride their coat tails...it is much easier. Ask the South Adams Studs if they are not on the same level as the others. I believe they are.
  14. Great point. A varsity wrestler at Penn has essentially already had to win a sectional-like tournament just to make varsity. We should class Penn High School Sports ( and Carmel and Warren and BD, etc) because it's just not fair to the kids who don't make varsity!
  15. If you read Hooks book he illustrates this type of upstart with the Mater Dei program. They took many lumps along the way, but they kept going and going. Small successes led to bigger ones and so on and so on...the next thing you know they got a couple signature wins and the community started supporting the team. Or we could just skip the years of hard work and dedication (see Perry, EMD, Bellmont, Yorktown, South Adams, Oak Hill, etc.) and just add more classes and state qualifiers. I prefer the Perry, EMD, Bellmont, Yorktown, South Adams, Oak Hill, etc. route. No one said it was easy.
  16. Parris wbf over James in 2nd period. Good match with a couple good scrambles up to that point. Parris is impressive...especially for a frosh?
  17. Good luck to Harris today. I am sure he made his mother and father proud on and off the wrestling mat. Tough young man.
  18. Neccdad- Great post. I think you are spot on. There was a dad on here last year that did/said exactly what you mentioned. He was upset because his son went to some grand wrestling camp and when he was registering at the beginning of the week the coach of a D1 program asked this guys son: D1 coach: " where are you from?" Kid: "Indiana" Coach: " did you make it to state meet?" Kid: "no, I made it to semi-state" The dad goes on to say that the coach did not show any interest in his kid the whole week of camp. BUT, if Indiana would have had a watered down class system his kid would have gotten some attention from said D1 coach. So I ask, "Is your kid a D1 caliber kid? Because most D1 caliber kids in Indiana are 3-4x state qualifiers" Dad says, "no" Then what are you complaining about? That your little Jimmy/Johnny can't say he is a state qualifier???? Most wrestlers are not state champs! It doesn't mean that wrestling is not an excellent sport. It teaches many great life lessons to those who are brave enough to step on a mat (whether you are a sectional qualifier or state champ). Afraid soccer moms/dads have infiltrated our great sport.
  19. Thank you Thor! Those who are not super competitive will not understand this point though. They just want the empty title....why? I don't know.
  20. You still helped grow that program even if those kids knew you by name or not.
  21. ^ just to clarify....I am actually not calling you Beautiful, Joe.
  22. But the beautiful thing is that YOU helped plant the seeds in that program that allowed your program to grow to another level. You contributed indirectly to these young men who went a step further than you, whether you realize it or not. I prefer the Perry, EMD, Bellmont, Yorktown, South Adams, Oak Hill, etc. route.
  23. It wouldn't hurt anything per se. I just firmly believe we have a top notch tournament series as it is. Class the Team portion and leave individual tourney alone. Good point Decebell, but with all due respect, I still don't like the notion of classing individual portion. Just my opinion. I will shut up now and not continue to high jack your thread and hard work! Lol
