  3. Well this topic went a bit sideways.

The intent of my original post and topic was that we as coaches have a responsibility to see that injury time isn't abused.  There is a difference between an injury and using the injury timeout to collect your thoughts, breath, escape a situation, etc.

If we as a wrestling community are ok with using injury timeout as a strategy, well then my friends, we are no better than basketball and that's a direction I would rather not take.

Also, single class wrestling sucks, there, that should get this topic headed in the right direction...

For all of you guys keeping receipts on what I am guessing is a kid who is shaking up the board.
Do you think Crown Points coaches are going to keep these receipts and comments for if/when they are back on top.

Coach Hawkins sent me a text this morning asking us to Ban @DawgPoundRed I’ll talk to Joe about it but I am not for censorship unless it’s something really offensive and not someone bragging on their squad

everyone is celebrating CP failure and trying to minimize Brownsburg success. Cp didn’t lose a title The burg took that thing with 2 studs working on 4 titles, and if the rumor mill is correct they are adding another one

    real question

how many people who are all worked up would take CP state finals this year(9 medals, a champ, a runner up, 12 qualifiers) for Their programs next 5 years?

As a proud Calumet Alumni I would take that.

we will announce on the state recap show what we decided

Mike, I don’t believe this poster has been on the board since before this weekend.

Why is Hawkins asking to ban him this morning?  This poster has been vocal all year.

  5. Watching this Iowa vs Wisc dual and Rathjen takes injury time as he’s getting taken down.  Official gives the injury time, Rathjen continues after a short break and doesn’t give the 3 pt td.

Reminds me of one of my biggest issues watching wrestling this weekend.  Coaches allowing their kids to take a time out when the going gets tough.  Weak.  One of the countless things that separates wrestling from the stupid sports like basketball, no timeouts when it’s getting real, you have to deal with it.

Dissapointing the programs that are ok with taking a breather for that mental break when adversity has set in.

Ticketmaster has a stranglehold on venues, their fees are not set by event promoters. They do what they want unfortunately.

Organizations such as the IHSAA are beholden to the venue, but should be able to get around it.

Where is Eddie Vedder when you need him??

  7. If the ticketmaster site is accurate, it seems the demand for these tickets was way overestimated.

Visually it looks like 1/2 of the seats are still available.  It would have been much easier if the max number of tickets you could buy was higher.

One would think that digital tickets would be an option.

@ontherise219 First of all, you did a great job on the microphone!

I'm interested in your take/opinion on the 126 title match.  CP had the legs in and riding for a long time.  It appeared the bottom wrestler was frustrated not able to get away.  There was a point where the bottom wrestler was in a tripod and forcefully slammed forward tucking his head in and as a result slamming the top wrestlers face/head on to the mat.  After the second slam, the refs stopped the action.  It appeared to me intent to harm the top wrestler.  Not claiming to know all the rules, that is why I am asking your opinion.

I don’t think that was illegal, I would be curious to an official’s interpretation though.  He didn’t tuck his head and roll(which I believe is illegal).  The bottom wrestler did not have the top wrestler’s arms/hands tied up either.

Only watching video with limited sound(which certainly doesn’t tell the whole story), minus the hand gesture, I see about the same behavior by the winning wrestler in both this match and the 138 finals at New Castle.  Unsportsmanlike, probably… flagrant misconduct and DQ, no, not in either case.

But these "strategy replacements" don't fit that mentality since they often can beat the #3 and at least have a decent shot at beating the #2.

Matt, I don’t completely understand your position here, I’m not trying to put words in your mouth.  By what you said above it seems like the issue is with the way a bracket is seeded if a replacement wrestler can beat the 2 and 3 seeds.

  10. If there is a super dual on the day of team state that includes teams that just miss getting into team state, and Columbus East isn’t in team state, Columbus East will host this event.

I’ve thought this is a great idea, and could eventually lead to voting all 8 teams into team state in mid December instead of using a points based system from the previous years team.

Haven't been there for a while, but it always seemed something new would pop up that could have easily been fixed. The extra matches is something that is huge for the programs that attend. I know the CE kids have to get a minimum of 30 matches or they walk back to Columbus, so I can assume it was really frustrating.

Much better experience after the first day on the exhibition mats and we got them to scrap the paper signup system.

Didn’t quite get 30, but Hank the tank notched 23 matches over the 3 days.. 👏👏👏.

Olympians 7-3 overall with a win over Naperville who finished 4th.  Youngest team we have ever taken, 3 rising seniors and 11 of 22 incoming freshman.
