  1. What a fantastic human being! I wish I had the opportunity to be around him more other than just in passing at meets and events. One of the most genuine people I’ve had the opportunity to meet through wrestling.
  2. Coach Sean Schmaltz tomorrow, 5-6:30! Come get some freestyle action in before this weekends competitions.
  3. NCAA Qualifier and round of 12, Graham Rooks running practice tomorrow (Tuesday). Will be a full room like always! 5-6:30 pm.
  4. Back in action tonight (3/21) with Coach Warthan (UIndy) running the show!
  5. No practice this week due to our spring break. We will be back at it next week!
  6. Shout out to my friend Dustin Bentz, aka TripleB!! Dude had a real scare last year, lost about 100 lbs and then decided to step up to the plate and compete at Folk State this year. Still got it! Matter of fact, props to all the dudes in this pic and all the masters division wrestlers still willing to go out and throw down! . Dustin, Sam’s has the 5 gal pale of flex-all on sale… haha.
  7. This Tuesday 5-6:30 at Columbus East… Cooper Samuels running the technique. Come learn from one of southern Indiana’s finest technicians! Will be a full room, 55-60 last week, all sizes and experience levels.
  8. Kicks off this coming Tuesday, Feb 28th. 5-6:30 pm. Enter door 47 (furthest south doors) of Columbus East HS, wrestling room is downstairs on the left. USAW RTC is open to anyone SB and up with a USAW card. No Cost! We will have a weekly clinician to run some technique and drill, then finish with lots of live wrestling. Tuesday, Feb 28th- Cade Rooks- Indiana University 141 lber, 2x Indiana State Champ
  9. I will never understand the fear some parents have for their kids to compete vs kids their own age.
  10. Because $ coming your corp way for that number that’s how. Same thing here.
  11. Congrats to Heritage Hills and Coach Zollman on a conference title, taking down a very solid Tell City squad. Probably the FBWC influence…
  12. Exactly. A couple thoughts. This backup plan event will be a go no matter what. If it’s centrally located, I don’t see any issue with securing officials and their having the flexibility to go to Columbus East, Mount Vernon, Greenfield, or Roncalli, etc. Planning the event at Hobart and switching it to Floyd Central, that might be extreme and cause issues. The backup plan event would need to be flexible as well, maybe it’s 6 teams, maybe 10. Let’s say Columbus East isn’t chosen for team state next year and we host, we will make this event happen and adjust the structure according to the teams (round robin, pools, whatever). I think flexibility is key, not looking for a strict 8 teams, etc. Coach Cook mentioned he has a fall back plan for the Brickies, so teams can go that route also. This secondary meet just provides minimal schedule disruption for meets across the state and allows a decision to be made in December with a lot more data and proven success.
  13. I teach HS math, I use that line a lot, haha.
  14. A few thoughts… A statistician has never proven him/herself wrong. If the Ft Wayne SS teams had not dropped each of the last 2 years, 3a would have looked a lot different. Also remember, runner up Floyd Central 2 years ago was a late entry due to our being forced out. Having a good dual team and having a good group of individual wrestlers are very different thing. Our points system was a great way to get started and get this event rolling and established. It is now outdated and needs to become obsolete. Ive floated this idea to several 3a coaches, I believe it would work and be a vast improvement over using the prior years team to predict the future teams success. Teams that believe they are good enough to be selected in the top 8(say 15-20 teams), Should just schedule the event and be prepared to wrestle. The committee selects all 8 teams mid December based on current year results. The second group of teams would still compete on that Saturday, just at a different location. To make this work, we need a few teams who would be willing to host the alternate site. Columbus East would definitely host if not selected. The alternate site could be flexible with format, 6-10 teams, whatever is needed. Solves the issue of schedule disruption, choosing teams 10 months ahead of time based on kids who aren’t even on the team, and allows current year results to select the deserving teams.
  15. Sean Galligar, Columbus East, started wrestling in 9th grade, no experience whatsoever. Didn’t win a single match his freshman year at the JV level. Placed 3rd as a Senior 285 lber.

    Columbus East Invitational

  17. Looking for a place to get some more live mat time in??? Columbus East WC hosts a Friday Night Live session every other Friday from 6-7 pm. We get a warmup, then pair up or groups of 3 and wrestle live situations and live go's. We will have K-6th grade youth wrestlers with all ranges of ability. Anyone with a USAW card is welcome to attend. No charge! We will have various coaches there to help. The goal is to get youth more mat time in a low pressure, low cost setting. December dates.... 12/2 and 12/16. Columbus East HS- 230 South Marr Rd, Columbus IN. About 3-4 miles from I-65. Enter door 47(furthest south doors of the school), wrestling room is down the stairs, first door on the left. See you there! Coach Cooper
  18. Disappointing we won’t see Bouzakis compete vs this field at 133 this year.
  19. Looking for a 170 lber (usually +3 or +5 lbs) for some summer dual opportunities. You will have the chance to get 25+ matches in 3 separate events plus multiple practices and a 2 day camp. Cost $700 for the summer. Cost includes gear, all entry fees, transportation to Disney, camp fees, etc. Text 812-344-9817 or email cooperc@bcsc.k12.in.us for more info.
  20. Anyone from south or central Indiana driving to NCAA's? I'm looking to catch a ride home on Sunday if possible.
  21. There isn't a SINGLE wrestler in the state that wants to compete at a different time than their teammates. We have three wrestlers in session 1, one wrestler in session 2. You're telling me that our wrestler in session 2 wants to do a parade of champions and compete in a session by himself??? Crazy.
  22. Frustrating.... even more so that the information handed out at semi-state doesn't match information given last night. Plans have been made, hotel rooms reserved, then everything changes. I don't know a single coach that wants 2 sessions on Friday (there could be some, but I haven't heard that opinion expressed). IHSAA will have numerous "dignitaries" on the floor during the last session that have no business being involved in anything going on with the event.
