PreparetoWin reacted to DLuther in Whose your schools most accomplished wrestler
Just my opinion but Damon Hummel is hands down the best wrestler in Rochester history. If 215 was a thing he is easily a two time champ.
-
PreparetoWin reacted to BoonVegas in Whose your schools most accomplished wrestler
Damon Hummel was getting it done back when there was not a 215 weight class. If there had been, I think you can make the case that he would have been a 2x state champion.

Anyone remember the "Good ol days" when the biggest issue was people saving seats.

PreparetoWin reacted to Coach Peck in Stalling
I would say making stalling a one point penalty without it progressing to disqualification so it can be called when it is happening without the Official being concerned that he is going to put himself in position to DQ someone would help. In my opinion this would put the onus more on the wrestlers.

PreparetoWin reacted to XCard in Frosh-Soph State Qualifier Idea
428 total wrestlers at the South qualifier
540 total wrestlers at the North qualifier
Great numbers, but it would be nice to see these distributed a little more evenly. It seems like the Indy area prefers to come up to the North as opposed to heading South. I would imagine if you did add a Central qualifier on the same day as both the North and South, it would help shorten up the days at each location. Probably would add to the overall numbers too, as I would imagine some of the centrally located wrestlers would be more willing to wrestle without having to travel to different time zones.

PreparetoWin reacted to TripleB in Jennings county sectional
I'm with Kendrick.
It's not a shot at any team in the Jeff Sectional or anything, the disparity needs to be addressed.
Switzerland County should be at Richmond this weekend
Eastern back to Jeff
New Albany and Floyd should be back at Jeff
Corydon, Crawford Co and North Harrison to Southridge

PreparetoWin reacted to Mattyb in Seeding Shenanigans
First I’ve heard of that rule. I have no clue. I’m just a middle school coach.
Just pointing out other factors. But just think differences in strength of schedules plays in more then replacing kids. Just an uneducated opinion.
-
PreparetoWin got a reaction from Mattyb in Seeding Shenanigans
Just to play devils advocate, I have seen the coaches of the 3rd and 4th best kids in the bracket use criteria to bump the 2nd best kid up to the top. Is this legal? Yes Does it align with the intent of seeding and taking advantage of criteria?

PreparetoWin reacted to Chris Cooper in Seeding Shenanigans
Requiring all teams to use trackwrestling as a scorebook would solve many issues. Every result would be public for everyone to see. I don't understand why teams don't use it already. All your matches are online, you can look back in previous years anytime you want.
This would solve the issue of questionable records, asking about commons, etc.

I like our room at Columbus East. It’s newer, model year 2010, but it’s got a lot of miles on it

PreparetoWin reacted to Spike McPike in Supreme Sportsmanship and Beyond (The Bigger Picture)
Today at the Mooresville Holiday Classic, following the 190 lbs Championship Bout, the parents of the 2nd Place wrestler from Cascade HS, Braxton Lewis, approached the father of Collin Casad, the champion. After a brief introduction of themselves, Lewis's father told Eric Casad that they had learned of the passing of Eric's son Nick, a former Terre Haute South wrestler and older brother to Collin - in a car accident earlier this year. They offered their condolences, and then informed Eric Casad (standing next to me) that they too had lost a son in an accident. Eric Casad and the Lewis parents seemed to experience a profound bond as Lewis's parents congratulated Eric Casad on Collin's victory, and expressed that they were happy for fhe Casad family - and happy to go away with 2nd. The Lewis parents related, "It's bigger than this (the wrestling)". Braxton had left last year's Holiday Classic with a broken leg, they explained. The Lewises wished the Casads well and expressed that they hoped to see them again - and that they'd keep them in their thoughts and prayers.
This year both young men wrestled their hearts out while wearing the singlets of their older brothers who were not physically present at today's meet, but whose imprints of brotherly love surely remain in the hearts of these two young men today, of their families, and those who knew them.
This was the most moving expression of supreme sportsmanship - and beyond - that I've seen in my years attending wrestling events.
Very best wishes to both families!

PreparetoWin reacted to Y2CJ41 in 3A Team State Voting... solution!
*2nd and 3rd
And the second place team was a super late one due to New Haven dropping out.
3A has the depth that making it 12 teams total for the rest of time is a good thing. One or two kids can drastically affect a team's outlook on the year and predicting them based off of last year is a daunting task.
The 7th-10th place teams in the spring standings were 7 points from an automatic qualification.
Make it 12 for here on out as this class has proven to be very deep with competitive teams.

Columbus East having a week our young squad battling:

Columbus East over #16 Greenfield Central 40-23
Columbus East over #18 Franklin 40-19

Some great duals against some well coached teams.
