  1. testosterone surging; adrendaline has been dumped. what a rollercoaster ride! @TripleB
  2. Calvin “Hobbs & Solo” Cuppy is on my all-state all-names list
  3. In my estimation, a real rivalry has to stand the test of time. The more time that is elapsed, the better the rivalry. By that measuring stick, MD has two great rivals- Reitz and Perry Meridian. The Reitz rivalry is detailed in the previous post. The PM rivalry began in the late 1970's when Perry Meridian and Mater Dei competed in the same semi-state. Who could possibly forget Jeff Parkinson's 1981 controversial victory over PM's Steve Adams in the semi-state semifinal match? Legendary coaches Mike Goebel and Phil Strader had words with the referee and each other. Let's get it on! The state individual and dual meet series has been dotted by PM/MD dust-ups. Nearly every year, MD and PM boys bang heads at the Gainbridge in high-stakes matches. More than once, it has been for all the marbles. MD's coach, Greg Schaefer and PM's Middle School coach, Shaun Richardson went for the blue ribbon, under the lights. During the team state era, MD and PM delivered big-time for their fans. MD hung it on the Falcons their first three meetings at team state. The last IHSAA team sanctioned event was in 2012. The Perry juggernaut beat the 'Cats in the semi final and ultimately won the gold. MD fans had grown accustomed to winning this event. Losing to their arch-rival was a bitter pill to swallow. Three years later, the Wildcats returned the favor, beating PM for the IHSWCA title in 2015. It was a pinnacle achievement for MD, as this edition of the Wildcats have never defeated the Falcons at a grade school, middle school or high school level. For my money, there is nothing much more satisifying than beating PM and nothing much painful than losing to them.
  4. All-time, MD is 45-2 against Castle. The two losses the Knights hung on the 'Cats occurred in 2009 and 2010. They particularly hurt, because MD beat Castle in the regular season, but was handed the pain during the team regional. MD fans are mostly respectful toward Castle wrestling. Bob Harmon runs a good program and is old school. Castle has a solid fan following and does an excellent job of hosting the SIAC and Regional meets. The Reitz/MD rivalry is now 70 years old. An in-person barnburner between the two in a packed gymnasium is something to behold. Mater Dei has lost one dual meet in its home gym since 1976. The loss was to Reitz in 2010. A few outliers aside, the Reitz/MD is a healthy and fun rivalry. Many community members have family and friends that attend or support the opposing school. If you like hateful rivalries, there have been a few in Evansville. In the 90's, Evansville Central and MD had top-five ranked teams. The wrestlers, fans and coaches had equal contempt for their counterparts. If you ever meet any of the combatants, they will tell you stories that will curl your hair. Recently, Reitz and Castle certainly had an INTENSE rivalry. I'll leave this one to Panther and Knight fans to elaborate.
  5. big cat, i agree with your assessment, however, i do not think it is much of a prize for PM being on CP's side of the bracket
  6. Here's a consolation prize: On November 24, 1979, MD and Union County wrestled a dual meet in New Albany, Indiana. At the end of the meet, both teams claimed victory and recorded it as such. Future State Champ, Tim Boots, was the lynch pin for the controversy.
  7. Sorry to let you down, 1proud; i don't know the answer. I do know that Brock was a five-time champ. Heckuva wrestler and an even better kid.
  8. Cricket- How did the MD vs MEM match go down? Schaefer wear a tie? Mattingly been using conditioner?
  9. If true, this is another big loss for Central. The Kemper family has brought a ton of value to that program.
  10. I'm with the rat. 285 has no semblance to other Indiana high school weight classes. It's an apples and anvils comparison. Malaprop intended.
  11. Glad to see Brownsburg is not ducking today. Late call from the coaches was correct.
  12. i hate that for Khajawa. He is dynamic and exciting.
  13. This is fun! reminds me of the good ole days when the board was not populated by sophisticates. We need more insane ramblings from the likes of Caliboy, BlueBolt and Wrestleman.
  14. T Trip- You did your normal excellent job; well-done! The bad news is that other, would-be posters are too intimidated to do a write-up on their semi-state... Scared. Just like their wrestlers...
  15. An otherwise great match was marred by a number of things. Hornung dominated the first period, followed by a long injury timeout by Nelson. Apparently, the injury was not extensive, as Nelson moved like a scalded cat in the second. Hornung was fighting off a takedown attempt, the referee blew the whistle, Hornung relaxed and the ref awarded Nelson the TD. Curious sequence. It appeared the Nelson was jawing at Memorial's coaches when he got hit with the misconduct. He also talked to the ref a lot. These two flat went after it. Hornung is a very tough freshman. KT Nelson was arguably the most electric athlete in the building. If he can keep his emotions under control, he can make a run.
  16. Purdy got to his offense twice, but could not score. Sollars scored two clean takedowns and dominated on top. Sollars established daylight, between the two.
  17. I look for Amento to win at 132. He and Fortune are fun to watch. 145 is wide open. Team Kemper will re-tool and win the re-match. Dad and brother both look like they could go six right now. Happe is my favorite at 182. He has to get through Martin first. Look out! Thanks to "the powers that be" for restoring the Castle Regional to Castle. Our friends from Paradise are fantastic hosts. BlueBolt, the Man could only keep you down for so long. I would be remiss if i did not hype their concessions. Potatoes as big as your head.
  18. i thought it was interesting that Sollars went for swipes. Two of three times, Purdy turned them into reversal points. Sollars tried to turn him at the end of the match. Would not be surprised to see some haymakers thrown.
