  1. When the Honky Tonk man was enjoying his run as the "Greatest Inter-Continental" champion ever, his opponent for Summer Slam was injured. Honky was feeling good. He took the microphone and implored the powers that be to "Send out anyone, I'll wrestle anybody." The Ultimate Warrior's music began, the UW stormed out, hit Honky with three clothes lines and pinned him in under 15 seconds. Future governor, Jesse "The Body" Ventura commented: "Honky didn't even have time to get his Elvis outfit off." Later on, Honky tried to get the verdict overturned claiming, "I said i'd wrestle anyone. I didn't say nothing about wrestling no warrior."
  2. i believe this is a not-so-veiled swipe. bigmak used to interpret these type of posts...big, do you still do that?
  3. no way! I was there. that busco match was wild. while I know little about their program, I will guarantee you those kids and fans will be talking about that match 25 years from now.
  4. mater dei does this. for the wrestling team, class is optional. md is siphoning the best wrestlers from the city the size of ft wayne to make this happen. start paying attention.
  5. jchas- you started this thread with: "My 2 cents. You can't compare a public school to a private school. MD may only have the enrolment of a 2A school. But they get a lot of the best wrestlers from a city the size of Ft. Wayne." You, not ahawkeye, not anyone else, mentioned MD, by name. no generalities, but MD specifically. Additionally, you are factually incorrect in your assertions about MD. Retract your statements or stand by them. Either way, MAN UP and stop saying "I didn't make this about Mater Dei."
  6. I ignored mark twain's good advice. "You should never argue with a fool, an onlooker may not be able to tell the difference." you should go on a football message board to espouse your musings...
  7. When you say "they get the best wrestlers from a city the size of Fort Wayne", it is implied md is "recruiting" wrestlers. Jchas, md's talent is home grown. Y2 gives a fair accounting of the whys and hows.
  8. Congratulations, Franklin! As a Mater Dei fan, it was a painful loss. However, your fans and kids represented your school and community in an exemplary fashion. On top of that, I think Franklin had the toughest road to the final. I would love to find fault and minimize your win; I can't seem to find anything. You earned it.
  9. I am lined up with the Cathedral coaches. For a meet of this caliber, towel tossing is ridiculous. I saw a number of matches that were decided by a poor toss. It was a blemish on an otherwise-great event!
  10. jchas I cannot speak for other Catholic schools in Indiana, but I am aware of the situation at Mater Dei. Mater Dei has seven elementary schools which feed the high school. The other Catholic school in Evansville, Memorial, is located on the east side of town. Memorial has a situation similar to Mater Dei. Here are the facts about Mater Dei’s line-up: 106, Will Egli: Began wrestling in Kindergarten for St. Philip. Three year member of the Mater Dei Junior Wildcats. His mother is a Mater Dei graduate. 113, Kyle Luigs: Began wrestling in Kindergarten for St. Wendel. Three year member of the Mater Dei Junior Wildcats. His dad and grandfather were Mater Dei wrestlers and graduates. 120, Alex Johnson: Began wrestling in Kindergarten for Westside Catholic. Three year member of the Mater Dei Junior Wildcats. 126, Nick Lee: Began wrestling in Kindergarten for Corpus Christi. One year member of the Mater Dei Junior Wildcats. 132, Blake Jourdan: Began wrestling in Kindergarten for Holy Redeemer. Three year member of the Mater Dei Junior Wildcats. 138, Wyatt Seng: Began wrestling in Kindergarten for St. Philip. Three year member of the Mater Dei Junior Wildcats. Mother and father are Mater Dei graduates; his dad was also a wrestler for MD. 145, Josh Pierre: Began wrestling in Kindergarten for Westside Catholic. Three year member of the Mater Dei Junior Wildcats. Mother and father are Mater Dei graduates. 152, Logan Weinzapfel: Began wrestling in Kindergarten for Corpus Christi. Three year member of the Mater Dei Junior Wildcats. Mother and father are Mater Dei graduates. Father was a State Qualifier. 160, Ashton Forzley: Began wrestling for Resurrection in the fourth grade when his family moved to Evansville. Three year member of the Mater Dei Junior Wildcats. Mother was a Mater Dei graduate. 170, Bennet Kempf: Wrestled for Westside Catholic from Kindergarten to fourth grade. Began wrestling again in high school. The first-year starter’s dad is a Mater Dei graduate. 182, Sam Bassemier: Began wrestling in Kindergarten for St. Philip. Three year member of the Mater Dei Junior Wildcats. His dad is a Mater Dei graduate and State Qualifier. 195, Seth Orth: Began wrestling in Kindergarten for Holy Redeemer. Three year member of the Mater Dei Junior Wildcats. 220, Adrian Butler: Transferred to Mater Dei from Harrison High School after his freshman year. Wrestled junior varsity for Mater Dei his sophomore year and became a starter this year. With a 10-6 record, Adrian is likely the least-experienced of any of the starters—and one of the Red and Gold’s favorite wrestlers. 285, Levi Massey: Wrestled from Kindergarten until fourth grade for Westside Catholic. Started wrestling again as a junior. Became a starter this year. Levi’s grandfather, Fred Happe, was a State Champion for Mater Dei in 1964. In Evansville, as far as “getting the best wrestlers”, the situation is the reverse of what you describe. Typically, many Catholic kids in Evansville attend Catholic school until the 8th-grade, then transfer to a public High School. They take their wrestling training with them. In any given year, look on the rosters of the Evansville public schools and you will find wrestlers that grew up in the Mater Dei and Memorial feeder programs. This year is no exception. As far as recruiting goes, if you have $7500 (annual tuition) and are willing to take your kid to school and pick him up, you also can be recruited to Mater Dei. BTW- Mater Dei is a small 2A school with an enrollment of about 500.
  11. If you want to improve Indiana wrestling overnight, have a pre-season referees meeting and have them get aggressive on stalling calls. Anyone who has wrestled at Disney will tell you this is what happens. It immediately impacts matches. Indiana will be much better as a result.
  12. i heard that they opened the hospitality room early. all of that good food took the fight out of coaches. you haven't lived until you have sampled frank schaefer's home-made buffalo bratwursts. he raises the buffalo, butchers 'em on site, turns 'em into sausages. i know frank did not wrestle in high school, but the smart money says he could go six minutes.
  13. Your gif is disturbing but compelling. I am repulsed but can't seem to look away.
  14. If they ask you to pick up fredo and moe green at the airport, DON'T GO!
  15. Have those rigged, homer, stacked, screw-em brackets been released yet? It's the season....
  16. Does this mean that you know and refuse to betray omertà?
  17. Can someone lift the cloud of mystery? Is it seeded to 8th?
  18. 91- I think you may be pretty close. The problem that perry, and a number of other schools have, is the first round draw. The wrong draw and you are competing for fifth. I think the only school immune to a first round knockout is penn. Beyond that, it's all about match-ups. What a tournament! Congratulations to the ihswca for sponsoring a superior tournament.
  19. This was not in the newspaper. What happened?

  21. Speaking of...I thought the duals were seeded last night at jeffersonville?
  22. You never did state your credentials. When you claim to "know" things, knowledge, experience, education, etcetera tend to lend credence to your statements. It's called "credibility." Furthermore, if you read the box scores, you would learn that the schools I mentioned earlier have full line-ups, not forfeits. That was the point. I have seen a number of those schools wrestle. Win or lose, I have generally been impressed by the conditioning and effort put forth by their athletes. I see you claim to be affiliated with Purdue. I assume you are a fan, not a student or graduate. Purdue is a top-flight institution. I would be very disappointed to learn that my tax dollars support a college that turns out students who cannot support a coherent argument, structure a sentence, or, for that matter, have an understanding of basic grammar. Your friend, Box Score Champion
  23. You missed the sarcasm. There is no such thing as a sure thing vis a vis high school athletes. "You know" there are kids that have the talent. How do you "know"? What is your track record? What are your credentials? Do you recruit for a major college program? Your "proof" is the number of open spots on local teams with traditionally strong programs. I follow the box scores in the newspaper. I don't recall seeing any forfeits on the rosters of reitz, mater dei, harrison, central, memorial, castle, north, boonville, gibson southern, mt. vernon, heritage hills, princeton, southridge or jasper, to name a few. Sorry if this flies in the face of your Natural Order of things. Where can I learn more about the Natural Order? I have never heard of it. Google was no help.
